Was the reason why smooth-cast 300 + filler was chosen (as opposed to something like plasti-paste), only for the cure time? If not under a same-day deadline, would this (or any other) choice have been different? Thank you so much for these videos!
@smoothon
@smoothon 3 жыл бұрын
If you aren't in as much of a time crunch, Plasti-Paste II is another option for making the support shell halves, and a slower setting version of Dragon Skin 10 will give you a more generous working time.

Do u need to degas the silicon for glove mold?
@smoothon
@smoothon Жыл бұрын
You could test Drgaon Skin 10NV, this does not need to be vacuumed.

Hello, this is what I was thinking of (during the livestream) over material like plasti- paste2 or shell shock , as a support shell , since it dispute costs -would be stronger , and look easier to apply , at lest for me . (For small shells like clay model parts .

Could I use a similar process as the "Making the Rubber Mold" portion of the video, to make a clear (or I guess whatever color I wanted) flexible glove for my hand? I'd assume there might be some toxic chemicals in the compound that is brushed onto the clay mold, and so I guess there would need to be some research done to protect my skin otherwise, and if yes would it hold together with the flexing of my hand? The reason I'm asking is because I'm trying to figure out a solution for creating a glove for a costume that can either A. Have light defused over it to make it glow a certain color, or B. Have it colored in a way that makes it appear like it's glowing, and I think silicone or a similar material could do that nicely. The reason I'm thinking of this as an option is because of how much it looks like a real hand with a shape, and would fit more snugly on the hand, whereas something like you're wearing as PPE is loose and wrinkly, and wouldn't work for what I'm trying to do.

You never degas even on the first layer? Will I have to worry about air bubbles or does the compressed air help get rid of them?
@smoothon
@smoothon 7 ай бұрын
If you apply the material in thin layers, air entrapment should not be a problem.

So I'm making a mold to make several copies of my husband's hand for Halloween, but I want to do more than just severed hands. Would this process work with ecoflex instead of the Smooth-cast to make a "glove" that I could insert animatronics and retain the flexibility and detail that silicone offers? Also, do you happen to have done a tutorial along those lines? (not the animatronics, just the molding process)

Excellent tutorial! I am currently making a glove mold- I used dragon skin silicone for the first layer but I have run out and decided to try a new smooth-on product and buy eco-flex instead Will eco-flex adhere to dragon skin so that I can continue my glove mold?
@smoothon
@smoothon 3 жыл бұрын
Yes Greta, Ecoflex will bond to Dragon Skin silicone.

At 21:30 it shows some clay came off of the original model and is inside the soft mold, how difficult was removing that from the soft mold? Were you able to turn the fingers completely inside out to clean it?
@smoothon
@smoothon 3 жыл бұрын
Yes, you can turn this type of mold completely inside out to remove any residue.

Great video I watched from beginning to end. So I have a question. I have a model of a hand and I want just to make rubber gloves of the model . So do you have a video making rubber gloves from a model . The hand is similar it’s like a monster hand and I want make a cast and make rubber gloves to wear from the model and paint afterwards. I hope you can point me in the right direction. I would appreciate it.

Hi there! Does Milo have a company email? I'm working on a fan film project and I'd like to Shoot the S#!t as it were and maybe help me to at least on Paper figure out the manufacturing materials costs i will need to accomplish my goals. And all the stuff i need, he's demonstrated here on the channel. I'm using 3d printed bits and foam for the armor parts for my costuming. Both materials are Not Durable and my fan film project requires durability as a break or crack to any one "hero costume" piece will delay filming for a considerable time when I'm only gonna have cast and crew available for weekend filming. For the sake of argument take the Armor set as indicated by my profile picture. I need to copy each piece from the helmet on down, cast each for molds and then do the rotocast as seen in your videos. I took would like to toss these pieces from a roof top and have them nary but a scuff or scratch on them. Once I know that cost, exactly how much I need to get from Smooth On etc. That way i can budget to make it happen. Anyways if Milo is up for it that is i would humbly request an email or Care Of email address! Ty!
