Likely from the 1980s. Seabreeze was a company based in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, that mostly sold fans in Canada, but some models were also sold in the US. This fan, I believe, was introduced in the late 1960s and was mostly made out of metal with the exception of the outer shell and base. Over the years, the fan saw a few small changes that slowly replaced most of the metal components with plastic components. Despite that, the appearance of the fan remained the same throughout its production. There were a few names given to this fan, "Oscillator," "Child Proof," and the most recent "Cool Sweep." Not entirely sure if this era had a name or not. This model saw the end of production when the company went out of business a few years ago.
The oscillating mechanism is powered off the fan motor. A belt connects the motor shaft to a flywheel that sits vertically in front of the motor. There is a drive gear that is molded onto the flywheel that turns the driven gear which sits horizontal above the motor. The driven gear has its teeth on the bottom facing down to mesh with the drive gear. There is an axle connected to the driven gear that has an offset arm, which moves the actuator piece back and forth, moving the louvers. The Driven gear has the ability to slide up and down on the axle and is held down by a spring. There is a lever that is moved by the oscillator control switch that moves and holds the driven gear up off the drive gear to stop the motion of the louvers.
