I discovered Sean Rowe through the EP this song is from when I stumbled across “The Colors and the Kids,” which is another song on that same EP. While the Cat Power cover honors that song and takes it in a meditative direction, this Lucinda Williams tune is given a reading that transports the listener into the visceral dichotomy of war. Hell on earth, death, dismemberment in the enemy’s presence abroad, domestic business as usual back home. The harmonica reaches an increasingly urgent crescendo until you see the bullet pass through not only the protagonist’s heart, but his family’s heart as well. I knew Sean was good, but, fuckin’ hell, this is something else. I hope Lucinda Williams has heard this rendition of her song.

This song is the like the thoughts of military service people like myself, where you never know when your day will be your last day as you watch your fellow brothers in arms get killed or injured around you. You imagine what your family will do when they hear the news that you were KIA, you imagine your last thought that you will have when that day comes and when it does come your life slows down to a stop and you remember everything that your life has been up to the point that bullet hits you. I've been there, It's a horrible feeling but it's there for a reason and it will always be there as long as there is war.

Sai Sumanth I met my enemy today Baby sends the little one out to play Enemy shot until my body's down Baby rides the little one on the merry-go-round By my post, I'm standin' guard And baby hopes for roses in the front yard I don't know my enemy's name Baby takes the little one to the baseball game I'm on this godforsaken place Baby washes the dirt off the little one's face Ten year olds in the killing fields Baby's planning her weekly meals Bodies in body ditch Baby's got a supper to fix My buddy's got a hole in his head Baby's got the little one ready for bed Today I shot my enemy Baby gives the little one a hug for me Both my buddies' legs got blown off Baby tends to the little one's cough I stare down the barrel of a gun Baby's goin' out to have some fun I hear ringin' in my ears Baby's face is all wet with tears I hear echoes of shots Baby's only thinkin' sweet thoughts Why in the hell did they send me here to fight? Baby kisses my picture and turns off the light I can't look my enemy in the eye Baby tells the little one, "Daddy's gone bye-bye" Today I took a bullet through the heart Baby's gonna have to make a brand new start I met my enemy today Baby sends the little one out to play Enemy shot 'til my body's down Baby rides the little one on the merry-go-round

Taylor Tutton, the wealthy of one country sends it’s poor young people to kill the poor young people of another country on the pretense of democracy and freedom. Eisenhower said to be ware if the military industrial compound. WWII showed the corporations how profitable war is and they knew they wanted more wars. The greed of a few spend the lives of the young, it has always been so. There will be war and dying as long as there is profit to be made from war. I have a vision where every soldier in every army in the world just lay down their weapons and say enough, we’re not sacrificing ourselves for your bottom line anymore, and there is peace on earth.

My cousin, he was like a big brother to me, he was my big brother, he was looking for his legar residence in the US so he join the marines, he became a ranger then, Lit. Marcos S. Carrasco Oscos. When I was a kid, I suffered from bullying from most of the kids at my school, in high school same thing, even in college, but he always appear at the right spot and time to protect me, like a super hero, he teach me then how to fight, how to stand your ground and fight, fight for what and who you are, what you love, what deserves to be fight for, family, partner in love, real friends, he showed me that bleed for that it's a true honour, and I'll will do it if it's necessary one day, without a doubt in my heart and mind. I miss him so much, I wish he would be here to see the men in what I transformed myself, I wish you, Marcos, be here and keep teaching me about life, love, work, family, music, comics, movies, all the stuff we used to speak about, I wish you could be here bro, but you have gone years ago, your duty and service take you away from me, and I don't blame anything, I am very proud of being your cousin, of being your brother, I'll make you feel proud of me, because you always trust in me, you always see stars in my head and feed them with your support, and I will make you feel proud, the same way I feel proud of you. Love you Marcos. -Vogel
