Good video!!! Maybe you already figured it out, but when using helicopters as scouts is better to have them on Emcon and only activate their radars from time to time to check enemies' positions. Otherwise it happens what occurred in your gameplay, where two of your helos were destroyed. Another advice: modern naval warfare is like using a submarine, the stealthier you are, the better. You don't want to reveal your ships' positions emiting radar. So you can move your helicopters far away from your ships, wich are on Emcon (your ships), never positioning your air scouts right in front, it's better if they are in front but more to a side, then use their radar to reveal the enemy ships. If you see an enemy helicopter, and you can't shut it down because it's just outside your SAMs, try positioning one of your helicopters on Emcon right between you and the enemy ships, so it can visually identify anti-ship missiles coming your way.

Heya. Thanks a lot for your feedback and suggestions! :) I know about EMCON and I'm very aware of it. If you see my previous video to this one, you'll see that I act exactly as you are suggesting in your post. From using helicopters to do radar scouting while keeping the main formation silent, to even put helicopters in the path of predicted incoming SSMs in order to get visual on them if/when they came. I did not follow EMCON at all in this scenario because in the initial orders it was suggested to go full active due to the presence of land based SSMs, so I followed the scenario orders and didn't bother with radiation emission control. Even then you'll notice - I switched on radars on the surface warships, but I kept the radards off on the tankers. At the beginning I considered just switching on Wainwright's radar leaving the rest silent, but I thought that if I was to emit with one warship, why not emitting with all of them. Which was useful, too, given that the two Silkworms that I had to fend off at the end of the scenario I would've detected much later had I been under strict EMCOM. as for the helicopters...well, one fell to a SA-8 battery I had no idea was there while trying to recon that island...Radar off would've made no difference... And the other, had I had working SM-2ERs. that F-5 would've never had the chance to fire the sidewinder that finished it. The helicopter was well within my AA cover...I just happened to suffer a...."weapon system malfunction" that prevented said cover to work as it should, and the poor SH-2 paid for it ;). But switching radars on helicopters on and off is not a bad idea. I just didn't do it because I thought there was no risk in leaving them on, given they both were well within my SM-2ER range.

Have the others been slaughtered in this scenario, had to work considering that some SA missiles don't work

Based on other videos, patch #63 did seem a quite... scuffed. Like you said, nothing to be overly worried about, but it's not good when your air-defense ship can't defend the fleet in this situation. The Sea Sparrows carried, though, pretty sure in what they lack in range they make up for in maneuverability and probability of kill. Also, are you playing on the (Hard) level? Because I swear I've seen this scenario with a Kidd-class DDG rather than a Spurance-class - which is a significantly more capable air-defense ship - and only two tankers.

Question did you have both surface and air radar on when firing the standard missiles? I'd also would have tried weapons free when under attack allowing any and all measures to be done to defend the ship. Most likely you were correct there is a glitch with the missiles I'm sure

Well, it's not even early access yet (that'll come the 12th of November), so for sure bugs are going to pop up here and there. I was a bit annoyed by it while recording but afterwards I just thought of it as a "weapon system malfunction" :D. And yes, it's the Hard version of the scenario. I'm a bit like that, if I see two versions of the same thing, one harder than the other, I tend to go with the harder one :D.

I reported the issue to one of the devs and he confirmed the SM-2 tracking issue is a bug and that they currently are aware of it. Weapons free has the downside that anything hostile that comes within range it's going to get fired at. Not just planes or missiles...and I didn't want to waste harpoons in those weaponized weekend yatches :D. Weapons tight will fire in self-defense actually, so is the correct way to go 99% of the time.

awesome video! well played on your part, maybe you could try a scenario with planes on your side? could be cool!

There is a scenario editor and I think there is going to be a workshop where you can download them, I'm sure the community for this game is going to make a lot of scenarios with other nations, especially if they get fleshed out later. There are also quite a few scenarios from the USSR's point of view that have been posted already, though I don't know if they are originaly from the game or if they are custom from youtubers.
@ramjbАй бұрын
There are a handful of scenarios from the Soviet side. I'm actually going to be using the mission editor myself to create custom scenarios to showcase different platforms, situations, etc. The next video, for instance, will come tomorrow, and it is an editor-made scenario picturing an attack against an US-protected convoy where I'm controlling the soviet side.

@@ramjb Thanks! Yes, I personally like taking on higher tech platforms from a less capable counterparts. It is very hard to achieve success against such but when you do, you know it is a skilled one!
