Slide cutting shears are also great for point cutting, as well "talking" them across the top length for added texture. The reason for the flip shears is because the direction the teeth of the thinning/texture shear is facing is the direction of influence you give to the hair. For example, using your thinning shear in the usual way influences the hair to push up. Flip the shear, and the teeth are now on top. This influences the hair down. I flip my regular thinning shears when I need to blend or take weight from a cowlick but don't want it to stand up from doing so. Easy way to remember is teeth up, hair up. Teeth down, hair down. Give it a try. It's an awesome technique.

@moi9148 I've only done about 100-200 cuts over the past year, so not too much frequency on them. They could use some sharpening, but still really enjoyable to use.

Mizutani! They are the highest quality and still handmade in Japan but definitely not a beginner shear. They can be a tad on the expensive side. Find your nearest showroom and if you are in Philly they is one showroom there.

If u know how to cut hair, all u need is one pair standard size shears and one pair of thinning shears: all these companies taking advantage of knew Barbers making them that they need a lot more than they need: and that goes goes for all barber tools

They’re not taking advantage. They’re giving options. No one is making a barber buy multiple shears or multiple clippers. Yes it can be done with just one set
