Hi Mike, thanks for the tour of the Sealstore silo. When I was farming I had 2 concrete and a 50 by 150 bunk.. high moisture corn and alfalfa in the uprights and depending on the year corn silage or sweetcorn silage in the bunk. The cows went crazy for the sweetcorn silage. As usual another information filled video! THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!

Interesting video I always wondered how those unloaders worked , I used mostly top unloaders , last few years was a sucking machine , with like large discs in inside the tower scraping the silage to centre then loading and unloading pipe telescoped down and vacuumed our silage , super reliable system. Unfortunately we gave up dairying, due to illness, silo was removed and is now working in Sweden. Over 35 years of working with unloaders it was best and most reliable and safest. Great video stay safe 🏴👍

Thanks David. I'm glad you enjoyed the video. We've never had that problem before. As long as you stay in that 50-55% moisture when you put the silage in then it doesn't give you much of a problem coming out

Neat to see, there weren't any sealstore silos in our area. All concrete stave, harvestore, and 1 Cropstore. We have a 20x70 Madison silo we used for corn silage when we milked. The neighbors up the road had a 20x30 and 20x50 harvestore for hmsc and a 20x60 and 20x70 for haylage that shared a goliath II unloader. I helped them move the unloader from the empty to the full one a couple times. It was a bit of a pain but worked good once it was in there

The auger moves on the track really slow and it works a little tunnel around it. When we are done with the unloader we back it out of the pile. When you fill it you are supposed to run the unloader for a little bit because of the added pressure

At least the pvc pipe won't rust. I remember anytime we first started filling our cement stave silos years ago we put the first load up kind of slow, just to get the pipe nice, shiny and smooth again on the inside. Had a Harvestore silo as well, some people say they are problematic but I think it comes down to maintenance, or lack thereof. I can see where the Seal Stores might be better with that unloader setup, you can work on it fairly easily if something goes wrong.
@mikep78104 жыл бұрын
Yeah Im happy we went with pvc
@bryanginder59034 жыл бұрын
Jdtractorman the blower pipe is a preference an money thing when replacing them, I've seen both last vary long just the pvc can get holes easy from a rock but the new steel ones are not as thick as the older ones. The unloader on the other hand, the harvestore unloader (Goliath) is a far better unloader then the layding, the guys with problems an hated their harvestore unloaders didn't maintain them an they ended up costing them more in the long run

I’ve still got the concrete stave silo standing but we went to trench silo when I was a kid many years ago. The smell of sedan silage still brings back such vivid memories. Now the labor just isn’t as profitable to put up silage for a few hundred beef cattle so I don’t bother.

Both harvestore an sealstore silos had bags hung inside from the roof but when they needed to be replaced they get relocated to the barns hay mow just have to run pvc from the silo to the bags for the pressure to travle to the bags an back. Hello Frank. The Corn silage unit (middle silo) is the biggest at 25x65 and that one holds in the 600s tons, the haylage unit (silo on the right) is a 20x60 and holds around high 550s tons, and the high moisture corn unit (silo on the left) is a 20x40 and we've never filled it. Do you have to have that bottom on loader going when you're feeling would be a lot of weight on that auger you would think
@jeffkoval51474 жыл бұрын
Yes, your supposed to run the unloader when you fill so you don't "pin" the auger down. Then it will generally form a cavity in the center of the silo when feeding out so generally you don't have hard packed feed in the center. Plus you don't want to run the unloader regularly because if you let it sit for too long, the settling of the feed will pin the auger also
@mikep78104 жыл бұрын
You are supposed to run it a little when you are filling it to take the pressure off the auger. When you are feeding out of it you are supposed to back the auger up a little to take the pressure of it also
