I just stumbled upon this episode and discovered that the female guest-star in this one is Lynn Bernay. She was the one spotted in the Rock-a-beatin boogie number from Rock around the clock which was the show-stopper featuring lead pair, Lisa Gaye and Earl Barton. Lynn was also seen dancing to Bill Haley's 'Hot Dog Buddy, Buddy' from the movie Don't knock the rock. Her other credit, to my knowledge, was as Lisa Gaye's best friend and room-mate in the 1962 suspense drama "Night of evil".

Took a girl friend diving once. Told her a few dos and don'ts and wouldn't you know it she didn't listen. When I was just going for a certificate to be qualified to dive we had to do something similar to what they were doing. we did it in the deep end of an Olympic pool. We would shut the air off,wrap the weight belt and mask around it and take it down and lay it on the bottom and go back up. Jump back in ,swim down and put the equipment back on and clear your mask. Things must have improved over the years as we had a gauge attached to the tank that you could look at and see how much air you had left.

The first generation Aqua-Lung didn't have any ports, so there was no way to connect an SPG. When the two-stage, single-hose regulator was introduced, Aqua-Lung/US Divers redesigned theirs to have extra ports, but sales still declined to the point that eventually Aqua-Lung/US Divers came out with their own single-hose regulators. I like the double-hose design for the placement of the exhaust (no bubbles in your face), but that's about the only advantage.

And so we’re we. Equipment is largely the same, but very different at the same time. No one is making the double hose regulator these days, though I still have one in a trunk somewhere. Two stage single hose regulators with stage 1 mounted on the tank, and stage two at the mouth piece came into being about the time I started diving. Inflatable flotation vests were common for managing buoyancy and for emergency use. They are no longer seen, having been replaced by a buoyancy control(BC) vest, now inflatable from the tank. Depth gauge, watch and dive tables, have given way to the octopus setups with a spare second mouth. piece regulator, and dive computers, more technical, with increased safety are now the norm. the (J) valve in the episode for release of an emergency supply of air was the trick set up back then, though is certainly frowned up now. usage of the k valve has returned to favor. In spite of the changes, diving was diving, and was absolutely great in the 60’s and 70’s, and still is today. Any old timers, other than me remember Ron Merker from the Newport Beach Dive Shop, CA.? He was kind of a legend when he was my first dive instructor(mid 60’s). Those were the days, thanks Kylie!
@hannahtriz7 жыл бұрын
Back then did divers not do safety stops?
@seikibrian86415 жыл бұрын
Not usually; especially not on short, shallow dives. For one thing, before BCDs came along you put on the right amount of weight for a particular depth and spent most of your time there. Once you started your ascent and your wet suit expanded it was hard to stop at an intermediate depth; without a guide line to grab onto, once you started toward the surface it took a lot of finning to keep from popping to the surface like a cork.
@Strazman4 жыл бұрын
So I know this is set in the late 50s / early 60s, and that the equipment was very different back then. But did they really not have any sort of air meter or any way of knowing how full their tanks were back then while underwater, unlike today with our octopus setups? Seems extremely dangerous.
