You're the man, Subie. I'm new to wet shaving and DE razors (waiting on my Henson AL13 to arrive!) so I'm not quite into the hacking and shimming yet, BUT I keep coming back to each of your videos because of your energy and passion. The positivity just radiates through the screen and gets me in a good mood. Keep doing your thing!

Well I am both honored and thrilled that a new wetshaver is enjoying the content!! My fear is that I don't cater to those coming into the craft enough. I am SOO happy to hear that you are enjoying watching the shaves!! Can I just say thank you for the comment, the compliment, and the support!! The AL13 is a great place to start if you ask me!! You'll have plenty to enjoy with it!! Man. You're getting a shout out!! ❤️🔥❤️🔥👍👍

@@SubieShaves Absolutely, man. I discovered you because of your Henson video! Your content is a little more advanced, but at least for me personally I keep returning because of YOU. Speaking of Henson, I got a newsletter from them yesterday: "Share Your Shave" and they featured a picture of you holding up the AL13 razor, did you catch that?! I thought that was pretty cool.

@NYC Wet Shaving I'm trying! You all make it look so easy! I'm using the Leaf right now for my head and am absolutely destroying my head after each shave. I tried just about every blade combination possible - I thought it was the blades that came with the Leaf so I ordered some Astra Premium blades and it only helped a little bit. I probably just have really bad technique, I don't know ... I'm just going to stick with it and keep trying to improve.

I went down the Modern 1/2 DE Razors all year last year and had the chance to own most of them (almost all). The R50 is one I bought on impulse - it is beautiful (in my eye) but I struggled with it for quite a while. Hopefully my thoughts make sense. 🥊🥊

It's more of a personal thing. I love them both - but both are VERY different. I can say this, the Thorn has never beat me up (and doesn't have an extra item for loading) like the focus did - but the focus is a beautiful stainless, that PIVOTS, and is a smooth shaver. If you're on a budget, obviously the THORN is much cheaper, and doesn't require the loading plate, but if you want a heftier, stainless, efficient razor - the r50 won't let you down
@enriquerubio32813 жыл бұрын
@@SubieShaves Thank you very much friend for the explanation, it has been very clear to me. I will buy the focus dynamic, it will be cheaper for me, I am from Spain and the Thorn comes from the USA and with customs it is more expensive. Again, thank you very much friend for your time.

I didn’t know lead made more than one razor? The triple blade leaf (don’t know the name) wasn’t for me. But I do like the look and function of that single edge razor thorn. It’s got a vintage look and an innovative door. Like that’s some vintage Gillette innovating. If you told me it was a vintage Gillette or Schick I would’ve totally believed you. It’s definitely a Subie SE style. I’m not as big on heavy razors as I used to be. Used to associate quality with weight and I’ve realized I get better shaves with razors in the 60-70g weight because I have more pressure control IMO. Sorry, I’m all over the place but I comment as I’m watching. OK, third edit… to all razor companies don’t use Zemak (pot metal) for your razors that have moving parts. Plated brass is cheaper than stainless steel and with a good brushed nickel plating you can’t go wrong. I’ve had the head screw of my DE89 shear completely off the first time I dropped it. I understand why companies use zamek with a new razor designs, however (I’m not into SE razors) but if that razor on the left was plated brass I would totally buy it. I love the ingenuity of that twisting cap design and the magnificent is pure genius for loading. One suggestion is maybe cover the back end of the plate for aesthetics. This is just my preference if I was to design it. But honestly I don’t own a SE razor and if I was to buy one this would be it… knowing myself I’ll have their whole line in my possession next week Lol. That pivoting top head in loading is genius coupled with the bottom TTO and magnet. 3rd edit: I do like the covered head design on the focus. However, I think they could utilize the notches stamped into the de blades to give a more consistent shave via loading. I like the head design so far… again I’m halfway through the video and commenting as I watch
@SubieShaves3 жыл бұрын
They do have one - that operates exactly like a safety razor. This one has a tiny head, and it comes in two Aggressiveness levels. I prefer the Thorn which is their more efficient of the two. It is am absolute heavy weight in my shave Den - to the point I get perfect shaves with it consistently!! That's why I like doing the battles, to see if the other 1/2 DE razors stack up against it 😆😆 the copper finish also really pops and gives it a vintage vibe. Thanks for being here for this!!

@@SubieShaves I don’t know how many blades you’ve tried so far but if you like Perma-Sharps… you gotta try Wizamet Super Iridium’s! They are sharper and smoother IMO. They are basically a better version of the POLSILVER which were discontinued. I can send you a 10 pack free, if you want to try them lmk?! Also, they last longer for me PS fall off at 2-3 shaves and Wizamet’s I got 5-7 shaves. Keep in mind I won’t shave with a blade unless it’s %100 sharp enough. For example the Derby blades you use I chuck em after 1 shave and I don’t use German blades Merkur/Wilkinson… which is strange because German/Japanese craftsmanship (their 316L steel is 2nd to none!) is the best in the world IMO. But blades are very personal and subjective and always will be. But that’s what’s so great about this shaving hobby. Finding a new blade that just hits or exceeds all your expectations

For me and everyone I talked to on forums etc..the focus razors are gimmicky, over engineered and not in a positive way and bad at pricing all except the focus shavette which has good quality price and reputation. Maybe head shaving gives it a leg up?🤷🏽♂️
@SubieShaves3 жыл бұрын
I thought by now you'd have realized that forums are a great place to find experiences, but not one that always will fit you. The Muhle R41 is very much the same way - often either loved or hated - and I think this fits in the same category. I also had trouble with it - but after learning it - I can say that it is one of my all time favorite shavers. The R50 is also one of the only razors my wife likes to grab from time to time other than the M|J and Leaf. I look at all Pivoting razors as a love hate thing - some guys hate them, others like myself, can't get enough of them. The R48 Evo that just came out by Focus also reminds me a ton of what you like - TONS of bite, ergonomic, and easy to use. Literally used it for a week straight for my body shaves when I got it haha I don't love the aluminum feel...but for something that shaves that good I deal with it haha We are all fickle creatures, us wetshavers, and some of us give up on a thing rather than learn it if it is giving us too much grief - I myself have done that too many times to count. The Focus is one I'm glad I didn't give up on, and one that stays in my top 5 rotation.

@@SubieShaves i agree but my view is if you have to make it work and/or have to fiddle with it to make it work then its not worth it especially for the price. Its one thing to fiddle with a razor that already works well to make it even better than have to hack a razor that is engineered wrong and have to go out your way to make it work. That just screams poor quality to me. For me personally pivoting heads are a gimmick i don't find that they do anything better and can form bad technique. Its not to say that im oppossed to them just dont see the point or need like the cartridge gel strip or other gimmicks. The r41 is a different case as at least most shavers respect it and the issue is not with the build or quality but misinformation and unwarranted fear of efficiency and over reliance on mild and middle aggressive razors, which most likey has a negative outcome in people's shaves (especially beginners). What most say about the focus is its functionality which as you admit is falsely advertised which already is a red flag for me, and just its not a good value for what it offers. In the end you like what you like as shaving is a personal thing and thats ok.
