Little Seabiscuit, proved to everyone that it isn't the size that counts, it's the heart. He never gave up. I love him.

Horses back in the day where really honored. people rarely mis treated the racehorses, because it was a love of the horse. champions were made back then. now adays its all money. its sad, i wish things could go back to the way they were

seabiscuit was such a small horse, i don't know how he won as many races as he did carrying that 130lb impost and a big jockey..amazing
@TYLERVUESJJ4 жыл бұрын
Yes, he was a small horse. But he had a massive lung and heart. Maybe that contributed to his win.

MrItaliano, the fact that you don't understand how important Seabisquit was to a country that was mired in a devastating depression doesn't change that fact that he lifted a nation. Don't be a schmuck and try to throw some second-rate horses up against the great Bisquit.

What's amazing about Seabiscuit is that he was so small and arguably ugly in comparison to say Man O' War. And he usually carried 20 pounds more than his opponents who were taller and leaner yet he managed to win. He could have also won the Triple Crown if it was allowed for older horses because he CRUSHED War Admiral the then Triple Crown Champion. It's a shame Tom Smith didn't find him earlier. Plus he made a comeback after a burst ligament in 1939 and won the Santa Anita in 1940!

Yes, he was only 15.2 hands, wasn't he ? Realitively small fior a T-bred. Seabiscuit died young; at age 12 years, I believe it was. He is buried somewhere on the farm in the little town of Willits, California. His owner never did tell anyone where he buried him. He was a great racehorse, before they used steroids to give false impressions of a horses' true greatness.

Seabiscuit was such a majestic horse. What bothers me is that we take these beautiful creatures and treat them like royality while there winning and once there done they get tossed aside. There are few cases they are provided for after winning. The racing industry should make it mandatory that all owners have to post after care money for these animals so they can live out there lives on a farm.

I think War Admiral won the TC in 1937.... Seabiscuit had been passed around and basically discarded regardless of his lineage. It took Mr. Howard, Mr. Smith, Red Pollard and George Woolfe to turn him around to help him live up to his potential...He was AWESOME :)

Had Seabiscuit not had to carry the extra weight that was imposed on her, she would be holding all the "GREATEST" and "1st" rankings in the world. She was treated very unfairly and deserves to have the records show her true merit.
@5809AUJG9 жыл бұрын
Seabiscuit was a stallion, not a mare.
@dcmc73839 жыл бұрын
All winning horses had to carry extra weight, not just Seabiscuit. The racing secretary would use formulas consisting of data like filly/mare vs gelding/stallion; three years vs four years old; how many races won, etc. The racing community wanted interesting races and not blow outs every time. However, Seabiscuit did compete against many other winners (also carrying a lot of weight) and still often won. You're looking at it from the wrong viewpoint for horseracing during that era. Seabiscuit was so great because he still won WHILE carrying that weight. He wasn't really handicapped because of it, and his greatness was not diminished by it in any way. As to comparisons with other horses. Those comparisons will ALWAYS be apples and oranges because the rules and conditions were different in every era, heck in every race.. I enjoy ALL the great horses' stories and feel privileged to be able to watch the racing clips when they are available. How lucky are we to have so many favorites from which to choose?
