The Atlantic Forest is home to 891 bird species, which account for about 45% of all species found in Brazil. Approximately one-fourth of the bird species-213 in absolute numbers, or 24% of the total-are endemic to the Atlantic Forest.
The logistics for birding in São Paulo and Rio are the easiest in Brazil. The roads are very good, the accommodations are comfortable and close to the birding hotspots, the food is fantastic, the trails are accessible and safe, the weather is the best in the country.
