It is freaking AWESOME to see the fingerprints of Pace and other partners all over this update. This has been a LONG time coming, and Rare absolutely did it right by calling in the insight of their partners and of course the living breathing beta testing community that is the Insiders Program. Even more exciting than the update itself is the fact that Rare made this a full community effort to improve their game in a fundamental way. To me, it means Sea of Theives just added years to its life, and increases my hope that future Rare games will be as fantastic.

You only dive if you choose to invade from the war map. If you don’t vote on the war map you play as normal until invaded. You only change servers if you invade or if you sink.

From my experience with playing SOT and what they have done with the new season’s. Rare has definitely gave people the better option of pvp in this new season. I believe it will draw in new player’s to the game and they won’t get mixed up with the more “out for blood” kind of pirates they might be afraid of. So I think they did a great job of keeping the gameplay original as they intended with giving the “OG”’s a realm of their own.😎👍

@@SotEnjoyer113 Bringing Arena back would not be better. Sure, it's a nice closed environment for TDM, but it got stale. The stakes were nonexistent, and once you got your commendations, there was nothing to work for. Besides, there was no SBMM in Arena, and spawn camping brain dead children isn't exactly fun. This merges the on-demand combat of Arena with the richness of the Adventure sandbox. Also, there were technical issues to keeping Arena working, which in addition to its low playerbase, was the reason it got scrapped to begin with.

Having been apart of Pace's community for a few years now I've seen the trials and tribulations faced whenever it comes to the relationship Pace has with this game lol. He has put more than enough time in and covered every square inch of this game and played it every way possible probably twice. Has at least 100 hours into the game. Anyway, this update is super exciting in every way possible. I have always loved SOT but, always felt like it was missing one little piece to keep me fully interested in the game. This may be it. The PVP system looks incredible. Everything looks well thought out even down to the smallest details. For example I love how if you go out of bounds in a fight, your hour glass will blow up causing you to sink, rather than giving you a countdown timer and blackscreening you or something if you don't make it back in in time. I feel like the core element of the PVP system has a lot of small things implemented that make it make sense to play overall. So many AWESOME in game incentives to PVP. Maybe the coolest things I've seen in the game so far. So much so I think people that normally don't do this, will come out of their comfort zone to at least try because it actually seems worth it in every way. I hope this goes as intended for the Devs and the creators that worked with them to make this happen. You can tell and hear that Pace himself had a good hand in this I'm sure as a lot of these things I've heard him talking about for years. All in all I'm really happy for him and everyone and here's to some awesome future SOT content for everyone.

tactics: find an ally , propose an alliance and sail with two crews - helping each other. this will be an interesting experience - to assemble a server of passive crews and wait for the invasion) PvE crews will be able to unite in alliances, look for treasures and serve attacks

Im curious, because the devs said this new PvP mechanic is implemented inside the public adventure servers. Both ships get a designated area to fight in, so they cant leave the battle untill someone is sunk. But since this is all playing out in a public server, what happens when a third-party ship shows up? The third-party is not limited to the fighting area and can dip out when they have low supplies and come back to fight another round.

Updates look awesome I almost want to get a new account just to experience leveling up in this game with a functional PvP system Before it used to be go PvE for a few hours and nothing will happen, or go server hop forever and finding nothing worth the time. Now the action is getting delivered to you. And in a way that is balanced. You don't have to worry about soloing and a crew of 4 randomly spawning in to ruin you. This is a 100X better version of arena

Man Pace when you brought up ppl who weren't trying to win in Arena it reminded me that was my least favorite thing about Arena. Someone would be running chests uncontested and the lobby is teaming your boat. Strimmers always thought they had it bad... everyone that played Arena has been teamed on and griefed and malding bc they're clearly not trying to win only keep YOU from winning

Two questions I still have: how long after you successfully defend yourself do you have to be safe before another invasion, if there is a safe time at all? Will players be able to cheese solo sloop battles by bringing in a crewmate mid-fight?

If a solo slooper is in a fight and a friend spawns in they have to wait on the ferry of the damned till the battle has concluded. I'm not sure about a safe timer after a fight tho.

I think if youre playing defense mode there is some sort of internal timer that protects you from invasions, but if you want to invade you can just go again instantly (im not 100% sure here but I believe this is correct)

Separation of crews between servers after the fight is a great idea. I can see that the verbal abuse levels will increase with that little window and then there will be calm haha. It's gonna be funny. Having these new options and features is exactly what this game has been needing. They've done a really good job of having pvp content that doesn't effect how you want to play the game negatively overall. And I think you're right Pace, it will decrease the likelihood that ships will stay on servers in general (which I always thought could be a reason for empty servers). Question though: if you're a champion ship, does that marker mark you on the normal server map so a player ship is almost like a world event to go over to and attempting to sink? I was just a bit confused about that part. Great video Pace!

potentially, but if you're running it means you're not prepared to fight, and if you matchmake you will then be forced to fight someone who is ready to fight and have no option to run. This should eliminate the ability for people to do it as a means to keep their loot, but it doesn't prevent someone from doing it out of spite just so the crew in chase can't have their loot

This is how it works. You won’t know you are being invaded until the ship joins the invader joins the server.

It needs to have a warning because when other ships roll up you can see them from much farther than where these submerged ships first appear. It makes sense to have to watch the horizon but idk how fair that is when ships literally teleport to fight you

Can anyone answer this, if someone is in a alliance, can they not just vote to represent the faction and then 2 or 3 v 1 when you actually invade them. So instead of fighting one ship it becomes a unfair fight and they sunk you immediately when you invade. How do they prevent this?

It's all based on your ship tuckers don't value their ships very much but if you want to be in the PVP program you need to highly value your ship. The second your ship sinks all your crewmates disappear from the server

Any of the new curses are at level 100 faction you also need to be max level in reapers or a pirate legend

@@magicpyroninja ^this. there is some confusion, but bottom-line is Pirate Legend gives you access to the new locations, OR Reaper 75 gives you access to just the Reaper new location, AND on top of this requirement you have to hit level 100 with the appropriate new PvP faction in order to access the new locations and get your curse. A couple of people in game I came across were grinding Reapers thinking once they hit 75 they'll get the curse. That isn't the case, just gives access to the new location. Both of which were already Pirate Legend so it was pointless to grind it up since they'll have access the moment they hit level 100 with the new faction(s).

I think it would be somewhat balanced (and disruptive of any weapon meta) if each ship had a finite stock of choosable weapons. Let's say the sloop gets one of each, solo sloopers can choose whatever they want, duos will have to cooperate. Idk how it could work for brig, but a galleon can have 2 of each weapon available.

The circles are really big. If you're bad enough that getting boarded and camped while sailing multiple quadrants is easy enough that people choose that rather than just using the supps to sink you that sounds like a you problem. Besides with sbmm I doubt any crews who would be able to camp like that would face people bad enough to let it happen.
