“Defamation is simple”. For a woman who apparently studies law, that’s one of the stupidest things I have ever heard. Defamation is one of the most complex charges you can file against somebody. Libel cases are even harder to win. If I’m you Guru, I would threaten to use every legal resource at my disposal to protect my right to free speech if they ever tried it. You might already know this, but because they're both public figures, it would be near impossible to not have a judge immediately throw it out. It wouldn't even get to that, any actual lawyer would would tell her to stop and laugh in her face. She's just proving to everyone that she knows nothing about this subject. Public Figures have to prove the defendant made a libelous statement, with "actual malice" and wreckless disregard for the truth, in order to 'maliciously' damage the public figure's character. If the WAG book was just a rumor, it would still be hard to claim defamation, but the fact it's still for SALE right now, destroys any possibility of "libel". KZbinrs are drawing speculations and conclusions from the FACT that the book is real, and makes no reference of parody or satire. And the general tone of everyone reporting on this, is more pitying and worrying for Gary. Neil Magny is another great example to use against them. If we lived in a world where she could sue people for bringing up the WAG book and running with a narrative, then Neil Magny could sue Gary for taking his comment out of context and maliciously spreading the narrative that he's an abusive father. Neil unironically would have a better chance of proving "actual malice" on Gary's part than Layla would have at proving malice from the community. It's also important to remember that anyone can "sue" anyone for anything in Murica. Don't be intimidated by a letter in the mail from her.

Recent Law Graduate here. I'm a lot less familiar with the US laws regarding defamation as it can vary from state to state (as I understand it) however my degree is from New Zealand which means I understand the UK's laws surrounding it much better as our laws were built around the UKs and Australia's as we're a British colony. I took the time to read the Defamation Act 2013. To make a very long story short, In the UK if you can prove that an 'honest person' would find it a reasonable stance to hold or believe to be true given the set of facts you had at the time (in this case Ian's wife being a complete wag because lets be real she 100% is) then there's no case to be made against you. It also outlines the statements published must case 'serious harm' to the reputation of the entity bringing the case against you. In the UK you also have no defamation case if what you're saying is an opinion (which you are, a wag is not a factual term you can dub someone with, rather an opinion you hold of them) so slander away Guru, you're legally covered lol
