The value of seeing thread colors at a glance in that simple box is way more valuable than that tangled, flimsy bobbin tree you would have to flip over and fight with every time lol

I think the bobbin tree is for smaller bobbins, like the clear ones for domestic machines. I have it and I can see my thread, it might be because the bobbins are clear lol but they hold really well and I don't have threads popping out everywhere. I got a bobbin holder for my industrial that's magnetized from someone who watches my channel and then someone told me to put the thread through one of the holes in the top and it actually worked and all of my thread has stopped running away from me lol. Thanks for trying all this out so we don't have to lol

That's such a good idea! I will get some magnets now hahaha

The bobbin holder thingy is a cool idea, but how do you keep dust off them? Even if your house is spotless, thread attracts dust like it's not even funny. So then you need a case/cover the bobbin holder thingy too?

I vote to keep your cutting mat. A) You've been through so much together. B)This assumes that it's still working as a cutting mat. Never trust an artist who has a spotless studio - means they're more talk than action. Or that their Obsessive Compulsive. Either way, not fun. One trick that quilters use is glue sticks. I'm assuming they smear the back of the fashion fabric. Haven't tried it yet because I don't do piecing, but it seems to work. Without the smell and air particulates. - Cathy (&, accidently, Steve), Ottawa/Bytown/Pimisi

I'm a quilter. There are glue sticks especially for fabric. But you don't use them for large parts, rather for applique or small parts. out can't glue whole quilt layers with those sticks. 🙋🏼‍♀️

Just a warning for the air/water soluble pens, If you iron over the markings it can set the markings and they wont fade even with washing.
@Seamstressed
@Seamstressed Жыл бұрын
I was thinking about that too. I was able to wash off mine, but they were really fresh. I wonder what will happen with markings that are older and already dry on the fabric

Never spray that adhesive glue anywhere near your machine. There are very scary images of sewing machines that were ruined by spraying that adhesive within several feet of the machine. That glue is meant to be used outside on cardboard. Glue sprays a lot further than you would expect. Cleaning up that slightly sticky glue off your sewing area for months is a pain. I still love aerosol basting glue. Also do not substitute gorilla glue spray for the basting glue! I also love Elmer's glus sticks or white liquid glue for basing tiny areas. I hope this helps someone. 💖💖💖

For quilting patterns I wouldn't recommend the erasable pens. Who knows what will happen if the fabrics are washed or ironed. Also not on delicate fabrics because they might show on the other side. Have heard too many complaints about pens like these. But I'm sure there are many good uses for them.
@Seamstressed

Interesting. I think I will have to go deeper in the stress testing of those pens hehehe

I much prefer clear boxes for bobbins, easier to see what's on them and they're contained. I know a wee trick for stopping the thread unravelling, too! I'll try to find a tutorial for it because I don't know what it's actually called, I just learned it when I was playing with kumihimo braiding because it's how you stop the bobbins running away with your thread. I use it on all my thread reels now 👍 I really really want to love the Chaco markers, but either they blurt chalk out unevenly or they need lots of force to use, or both. I use a chalk pencil now, it's like an ordinary mechanical pencil except for chalk. I've got a chunky one and a very fine one (0.9mm!), and I love them 💜 Also, the blue Chaco stained a white fabric I used it on, I was very sad 🥺 And finally, I got my sticker! Thank you! Now to decide where to put it, and whether to explain it to my husband or just enjoy his confusion 😂

0:08 Ok, I have to know! From 8 seconds, in the lower lefthand side of the screen, there’s what looks like a plastic plant with a white-spotted red thing at the top? What is it?! Like, what is the plant (from a movie, tv show?) and what is the object (a lamp, a toy, an ornament?)?

I use the 505 adhesive when making bras. Getting two layers of slippery fabric (especially when your pieces are small) is a nightmare that'll make you want to stab something with your sewing scissors, but the 505 fixes the problem! The adhesive does come out after wash or two, so I haven't had an issue with permanent staining.
@Seamstressed

Thank you for these videos, very helpful! I use the water erasable pen to make guidelines for counted cross stitch. Works beautifully; I've kept it on for a month and had no trouble erasing it (dab it with a wet towel).

I use a rubber band to attach bobbins to the main thread reel. My mumuses a silicone doughnut-shaped thing to hold bobbins. You can easily see and it holds full bobbins but stops them unravelling.

If you want to keep your bobbins from unravelling, just pull strongly on the end of the thread, it will slide inside the threads and keep put. Trust me, it works! ;-)

Yes, a table top thread cutter is useful as a quilter. But heck no at that price - and so easily tipped over. It's not a difficult DIY at all. I suspect "dead" rotary cutter blades would be sufficiently sharp for the purpose.
