Today I got a phone call, I had not heard from him in 8 years after a bad break-up (the relationship spanned for 20 years; started in high school and adulthood off-and-on 3x's) needless to say my stomach got in knots, my heart pounded, and feelings all over the place. He apologized, he said he heard a song that made him think of me. We had many songs (aka "our songs"). He continued to tell me about how his life has gone and said he had a horrible break-up 1 year and half, again saying he understood what he put me through. I listened and shared a little, we ended our conversation to a small pause of silence. I then asked "so what song was it, I'm curious?" He then said Seaforth "Breakups" which of course was not any of "our" songs. I never heard of this which he would know, as I don't listen to country....so he said I'll text you a link to hear it. I appreciate music a lot so I had to listen. Of course once we hung up I cried and then when I heard this song I cried more. Today I was able to tell him I forgave him a long time ago which was so freeing. I did text him a thank you for sharing and tell him I too had thought of him from time to time, as I could not verbally say those words. I'm trying to move on with my day and carry-on. Thank you for writing a beautiful song to reunite for a moment and allowing two individuals say their peace.

My ex and I were together for 8 years been separated now for 2 years. We met as I was walking down the side of the river and I was with my friends and she with hers. From that day we were joined at the hip. College came and it wasn't for me so I joined the Marines. She followed me to the ends of the earth and after 3 years together I asked her to marry me and a few months later I made a promise to to love her the rest of my life. Well as always life happened and the realism of being in the military kicked in. I was put in charge of a Marine Platoon and our marriage got rocky from me working all the time. I lost my first Marine in 2019 and I was put in a hole so deep I couldn't see light above my head. I deployed two weeks after and by that time my wife and I were sleeping in different rooms. During my deployment I found out she had a new best friend and she filed for divorce while I was gone. The only thing that hurt worse than being in a war was coming home from war and my best friend wasn't home. The house was quiet, the bed made, it was like she was never there. Every girl I see now I see her, everytime I go to dinner I can't help but remember the memories we had together. Moving on after the chapter we experienced in life together was and still is the hardest thing I do everyday.

The military life is exceptionally hard on marriages. It’s a miracle my husband and I have made it almost 15 years active duty. The pain of being separated from the one you love is hard...seeing them with someone else is devastating. I had that experience earlier in life. It gets better, but usually not before it gets worse...but UNDERSTAND me...it does get better. You will love again, and one day you’ll go to bed surprised that you didn’t think of her all day.

Hello to whoever is reading I want to write the story of the worst decision of my life coz I don't have anyone with whom I can share this with so I'll just write it here and vent out myself. You're welcome to read or to skip. This goes back to around 8 years when I first met her in my school bus (we were in school back then) We talked for a bit and it was nothing special. Then we started sitting together everyday along with a mutual friend We three became best friends and this went for 3 years...then I had to change my school coz of some reasons. We still texted each other everyday. And when I didn't see her for a long time I started missing her and that's when I realised that I love her. I was always physically attracted to her but I never thought I loved her. I was crazy about her. I've never missed anyone as much as I missed her So I decided to tell her and confess about my feelings Idk if it was the best move or not but I knew I didn't do it I'd regret it all my life so I did it. And guess what? She told me she had a crush on me for the longest time too We were on the 7th sky It was the happiest moment of my life I still remember that feeling in my heart We started dating We talked for hours everyday...shared every detail of our past and present with each other. We were perfect...or so I thought. We were serious for each other We promised to get married one day with each other. Said we'll be together forever (classic huh?) 4 years went by...she met my family and I hers (which is a big deal I'm my country indian and my conservative family) our families accepted us We thought everything was good and we'll get married someday for sure and spent rest of lives together. Then suddenly we started fighting Everything started collapsing I don't wanna give any details but it was sad...I wanted to cry a lot (but I didn't coz men don't cry) And our 4 year old relationship ( I consider it 8 year old) ended in a month She left me Didn't even give me a reason as to why. We fought many times over the years but we also went past those fights so why now suddenly? I have no answer. She said she needed a break And I know it for a fact that there was no one else in her life so why?? No idea It's been a year and a half after our breakup and I still haven't moved on She's the first person that comes to my mind when I wake up even before opening my eyes and she's the last person in my mind before I sleep I have no idea how to get past this but I hope I do... Tears are rolling down my face as I'm reading this I've messed up my studies and career and my life I'm alone and I have nobody to comfort me This is truly the lowest point of my life I feel so worthless I'm doubting myself which I know isn't right but I can't stop myself "It's not the goodbyes that hurt, it's the flashbacks that follow" I understand what this means now Everything reminds me of her My only wish is to get past this and live a happy life. I never thought I'd end up like this Somewhere between these 8 years is the biggest mistake of my life. I hope someday I realise what it is. Now if anyone read this extremely long comment...
