haven't watched the video yet, but it wouldn't be the first. what makes it so rare is thar SMB became a pack in game very early on, so there werent alot of boxed copies around. on top of that most of those had the tab on the back pulled out to hang on the hook at the store. to find an undamaged sealed box of smb, is one of the rarest finds you can get.

I do think it's odd that it specifically was just because of the sticker still being intact. I've seen them with the sticker still on it but cut or opened. So it does seem odd that just to have a sticker still holding it together would shoot it up so much. I could see if it was a prototype, one of a kind, or incredibly rare, but nothing really changes with the game/box/even sticker other than if the adhesive is still holding or not.

Ok still not that impressed heh it's Super Mario Bros 1! Oh well.

How do we even know if the nes library will be sought after in game collecting in the future? It makes sense in the way that it's the first nintendo console and one of the first consoles to have some artistic appeal (atari games were never pretty), but will that actually be enough for future generations to give a toss about the nes?
@startyde5 жыл бұрын
I think it's more nuanced than "everyone will want a Zelda or Mario or Halo" in the future and nothing else. Someone is always looking for something. A sealed Guilty Gear for PS1 hit almost $800 recently, likely because the new Xrd games and BDZ fighter from ArcSys has brought the studio into new light, and with it, new fans of their older work. You never see a sealed copy of Arcana, an early RPG from HAL, and when you do it goes for insane amounts despite the game itself being 20-30 loose. The moral of the story is physical games are on the way out. We're entering a digital era when noone will really own anything anymore, so pristine examples of physical games will become more attractive in time, as they represent a lost era. Sure there are hundreds of thousands printed, but keeping them mint, even sealed over decades will be harder and harder and command a premium. I like sealed collecting and collector's because it serves as a form of preservation. If you want to play a game, there are numerous ways to do so, the medium lends itself to rather easy replication.

This doesn't apply to sealed, but when they grade a video game do they actually play it through to completion to make sure everything is intact? That PCB could have been through who knows what. Too hot, too cold. That to me is why sealed is pretty much worthless. You could have a collection of broken/unplayable games but you would never know.
@Grace-nf7hu5 жыл бұрын
I'm not a fan of graded games; but I have noticed that the market is growing; a couple of years ago they started showing up on ebay, now I see them in sold listings fairly regularly. In comics, there is a market for graded near mint copies of insignificant books. Graded 9.8 copies of books you can get for $1 do sell for $50... maybe something similar will happen in games as well.
@PatTheNESpunk5 жыл бұрын
But then the seller/buyer has simply paid for the grading/slab service. The value of the comic remains really the same.
@Grace-nf7hu5 жыл бұрын
Almost. These books go for a bit more than the cost of grading + the raw book cost, so a seller could make some money. Comic book slabbing really only makes sense for books worth a few hundred dollars or more, but this other market has grown out of it. It's possible it could happen with games too.

There were only like 2,000 to 10,000 (even that number is unknown) ever made in this unique sticker-sealed style only during a test market launch. Even finding an opened box decades later is damn rare. So far this is one is the only one known that survived still being sticker sealed. The 26millions of copies u are talking about were shrink wrapped. So u basically pay for its rarity. The chances of finding a Blue Mauritius are probably higher than finding a super mario bros sticker sealed version in almost mint condition.

Yeah.. That's just stupid collecting. The sealed games. People bought the game and plaid them. And there is so many copies of this game out there.. Why would you have this game, still in plastic ? You don't need any plastics around it , or stickers lol If you want to pay 100k from the game that everybody all ready have ... Be my quest XD
