Agent Orange was used as a defoliant, not as a weapon. It was used to get rid of the jungle canopy that the NVA was concealed under. It was not deployed against troops or formations. And it's relevant to note that US forces got nailed just as hard by it because they didn't use protective gear when handling it. So, if Agent Orange was (at the time) considered "chemical warfare", don't you think the people handling it would have insisted on hazmat suits and gas masks?

Terrain Genesis umm, bit of a logic issue there. example: cowboys dont want to storm a house full of robbers. so they burn down the house killing everyone inside. any lives saved are speculative, where as the actual death toll is an actual death toll. and i just dont believe that narrative, i think japan was on its last legs. their navy was decimated, their airforce was decimated. we probably could have just ignored them til the end of the war at that point. No way they could have recuperated enough to launch another attack on the US before the end of the war. Not with so many of their factories burned.

Yes a chemical agent used to kill vegetation, improperly tested resulting in uncountable deaths do to the u.s governments lack of accountability. Why do you ask?
@paulanull87317 жыл бұрын
Agent orange was used to defoliate US forestry Service pine plantations of deciduous trees because the pine had better resale value for many years. Many Power companies with rural power lines use Agent Orange to defoliate underneath because hiring people was more expensive. So both in Vietnam and the USA peoples lives were destroyed by this terrible chemical. The US Forestry service didn't stop using it until about 1977-78. Illegally it was continued until 1979 and 1980 in northern Wisconsin and it was discovered in use by the power company(s). The state went after them and won. Those executives knew damn well what it did just like the military that uses chemical agents knew then and now. So many of us exposed to Agent Orange have so many immunological disorders it is stunning. Many of my ex-military friends have Parkinson's and can still smell the stuff in their dreams. Those of the civilian groups have lots of weird stuff but M.G, MS, severe Thyroid problems like Hashmoto's, cancers etc., other stuff too much to name.

I think that he was trying to say that not even the Nazis, despite all the war crimes the SS etc. committed in the field, used chemical weapons to attack civilian targets in war. Of course, Zyklon-B was used in the extermination camps during the Holocaust, but I think Spicer was terribly trying to say in his clarification that he was talking in the context of the use of chemical weapons in warfare. I get the gist of what he is saying but it is not really clear; I understand the sentiment of what he's trying to say - that he is trying to condemn Assad's use of chemical weaponry in the Syrian Civil War - but he just made a hash out of his wording. He should have made it more clear, when asked to clarify, that he was not talking about the holocaust but the use of chemical weaponry to attack civilian targets in war. Spicer has made a lot of gaffs but, to be fair, this is not really his biggest; sure he displayed a level of incompetence via his inability to sufficiently clarify what he was saying, but its not like he did or said anything outright wrong - he just phrased it poorly.

@caitieeeee7 жыл бұрын
But... they did??? They used chemical weapons in Russia.
@lujoja82267 жыл бұрын
*+Caitie Regan* The only things I can think of are when they used smoke to drive Soviet troops out of the caverns below Sevastopol during the Siege of Sevastopol and when they used it again to clear out the catacombs of Odessa during the Siege of Odessa. They used smoke to force them to come out and surrender (or at least fight in the open) as it means that they do not have to risk sending men into a death trap like catacombs which are a defenders wet dream. IMO, this is totally different to bombarding a city or town with a nerve agent like sarin, or even bombarding enemy fortifications with poison like chlorine (as in WW1). I'm pretty sure it was just smoke, but if it was poison I stand corrected. Also, these are exceptions not the rule - the Nazis generally did not use chemical weaponry in war. They had some really nasty chemical weapons - they developed nerve agents (tabun, sarin, and soman) that they considered using to defend the Atlantic Wall, which would have wreaked havoc on D-Day, but they opted against it. I'm not saying that the Nazis wouldn't have used them if they could or that they would - it was a combination of the fact that they were fearful of the Allies retaliating with chemical weapons and also that logistically they were not able to transport it efficiently to the front lines as it would need to be transported primarily on horse and cart and there was no gas mask that was effective to use on a draft horse. If there was an incident that I just don't know of when poison gas or nerve agents were used on the battlefield to attack civilian targets then I stand corrected; as far as I am aware they didn't use them (certainly not on the Western Front, or in North Africa). However, I'm not an expert on the Eastern Front (I have reasonable knowledge but I definitely don't know everything) and it wouldn't surprise me if the Nazis did actually use them tbh.

In Sean Spicer's defence, As far as I'm aware during WW2 Germany did not use chemical weapons as a weapon of war, on the battlefield against military targets or against civilians. Such as dropping gas on towns, but they did of course drop plenty of explosives. The Nazis did however use chemical weapons, small arms and starvation to kill millions of civilians in death camps. Giving him the benefit of the doubt I think that's what he may have tried to say but as usual he made a mess of delivering his message.

Hey! Just signed up at the Holocaust Center here at Mar-a-Lago and so far it's been great. They have free showers (funny though, no drains) and they have these wonderful blue bath salts they apparently drop from the ceiling. I haven't tried that yet but I can't wait. There seems to be quite a line to get in, but it's strange how most of the people I see on line don't seem very happy. And a friend of mine told me that as he was walking by one of the ""showers" and the door was ajar and that he noticed there were all these strange scratch marks on the walls and that the walls seemed to have an odd iron-red stain on them. I wonder what all these ash flakes I see raining down about the complex are, they seem to be coming from the Holocaust Center's recycling plant? Oh well.

Well, H didn't use "chemical weapons" e.g. as they were used in ww1. Of course he gased millions of prisoners, but the horrific systematic gassing of people as an organised hideous crime is not the same as using "chemical weapons" such as bombs, artillery or rockets, and H in fact did not use such "weapons", however he was very guilty of systematic genocide by gassing of imprisoned people. The problem is the misuse of the word "weapon" and no longer making clear distinctions these days, mixing everything up, a very modern trait. I do hope this is not misinterpreted as any kind of support for H or spicer, which it definitely is not, not in the slightest. I'm purely on about semantics here, only.
