Lately, there has been talk of a new largest black hole, named Phoenix A*, which is said to have a mass greater than 100 billion times the mass of the sun! This is much larger than the previous record holder, TON-618. But can we really rely on this prediction? And if not, then what is the largest black hole out there, and how do we know its true size? These are the questions we will answer in search of the universe's biggest black holes.

@@ShaquilleBarron even when the ozone was being destroyed, it wasn't up to regular folks to change their habits, it was regulators and companies that made the difference. The truth is that space just isn't something the average person is forced to think about because it feels so distant and it's difficult to wrap your head around. Climate change is the closest society is coming to care about space, and even then climate change is arguably a closed loop system with a tenuous relationship to space. Space just isn't that relevant to the human quest for meaning and fulfillment down here on earth. Now of course, were there an impending asteroid collision, that would change real quick, but that isn't something society has been seriously forced to reckon with in any meaningful capacity.

"Unrendered Space" is the most unique description of the event horizon that I've ever heard. That one is sticking with me for sure. I hope you never change this format. I got your reply last month , thanks for getting back with me! I have donated to other creators, but I’ve never got a reply from the creator themselves. I know creators like yourself that do your caliber of content have to be extremely busy with fresh content so I get why the others didn’t reply to me. Still, it was very cool so thank you! When I can I’ll drop a donation. I wish I could do more for a channel I frequent as much as your’s. I’m an amateur astrophotographer and , what got me hook line and sinker was your video on M33 and of course M31 which really have no peers on KZbin! I’m not a big reader so if I want accurate information on the galaxies that I shoot there’s really almost nothing outside of a few five minute videos but they don’t break down different star forming regions of the galaxies like you do. It’s really top-notch stuff man and although I can’t resolve individual stars unless one goes supernova like the one in M101 in May. I can clearly see the star forming regions you talk about and it’s nice being able to put a name to the face so to speak. Please don’t feel compelled to answer every comment in a donation I leave. I’m sure you have more important things to do and I won’t take offense if you don’t. Cheers!

What's preventing 2 40 billion black holes from merging?
@alexscholz3438
@alexscholz3438 Жыл бұрын
The rarity, mostly. If we assume that on the large scale the universe is mostly the same, with only local degrees of randomness, then the likelihood of two 40 billion solar mass black holes forming close enough to one-another to collide in a 13.7 billion year timeframe is near-impossibly rare. Excluding Phoenix A and the Camelopardalis black hole for unreliability, we've found a grand total of four 40 billion solar mass black holes, a fifth which could be one with generous estimation, and if we assume Phoenix A and Camelopardalis to be at 40 billion, that would make seven. Five reliable estimations (seven including the unreliables). Going back to the relatively even distribution of matter in the universe at-scale, you would need an asymmetric region of space flooded with plasma in the early universe where two equally sized galaxies (as opposed to one incredibly massive one) would be formed, chiefly from the direct collapse of all of that gas. Supermassive black holes are rare enough as-is; don't forget that the observable universe is 93 billion light years in diameter, and we've found only FIVE of those boiz. tl;dr: Big space empty, not enough time.

You know at some point does it really matter how big a black hole can get? It's so mind boggling to even conceive a super massive black hole being 100,000 times the mass of the sun let alone 40,000,000,000x the sun's mass. So 60,000,000,000 or 100,000,000,000 are just dumbfoundingly absurd. Very cool and interesting but just insanely absurd.

I trust this channel. moreso than those astronomy click bait channels that make wild claims in the title or that the astronomical community has ditched the big bang. I trust SEA, Cool World Labs, Anton Petrov, and just a few others because sources are in description and you all absolutely care about accuracy - anyway thank you

I know what you mean. Best method to avoid trashy videos is skipping everything with sensational titles with words like “shocking” “mysterious “ “secret “ “unbelievable “ etc.
