Microphone Monday: SE Electronics V7 MK - snare top
.
.
.
Before we get into it, let’s talk about what the SE Electronics V7 MK is.
According to sE Electronics, the V7 MK has the same DMC7 X capsule as the V7 X, “The DMC7 X dynamic element in the V7 MK has been custom-developed for a crisp, open sound that perfectly captures your voice in the most natural way you've ever heard on stage - and its sophisticated super-cardioid capsule design helps isolate your voice from other instruments, ensuring vast amounts of gain before feedback. Proven Neodymium magnets, tight production tolerances & high-end workmanship ensure excellent sensitivity, superior sound quality, and superb consistency.”
The V7 MK is a super-cardioid microphone, which means it has a much tighter pick-up angle than a cardioid.
Additionally, a super-cardioid mic provides better sound isolation from room noise and nearby instruments while focusing on a consistent sound source. Some say that it does this better than a cardioid mic.
A super-cardioid mic tends to be more sensitive to sound sources directly behind it, causing you to experiment with the placement of the microphone and find that sweet spot to keep the hi-hat bleed minimal.
For this reason, I tend to keep my hi-hat height high; this gives me room to find the right spot for my snare-top microphone.
The one thing I love about the V7 MK is its ability to capture what’s in front of it. Its EQ is very transparent, so you better make sure your source sounds good because if it doesn't, you’ll know.
What did you guys think? What microphones do you use for your snare drum top? What microphone positioning do you like for your snare drum? I would love to hear your thoughts in the comments.
Okay. Byeeeee. 🥁🤓❤️✌🏻
