Seachem Flourish review | Does Flourish work?

Seachem Flourish is one of the most well known fertilizers on the market and I wanted to see what results I could get from it. This video will show you growth that I got with a month of use and I will give my opinion on the product.

No you do not need to turn your filter of when you use fertilizer.

Thanks for sharing. My understanding is that Flourish only provides part of what plants need. In my 65 gallon, moderately stocked community tank, I supplement it with a normal dose of Easy-Green twice a week (since it doesn't list any significant micronutrients) and have seen pretty significant growth over the past two months I've been doing this. Prior to that most of my plants looked like your poor Java Fern. It was very depressing! But I should also add that I also started CO2 injection via a CO2Art bazooka diffuser, so that complicates things. But I stand by my chemical hypothesis that Flourish and Easy-Green complement each other.

This makes sense to me. Your all in one is great but typically made for low tech so supplementing the two would give you the boost in macros that you need. Sounds like if you got Co2 you got a heavily planted tank and I have recently dipped my toe into Co2 and am loving the results.

Idk if anyone can answer this but if I have a 10gal planted tank with activ flora for substrate and I used purified gallon bottled water for the tank. Will me using seachem flourish be adequate in adding the different minerals to the tank that are lost from using purified water when doing water changes?

Flourish mainly feed plants that absorb nutrients from the water column. Your crypts, which feed from the roots, will do better with a root tab pushed deep into the substrate next to each one. (I think yours are each a few inches apart. If they're really close, one tab for several will do.)

Anthony Ragan I actually have some DIY root tabs but I wanted to see the results without it first. My understanding is all plants benefit from water column ferts where not as many benefit from root tabs. That being said I agree with you that there are heavy root feeders out there, like crypts and swords that will do great with the tabs. Thanks for watching and for the advice.

Nice. I'd say it's a solid product. If you already have most of the nutrients big results won't really happen but if someone has not as many nutrients and add this stuff it'd have a big impact. Nice video and tank.

Just put the java fern on to some drift wood and stock your tank a little bit more just don't touch your java fern after you glue it to the drift wood the leafs or parts that split off will grow by themselves around the tank some with massive java ferns just have them floating in the back and makes it look like a background plant

Not dumb at all. Yes a lot of species will definitely grow faster while others will be hard to tell if they are. The ultimate growth enhancer in a planted tank is CO2 if your looking for growth.

Carbon is the building block for all freshwater plants. Flourish provides this. There's a reason it's so popular. Not sure why but someone is spreading lies about it online.

My java moss some part is browning and also some red plant old leaves starts decaying with new leaves grow so do i need flourish potassium or iron?

Kind of odd for java moss to brown as its a pretty low light plant. Do you dose excel or use any salt in your tanks? For your red plant your leaves are growing as others are dying off so it may just be converting from emersed grown to submerged. In most plant farms aquatic plants are grown emersed and therefore go through a transition period for a while once introduced to a tank. I would just keep an eye on things and if they get worst maybe a liquid fert like Flourish may help or you could also try an all-in-one like Easy green from aquarium co-op or Thrive from Niloc-G. good luck

I personally use macro and micro ferts from a small german brand and some diy CO2. Works well so far :)

Do not add it as soon as you do a water change, water conditioners remove most of the metals present in the nutrients so basically you are taking away the much needed iron

I don’t think it gets rid of iron but breaks up the chlorine bond. That being said I have never actually looked into this so I will do some research because if your right, I am wasting a lot of the fertilizer. Thanks for the comment.

Anthony Lowney there is a lot of mixed opinions out there on this and I have no way of proving one or the other. I still add it after water changes, haven’t seen enough of an effect to stop

Fotosynthesis858 it was a swordtail. Not sure what it was but the growths got even larger causing it to have trouble so I ended up putting it down.

Yes you can. As liquid carbon is more of an anti algaecide.

Filip laskovski When using soil you usually will get some leeching from the soil into the warmer column unless capped. What I would do is keep an eye on your plants and not add any liquid ferts until it looks like your plants need it. Reason being is that there may be excess nutrients in the water if you don’t wait and could be a big algae issue.

Hey, I have 2 betta fish and I would love to put a guppy in one of those is there any way I could get a guppy or two.

Let me first say I have no personal experience with bettas. The thing I hear most is every bettas temperament is different. I have seen some kept with a couple guppies in a 20 gallon but going any smaller can be risky. Overall I think most people will tell you not to keep them with anything else other than snails but if you decide to try I would just make sure you have a backup home for the guppies or the betta.

Aqua Apprentice set your lights on a timer have it come on 8-12 off 12-4 on again 4-8 it helps the plants produce its own carbon naturally I do this to all my planted tanks. It works wonders my plants try it out if you'd like..😉I find my plants much healthier since I been doing this 😁👍👍

Daniel sorry to hear that. I think it depends on how heavy you have planted and what types of plants. Some tap water has enough nutrients in it for a lot of things so this may not even be needed in your case. I don’t know why your java fern is dying but I would look for something else to be the cause. This just adds nutrients and nutrients wouldn’t kill anything but if anything maybe cause algae if there are excess nutrients.

Justice For Maximilianmus root tabs aren’t necessary for every plant but is a good idea for any heavy root feeders like crypts and swords.

Your java fern may have died off if you butteries the risome (the part the roots come off from) because those plants aren’t supposed to have buried roots

I would use a pipette or a child medicine syringe or dosage cup. All those things have ml’s listed on it so you can do it more accurately. Since it took me so long to answer though you may already have your answer 😁

If thats the case you probably dont need it. I am guessing if it only started when you dose that you dont have enough plants or maybe just not fast growing plants and its leaving excess nutrients. I dont think fertilizing is necessary unless you start to see deficiencies in your plants. Good luck and I hope this helps

Dosing it every other day can cause a black beard algae bloom. This algae type will grow in aquariums where there is CO2 fluctuation. So, to avoid any BBA outbreak, I strongly recommend using Flourish Excel on daily basis

@@TURKO2424 i’m a beginner too! so it really depends on what you have in your tank :) when i was doing it i used it every day with half doses and it ended up not doing well. depending on how many plants are in your tank, how big it is, and what you might have in it already the answer will change. If you can i’d find someone who’s experienced :)

Well you don’t always need it. For example the plants I have are all low demand plants that will do fine with just the nutrients in the water and fish waste. The catch for mine was that as my plants grew and I got more there wasn’t enough for a large load of plants. So I started dosing and you could tell that the plants were healthier looking. Then you have other types of plants that have higher demand for other types of nutrients and that’s went fertilizing becomes critical. My suggestion is research the plants and buy what fits your needs. Other than that just give them a look from time to time to see if they aren’t thriving and then maybe give this fert or one of the all in one ferts a try.

adding this Flourish to my two tanks resulting in my beautiful frogbits turning brown and dying and stinking up the tank. Be careful. Don't use this. I also added it to a used 10 gal tank that I decided to change substrate (to shrimp substrate) after I added Flourish - the cycling was stifled and again - plants started dying. Now the cycling has to continue longer. In short, I've had bad results.

Something else sounds off. I have continued to use this product and have had nothing but good results. I dont think your lying but this is really just providing nutrients that are already present in most water so it wouldn’t make sense for to do what you are saying. I would think if there was anything else that you have changed around the same time. It’s just odd and I hope you find your answer.
