The Nimbus 495 is the largest Nimbus I have had on the channel and she's also the new flagship for the Nimbus range. This boat is a slightly new direction for Nimbus when it comes to the size, capacity and number of features available onboard.

This is an elegant design that will accomodate an entire family for a summer holiday in comfort and in true Nimbus fashion she's packed with loads of great solutions.
Some of the technology is actually confusing at the beginning so I highly recommend you factor in extra time with your dealer to learn hom to operate the Volvo Dock Assist and driving with joystick as it is a completely different process to driving manualy and could lead to confusion around the dock if you haven't practised it first. In saying that the tech is so useful and such a leap forward that I highly recommend you get it. You can literally have a full 360 degree view of the vessel when parking now - just like a car!
This is a long with a lot of information so it's intended for thos of you who are looking to do a deep dive as part of your research of the boat.
And yes - I did forget to film the bunk bed cabin which can also be an office/study! We were pressed for time that day and I just forgot - sorry!

I spent 32 years driving and hitting docks as a OTR tractor trailer driver. What I see with this docking a yacht isn't much different than what I did with trailers almost every day. The only thing I see that's a bit more of a challenge is that the surface of the parking lot has a possibility of moving where the surface of a trucks parking lot is ridged and doesn't move. I believe I could do this, but you now have electronic devices that do all that compensating for you. this becomes easy peasy as doing in as I aged making it easier every day till my retirement.

Some of the best power boat operators I have ever trained came from a career in operating heavy machinery. They just get it a lot quicker than the blokes who have sat behind a desk.

I'm a little surprised they went through the added complexity and expense of adding a stern thruster to a boat equipped with IPS pod drives, at least I THOUGHT I heard you say it has both bow and stern thrusters. I remember hearing a few years ago about the Dock Assist, looks like it's about ready! ETA: Is that a folding radar arch I see?! If it is then that boat will be on the "wish list" for Loopers for certain!

So yes you can have it without the targa arch and also a folding radar mast. They have all the dimensions on the Nimbus website including height above waterline. This was a boat show boat so she had all the options including bow and stern thrusters but that dock assist is very, very useful now.

@BoatLife_DansBoatLife he has been doing that since he was old enough to walk. I usually only watch the rod and reel stuff. If you really want some adventure, call him up and ask him to take you hunting for whitetail deer!

That Volvo Penta side push is a mad waste of money when you've got Sleipnir (or equivalent) proportional electric thrusters who also have the press and hold function and don't burn very expensive diesel fuel to do so!

So the idea behind the side push is so a solo skipper can leave the helm and secure the lines. It has the ability to apply more force than thrusters. But i do see your point about thrusters doing the job and most people will have crew. I'm not sure burning diesel will concern too many owners given the relative cost of this boat I think that may be a small factor but I guess that depends on where in the world you are and the diesel price too.

I've only tested the Swift Trawler 41 so i'm not sure. Build quality on the Nimbus is better but Beneteau do an excellent job of space utilization so there is an argument for both.

@@BilldalSWE you are just admirer, not actual owner of any comparable sized yacht? because word "innovative" in yachting usually used when they just have not enough practical experience how to make a good yacht. Finish is MUCH better in Beneteau, and performance for long range trawler is about _range_ and seaworthy

@@andrew6274 Lol. I've owned a Beneteau 45 sailboat and although the value is good in terms of space the quality is shit. Same for the trawlers I've been on which have plastic and exposed gelcoat everywhere, low quality lining and upholstery especially on the outside cushions, exposed low quality veneer edges on most of the wood etc and especially tables have a much lower quality than the Nimbus. Creeking floorboards and the low quality of the sliding door is even mentioned in several reviews on youtube. Captains seats are cheap and have very bad ergonomics etc. It's built primarily for cutting costs and everyone in the business knows the likes of Nimbus and Marex as well as some of the Finnish boats (Targa etc) are have much higher quality than the French production boats. It's really no contest and also frankly why they are more expensive. Now if you only want lots of space at a relatively low price and don't mind the boat looks like it's designed in the early 2000s then it's probably an excellent boat... Also, it's hillarious you say Nimbus has no experience when they and Storebro (which they later aquired) made yachts since the 1940s. Btw, neither the 47 Trawler or the Nimbus 495 are true long range explorer yachts anyway. Their range is very similar around 6-700nm at 8-9 knots and they will both be used primarily for coastal cruising and not for crossing oceans, lol. Now, get me some actual fact based arguments or don't bother getting back at all...
