As a sea kayaker from New Zealand and a visiter to Northumbeland twice. I love your video. We visited the Farne Islands and I remember thinking how magical it would be to sea kayak there. Thank you!

Excellent video and story, thank you. An added bonus was having met you on the MV Cuma trip in 2018(?) to St Kilda. I'm glad you are still paddling, and going solo too. Cheers, Scott.

Another great video. Not a paddle I'd be comfortable doing on my own at my level of experience. I've not paddled up on the Northumbrian coastline since 2019. I'm really missing my annual fortnight in Beadnell. Fingers crossed I can book for next June.

Thank you so much, I'm glad you enjoy the videos. Enjoy your kayak, my advice would be to find a local club or group, it is the best way to learn and gain confidence. It's a great way to explore and see nature 👍

Fantastic images. Thanks for the info on tides and planning, has helped with understanding it more. Did you print off the map or make it yourself? What is the name of the black and white tall birds that look like penguins? We are so privalidged to live in such a wonderful.part of the world and well done on your solo trip.
@SeaKayakingNorthumberland3 жыл бұрын
I always make a little map like this for each trip with tide, wind & swell information on using the OS map, then print & laminate. Those birds are Guillemots, and there are about 50k of them in peak season. Thank you very much, we are very lucky indeed.

@@SeaKayakingNorthumberland Wow, that's an incredible number!! I'm going to have a try at making a map like that too. Really useful and helpful. I would love to get out over there at some point. Thanks

Absolutely loved watching this hun! As a photographer myself, I've dreamt of trying not only to paddle board, but to also get a kayak & go out with my camera in a drybag of course! I am a total novice so any advice on type of kayak I'd need ( one that hopefully, doesn't capsize). X
@SeaKayakingNorthumberland3 жыл бұрын
Thank you very much. The best advice I can give is to join a club, they will not only have different craft available for you to try and see what you like best but they should also offer some instruction to make sure you know what you are doing. As for camera in a drybag, I've gone down this route but found that a dry box attached to the deck works better, you can quickly snap the box open and have the camera in hand in seconds whereas with a dry bag its a faff having to undo the clips and unroll it. Plus I trust the waterproofing on a box more than a bag.

@@SeaKayakingNorthumberland I'm currently shopping for a long zoom camera to take paddling. I was under the assumption I should look for something "splash proof" so was looking at a Lumix FZ300 600 mm point and shoot. I'm nervous to take my DSLR out on the water. Do you ever have moisture problems with your 90D?
@SeaKayakingNorthumberland3 жыл бұрын
@@pru5730 So in my experience I've found Canon DSLR'S to be pretty bomb proof, I've taken the 3 I've owned all over the world, they've been battered, frozen, blasted by rain, wind and dust and I've never had one fail on me yet. The 90D is weather resistant and I've never had any issues taking it out kayaking with me. Of course I am very careful with it, it lives in a drybox on my deck and I only take it out on relatively calm days but I'm constantly handling it with wet hands and it's never put a foot wrong yet. I do give it a good wipe down and clean when I come off the water just to be on the safe side.
