The Irish people have held on to their old traditions, their history, their old ways, their songs, and stories of long ago which is their fortune, and their wealth. Like few others have done, When my dear father would tell my brothers, sister and I story and recite poems going back many hundreds of years, He was a great teller of stores of things that happened during his younger life, living on the coast of Connemara. it is not possible to explain the feeling one gets when the hearing this song , its sheer beauty cannot be explained by mere words, a tear in ones eyes explains it best of all

Dhá mbeinn trí léig i bhfarraige nó ar sléibhte i bhfad ó thír Gan aoinneach beo i mo ghaobhar ann ach raithneach ghlas is fraoch, An sneachta á shéideadh anuas orm, is an ghaoith dhá fhuadach díom, 'S mé a bheith ag comhrá le mo Taimín Bán, níorbh fhada liom an oíche. A Mhuire dhílis, Céard a dhéanfas mé, tá an geimhreadh seo 'tíocht fuar, A Mhuire dhílis, céard a dhéanfas an teach seo is a bhfuil ann? Nach óg, a stór, a d'imigh tú, le linn na huaire breá, Le linn don chuach bheith ag seinm ceoil, gach duilliúr glas ag fás. Má bhíonn mo chlann sa mbaile a'am an oíche a bhfaighidh mé bás, Ó tórróidh siad go groíúil mé trí oíche is trí lá; Beidh píopaí deasa cailce a'am agus ceaigeannaí is iad lán, Beidh triúr ban óg ó shléibhte ann le mé a chaoineadh os cionn cláir. Is gearraí amach mo chónra dhom as fíorscoth geal na gclár, Má tá Seán Ó hEidhin i Muínis bíodh sé déanta ón a láimh; Bíodh mo chaipín is mo ribín inti istigh, iad go ridheas ar mo cheann, Tabharfadh Paidín Mór go Muínis mé nó is garbh a bhéas an lá. Gabháil siar thar Inse Gaine dhom bíodh an bhratach insa gcrann, Ná cuir' i Leitir Caladh mé mar ní ann atá mo dhream; Ach tugaí siar go Muínis mé, 'n áit a gcaoinfear mé go hard, Beidh soilse ar na dúmhchannaí - ní bheidh uaigneas orm ann.

@@christopherfretson5114 thank you for your comment as I hadn’t listened to this rendition of this song for some time. As it’s a song of my family’s homeland in the language that they and many struggled and continue to struggle to keep alive it’s beauty may not be apparent to those who don’t know the background to it. Colm, is that yourself? Its Brendan Riley here young man. Did you put this video on? I am sure I recognise the voice its Sarah Griallais. I fell in love with a cassette of sean-nós in the 80s called Blas Meala, and Sarah Griallais sang Tomás Báin Mac Aogáin. Tá guth den scoth aice, nach ea? An bhfuil cliú uirthi i gConemara? Ba bhreá liom a chloisteáil beo. Ar aon chuma tá súil go bhfeicidh mé sa samhradh sibh, tusa agus a teaghlach. slán go fóil

Lovely song. If this sounds like a Persian or Indian song, it is not a coincidence. The Celts came from Northern Iran and the Iranian tribes (Persians and others) travelled East to India. Other related Iranian tribes travelled West and one of these were the Celts. Another were Milesians. Another were the Qashqai (travellers). Ireland is often said to be related to Arabs. Some consider Iran an Arab country. In reality, both countries are not Arab but Persian.

Seanie Murphy Some useful info: These two pieces of info corroborate each other: 1) www.sott.net/article/263587-DNA-shows-Irish-people-have-more-complex-origins-than-previously-thought 2) ".....A PhD student in Trinity’s department of genetics, McEvoy will present the findings tomorrow at the Irish Society of Human Genetics annual meeting. He and Dan Bradley of TCD took samples of mitochondrial DNA, which is inherited from the mother, from 200 volunteers around Ireland using cheek swabs. They also compiled a database of more than 8,500 individuals from around Europe and analysed them for similarities and matches in the sequences. They found most of the Irish samples matched with those around Britain and the Pyrenees in Spain. There were some matches in Scandinavia and parts of northern Africa. “Of the Celtic regions, by far the strongest correspondence is with Scotland,” said Bradley. “It corresponds exactly with language.” While that could be due to the Plantation of Ulster, Bradley said it was more likely due to something much older because the matches occur throughout the whole of Ireland and not just the north. The geneticists produced a map of Europe with contours linking places that were genetically similar. One contour goes around the edge of the Atlantic, around Wales, Scotland, Ireland and includes Galicia in Spain and the Basque region. "

Seanie Murphy While there is some veracity to what you say, I'd advise you to be wary of internet based information. Incidentally, the majority of languages spoken in Europe and North America have Indus Valley origins, not just Irish ,or Gaelic ,in the broader meaning. Is mise,Píaras

+alphasun1 If I were three leagues out at sea or on mountains far from home,Without any living thing near me but the green fern and the heather, The snow being blown down on me, and the wind snatching it off again, And I were to be talking to my fair Taimín and I would not find the night long.Dear Virgin Mary, what will I do, this winter is coming on cold. And, dear Virgin Mary, what will this house do and all that are in it? Wasn’t it young, my darling, that you went, during a grand time, At a time when the cuckoo was playing a tune and every green leaf was growing? If I have my children home with me the night that I will die, They will wake me in mighty style three nights and three days; There will be fine clay pipes and kegs that are full, And there will be three mountainy women to keen me when I’m laid out.And cut my coffin out for me, from the choicest brightest boards; And if Seán Hynes is in Muínis, let it be made by his hand. Let my cap and my ribbon be inside in it, and be placed stylishly on my head, And Big Paudeen will take me to Muínis for rough will be the day.And as I go west by Inse Ghainimh, let the flag be on the mast. Oh, do not bury me in Leitir Calaidh, for it’s not where my people are, But bring me west to Muínis, to the place where I will be mourned aloud; The lights will be on the dunes, and I will not be lonely there.
