New Balance 1700 "Japan" (M1700JP): Review & On-Feet

I 'm a 1700 collector (30pairs+) since years. Some of them are really hard to find (especially in the right size) and that's exactly what I like most. Many of them are only released in Japan, some earlier produced series from England are pretty rare too... these 1700 JP are not really rare, but it's still a nice pair...

Hell yeah, I bought a pair of these recently at work and I've been LOVING them, super slept on and surprisingly comfortable.

I've been on these since 2000. I had the bomber leather, carbon fiber, and a couple others. Now i have the mitas, beauty and youth, and the 1700 30th anniversary. The Japanese pairs blows the former pairs i had out the water, even though they are seconds; the mitas i bought from yahoo Japan theyre the real deal firsts, they're flawless as well as the beauty and youths. They're not super comfortable but they are stable. They are for the bigger framed runners but i see why Japan is in love with the 1700, its the silhouette which is pretty dope. If you want supreme comfort buy the 2000s if they bring them back. The allure of the shoe is you can dress them up with slacks shirt and sweater or even a suit amd you can dress them down witj a champion hoodie and jeans. Good stuff right there.

I got a “Second” pair also. There aren’t many noticeable flaws. Definitely much better than much of the stuff Jordan puts out quality wise.

Every pair in the USA and elsewhere are seconds, Japan does not play with new balance, at all. If there is glue showing or even a stitch is out of place, they send the whole shipment back. This is why you seen them in the new balance outlet in Boston.

Thanks for reviewing a 1700 model, Sean. I found out about these a month or so ago and was really digging the limited Made in Japan 1700 (CM1700NJ) but was unsure what size to buy. I’m hearing 1/2 size down (thank you 😁) now I just need to find one available in my size 🤞🏼😎

I originally got my true size 9.5 but sold them cause they were a bit big. Finally found a 9 last week for a decent price ($235) and they fit great!

Hi Sean I have a question and i figured that you had a good awnser for it. I really wanna buy a pair of Jordan 4´s in the alternate motorsport colorway. Only issue is that they dropped in 2017 pretty much 4.5 years ago, if I buy it ds from stock x would they break if i started wearing them since they´ve been in a box for long or is it going to hold up?

I got a few pairs of these they were also b grade but stitching on the N was the issue , the store by my house had 11 pairs and they were having a BOGO 50% off a super steal

Mine came with a one eyelet on the left shoe that wasn't fully punched through lol, it was impossible to fully lace them. Had to finish the eyelet hole with a drill to fix it. Otherwise they were flawless 😅

Always loved this color blocking. Bummer about the detects that does kind of make a shoe look fake. I'd still rock these though they looked great on foot and the suede looks like it would age well even after some mileage.
