She's a beautiful vehicle alright, Americans have great fire vehicles, but unfortunately they're took big for our streets in Ireland.

I'm not a fan of them, but they are iconic if the British Isles. Do you know, were they built from scratch or did Dennis et al us Scania as a base ?

@@chrisclark1761 no they got build from scratch they are still building rubbish trucks I believe. But the rapiers where very stable and low on the ground ideal for urban area

Can someone tell me why use tiller truck? What's the benefit from using this compared "normal" lifter/ladder trucks. I ask because in Denmark we don't have tillers so I don't know anything about it.
@NickSiani2 жыл бұрын
With a Tiller or Tractor Drawn Aerial (TDA), you have a nuts amount of storage and room on the apparatus. Due to the truck being able to turn independently in the rear, maneuverability in tight streets is superb.
@EnjoyFirefighting2 жыл бұрын
@@NickSiani "maneuverability in tight streets is superb." that's what we have all-wheel steering for on European Tower Ladders; With all-wheel steering also a 105' Tower Ladder on a rigid truck chassis has a smaller turning radius than the tractor unit of a Tiller Ladder alone

American ladder trucks and towers carry way more equipment then European trucks, which mostly look like construction lifts.
@chrisclark17612 жыл бұрын
American trucks have roads the size of whole towns.
@chrisclark17612 жыл бұрын
Besides, if it's more equipment you want, a second truck can do that.
@EnjoyFirefighting2 жыл бұрын
while American Aerials carry more equipment than the European ones, the European Engines carry more equipment than the American ones do. The reason for European ones barely carrying equipment on their Tower Ladders is quite simple: keep it as compact and maneuverable as possible to get it into as many tight spots as possible. That's why they don't have a tank, pump, ground ladders, hydraulic rescue tools etc on the Aerials

It would be useless due to Ireland having narrow streets to negotiate that's why we have fire engines that are fit for purpose

A lot of the geometry of North American East Coast cityscapes was inherited from the Old Country. Get an RHD conversion done right and blue lenses, she'll be pulling her weight no problem.

Have you seen the average Irish road or a Dublin side street. This could fit down the quays and main thoroughfares but a side street not a prayer
@unitedfireybride2 жыл бұрын
@bamboo An American fire truck could be made to fit in Ireland, by some manufacturers. They would be nice, have the power, and pump more water. European fire trucks are ugly looking.
