Too early to explore space, to late to explore the world, too young to travel, too old to change. This song reminds us that one of our primal needs is to travel. The song itself eventually thanks the men who explored the Canadian wilderness, using what was laid out before them. Perhaps there will come a day where people can explore space and come up with our own shanties, finding our own Northwest passage among the stars. But until that day, people like Jon, Caleb, Colm, Richaad will continue to inspire our imaginations

Might want to rethink that. Just because what HAPPENED to the crews of the 2 ships the song is about. I certainly want space to be explored, and while I realize it's almost guaranteed to happen, I don't want people to get lost or hopelessly trapped out there in a reflection of what happened in the Northern Passage. Still though... It is true that we all desire to explore the unknown I wish those who go on such journeys the best of luck.

Oddly enough, the first thing that the song reminded me of was road trips with my father when I was young. He’s since passed, but I’m beginning to think that a road trip to his hometown on Lake Michigan might be in order. Ironically, I’ll have to drive Northwest to get there…

Here's an idea to consider: you guys should start your own animated cartoon about your pirate characters going on adventures on the high seas featuring all of your covers (perhaps the ending song to each episode to set us up for each adventure). I bet it would be a HIT!
@tristangreenlee927211 ай бұрын
Maybe I've listened to too many of Jonathan's Disney metal covers, but this gives me vibes of like an animated adventure movie in the same vein as The Road to El Dorado or Treasure Planet, except about an expedition to the north pole. - The first guy is the reasonable but stern captain who's leading the voyage. - The second guy is the 20-something protagonist singing about how he wants to leave his port city hometown and explore the world on one of the ships he sees every day. - The third guy is the captain's laid-back Number One who's friendly with the crew and always in good humor. He has a tragic backstory, but never lets it get him down. He helps the protagonist adjust to living on a ship when he first comes aboard and becomes his mentor figure. - The fourth guy is the bittier hardass who's spent his entire life trying to find the Northwest Passage and failed, who initially buts heads with the protagonist but slowly learns to be less cynical over the course of the movie.

If you think for a second that the age of exploration is over, remember that the vast majority of the ocean's depths are known only by gravitational anomaly at 5km/pixel accuracy, with about 20% known from higher resolution sonar mapping, yet few have ever visited the midnight zone; more people have set foot on the moon than have reached the Challenger Deep, and every dive into the black reveals new species and unknown vistas. Even on land, there are remote corners of the world where no modern person has ever set foot, tribes as yet uncontacted by global civilisation, and countless species never before seen. And that's only on Earth. Who knows what wonders satellites won't show of the far corners of the solar system? One day, there will be a first person to drift through the clouds of Venus, to ski on the sands of Mars, to sail the methane seas of Titan, or to brave the solar corona itself.
