My experience with my sea-feather is a trip down the east coast in '22 a circumnavigation of the UK in 23 including the Jester Baltimore challenge and now the Azores and back in 24. I have previous experience of a Navik which was similarly effective but not as well built as the Sea-feather. I have not had your experience with the blade mine is also dry stored and I lever it up out of the water when not in use. It also has international woodskin varnish on it which for me is the best no signs of flaking. But wood is a living thing and all pieces are different. My larger vane is a bit of 3/16 ply. Just ordinary grade I used the normal vane as a template and doubled the area. I made it give more power to the vane in light conditions particularly downwind. It has decreased the apparent wind speed that the unit works well in. And maybe keeps it working when I've not managed to clean and oil the unit as well as I should.

Thanks, all interesting! I subsequently thinned the blade where it pivots in the housing, then sanded the whole blade and applied several coats of osmo oil. No problems at all since, now really easy to release and lift out of the water. Very tempted to try the larger air vane idea next year as a comparison, so thanks for sharing that.

Very interesting. This is our experience with our SF, caveat being that we've not used it either offshore or in really heavy conditions. kzbin.info/www/bejne/oZ-XiXyJpJh6rs0 Couple of questions if you don't mind - Had you used it much prior to Azores Jester? Also could you give a bit more background to the larger air vane, why you've trialled it, what are and when do you see the benefits? Thanks!
