His turnover on the goal line under the posts at the end of the Heineken Cup semi-final in 2012 against Clermont to send Leinster to the final is a Sean O'Brien stand-out memory for me.

He was probably the main reason I got into rugby as a young fella. His barn storming runs, agile, skillfull, athletic. He had it all. He Revolutionised the back row position. He was an absolute animal that was so hard to stop in every aspect.

He's barely played any rugby since the Lions tour in 2017. I'd be surprised if he played 15 games between then and 2020. When he's fit he's simply the best Openside flanker in Europe.

8:51 Look here how much more quick, agile and elusive Sean was in 2011. He moved like a centre and was very lean for a back rower. He seemed to have packed on a lot of beef around the midriff since that year and it made him more of a straight-line battering ram...slower and less effective in my opinion. At times over the years he still showed glimpses of pace but always hampered by injury and now very unlikely to repeat his early heights. Not a coincidence that he won European Player of the Year for his efforts in 2011. Haven't seen any of his classic linebreaks or brute strength since his joining of London Irish either, but I live in hope as he is one of my favourite players ever.

Yeah he did it on a Christmas night out with Leinster a few years ago. I spoke to a friend of the guy he pissed on who told me that his friend smacked O'Brien after being pissed on and Tadgh Furlong had to jump in quick to stop O'Brien killing him. Very very lucky boy Furlong was there and wasn't hammered drunk like O'Brien or the dude would have ended up in a morgue.

Imo he should have been moved to 13 when odriscoll went. Power, speed, ball handling etc. Hounded with injuries at no.7.

Such a shame his career was blighted so much by injury. Had the potential to go down as one of the all time greats in world rugby (never mind Irish rugby) if he had greater longevity. If he had more game time on the international stage he would have forced a serious debate into whether he or Richie Mc Caw was the best 7 to play the game. At least as good, but couldn't do it over the same time frame unfortunately.

Great player with an unfortunate streak of pure thuggery, and a very unhappy history of long-term injuries - though given the way he knocked himself around on the pitch that's hardly surprising.

As an Englishman I have to say SOB was one of my favourite players over the last 10 years. He was huge for the Lions when playing at 7 in 2013 and 2017, a big reason we turned both series around. Love watching natural ball carriers like him

What is with potential ALL TIME GREATS Ire flankers being dogged by injury. Ferris for me could have been the NH McCaw. Then O'Brien, pretty much the undisputed primo NH flanker of the past 15 years gets his knees done in. And now Leavy...Ire have bad luck, they produce wonderful flankers. Not a fan of Van der Flier. A back row of 6 2018 O Mahony 7 Leavy 8 O'Brien with Stander off the bench could have dominated the WC, and should have. Leavy for me was why they got to world No. 1. He needs to come back and he needs to be on Lions tour, we need him. Him at 6, Curry 7 with Navidi 8 could be all action. Maybe bring Itoje in at 6 to make room for Ryan and AWJ, there's options. But we need LEAVY!!

@@jonnybaynham1689 Fair play, I just guessed! 😂 He was a monster on the NZ Lion's tour. I'll always remember that.. A real dominator. Roughed up the all black pack along with Itoje and Furlong. He will be missed. As I said the SA Lions pack needs Leavy. He's another monster.
