My cat Rizzo did the same thing. In 2019, I had just lost my bonded pair within a month if each other and was distraught. In her desire to cheer me up, we took a trip to our local SPCA to look at some cats. Initially, I went to see a big orange tabby who was elderly and declawed but he was being held in a different area and I never found him. Instead, I had picked three other female cats to look at (as per the rules). The first one was totally uninterested in me and cared more about the cat tower in the room, the second one was incredbly thin and frail looking. She was terrified of us and hid in the corner, avoiding eye contact. There was one last cat that we had considered looking at until my mom started noticing a hilarious black cat who kept getting on her hind legs and sliding off of the enclosure door in an arcing motion. I used the string from my sweatpants to play with her and decided to meet her. The first thing she did was rub up on our legs to greet us then jumped to the top of the cat tower to look at us. I knew she was my cat and I adopted her immediately. She is amazing and I love her. I'm so glad I adopted her before anyone else could realize how adorable she is.

I have a beautiful black cat 🐈‍⬛ and when we adopted her we didn’t realize until we got in the car how unique she really was we had her in the box with blankets and my daughter was in the back seat holding her in this box and I hear her in the back hollering “omg mom listen to her meow” and dead silence she let out what was supposed to be a meow but instead it was just like a whisper the cutest thing I’ve ever heard in my life it’s like she had no voice but the noise came out my daughter took her out of the box and cuddle her the whole way home as she whispers meow to her and loving all over her we were just in awe of how adorable and amazing she was so once she was old enough to get fixed when we took her to the vet we had asked them if she would be okay to our surprise the vet told us that she was one of the most adorable and healthiest kitten they have ever seen fast forward to almost 6 years later and she is still every bit as adorable and still has the same “meow” from the start and we love her so very much we can’t picture our lives without her in it also side note when she purrs you really can’t hear that either but boy you can feel it when you hold her so glad that she picked us for her furrrever home we wouldn’t want her any other way ❤️ 😊

My cat also sounded like this when I adopted her, but her voice recovered. I later discovered it was from yelling of being kept in a cage that her voice sounded like that. Glad that she is out the cage now and in a home.

Yep there used to be an outside cat that was so used to meowing for for food at peoples door she would meow at my sisters house all day and night ( yes even when you gave her food she would keep meowing hoping for more) eventually her voice would get scratchy like that until she would finally stop meowing as often. The effect would last a few days. Then once he voice recovered shed do it all over again. She eventually adopted that cat , so her voice never gets scratchy like that anymore.

This is the most adorable thing and I think I have a cat that looks exactly that is exactly like hers for once I don't even know why I have a cat but she keeps crawling on my face and she's doing right now okay so she won't get off my head so I'm just going to leave her there for 10 minutes now she jumped off to go get her foot after my dad got up I love my cat so much❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤!!!!!

I adopted a cat back in 2002..actually 2 since it was her and her sister. The one thing that stood out to me was when all her other siblings were hungry they all were very vocal about it, however, this one that I noticed was trying to meow but it came out sounding like a whisper, no vocals. It was so adorable. When thinking of a name I was thinking and came up with Raspy due to her issues. However over time, Raspy became Razzy, just easier to say lol. Had her from 2002 til 2019. Loved that cat❤...oh and her sister too. That's a story for another day🤦🏻‍♂️😏
