A little about me:

I work as a door guy occasionally and one of these kids handed me an ID that said their Bday was in 2000 and I was like “nice try buddy” and he was like it’s 2021 and I immediately felt old and stupid.

started playing bass 2 months ago. watched about 100 videos so far about learning bass, and this was the best one to give an idea how to play without tabs, thanks a lot man really cool idea to always return to the root note on 1, i guess it’s something basic but easy to miss for those of us without music backgrounds

I’ll never forget the end of Rocky IV when Rocky grabs the microphone and starts having a go at the Russians and their old dirty bass strings. He’s all “You know I saw a lot people here with their old bass strings . I didn’t like it. And I guess you saw me with my flat wounds and you didn’t like me much either. BUT IF I CAN CHANGE (to rounds) .. YOU CAN CHANGE (your bass strings)… THEN WE ALL CAN CHANGE!!! I just wanna say one thing to my kid.. Boiling the bass swing works great! Trust me I played bass guitar in a band for 5 years. We won battle of the bands in Cincinnati Ohio in 1990. I know how th pop slap two handed tap. Practice both hands when your a bass player. Real bass player don't use a pick on a bass guitar. That's a no no!!!

I thought that boiling the strings really sucked… that was my experience.. And I usually used 2 fingers to pluck my strings.. but some music called for a different tone and I’d use a heavy pick… Phil Lesh once used the edge of a quarter for a certain tone… a couple times I tapped the strings with a drumstick…. Whatever works, I say..✌🏼😎
