Had those shoes a couple of years ago. It was the same color as those. Those were my very first Nike shoe. I used those everywhere: chillin outside, running on pavement, playing ball, everything. They held up for 4 years plus before getting thrashed. Thanks for the review Sean, now I'm planning to get another pair of those because of nostalgia.

Great shoes! I always expect them to squeak though, but no problem. Just remove the lightly glued insole and sprinkle baby powder throughout where the insole goes and replace insole. Works perfect every time!

It's no surprise to me why this shoe outsells Jordans and Air Max's. It's available literally everywhere, very affordable, aesthetically uncompromising since it goes with everything, and it's comfortable. Combine that with a consumer demographic that doesn't necessarily care what he looks like when he walks out of the house to mow the lawn or go to the bank or get groceries, and you have the perfect recipe for a dad shoe.

You haters can call 'em "dad shoes" all you want -- I don't give a shit. I just bought a pair today. Love them. And yeah, I'm over 50. I'm going on a trip to Europe in a month where I'll be walking my ass off, and I need something supportive and comfortable. These will work. I went a couple years ago in a pair of supposedly top of the line Merrell hiking shoes, and my feet hurt like hell. While all you 20-somethings are giggling away and preoccupied with your ego and appearance, I'll be perfectly happy and pain free, no matter how you think I look. That's the joy of getting older and more experienced. I don't give a rat's ass.

Dude, these things are AMAZING!! durable, comfortable, and basically waterproof. I have worn tons of shoes and been clowned on for wearing these, but I will always put these things on over my torch 4'S They support my feet so well, that I can work an 8-hour standing shift without getting sore. I have played basketball in these, and I gotta say, they are beautiful to wear. I don't get the clunky feeling at all since I already have massive feet (13 wides) they are very good and last me 3 years on average (I have bought 4 pairs) way more comfortable and supportive than the typical Jordan 1's

These shoes were the most comfortable I have ever tried. I bought two pairs because it's tough to find extra wide 4E shoes that were comfortable. After a few months i discovered that they began to squeak when I walked. The second pair were the same so I was stuck with two pairs with problems. Later on I thought I would try them again when I figured enough time had passed that they must have fixed that problem by now. The original two pairs were made in China. The next pair came from Indonesia. The Indonesian shoes were exactly the same Air Monarchs but there was a noticeable reduction in quality. Also, they had apparently changed the composition of the soles to the point where they didn't feel near as good to walk in. They are now hard and inflexible. And they were quite expensive in Canada, I could not find them for any less than $100 on the East coast. Somebody said they kept their shoes for 4 years. Not my experience. 1-1/2 years was the max for mine and they squeaked like a SOB for more than half that.

Reeboks were very good quality back in the 80s, when I wore pairs of the black Reebok basketball type hi tops or whatever all day long for years. All leather but padded and very comfy. These days I dunno if Reebok's quality is remotely where it was back in the 80s. I doubt it.

I could give a toss about the dad nonsense. I'm a 55 year old guy that has started the past year or two doing serious fitness walking at least 4-5x a week, maybe an hour to 90 min. tops each session. I heard about these just recently, and saw them on sale at DSW in my town here in NY. LI. I was told by a big sneaker fan yesterday that Nike Air Max 90s are trash, by comparison. I don't like heavy sneakers, but I like comfortable ones with tons of padding, since my feet seem to be a tad flat, and need as much support and padding as possible. I'm going to order a pair of these very soon, I think. I bought a pair of NB Trail Runners in the meantime, and they are also very good. They broke in in 3 days and are super comfortable. But the Monarchs look even more comfortable, at least for general walking.

Are these really considered to be "cringey dad" shoes? I have this exact pair and I love them! I personally love a trainer that has a big puffy tongue, so these were just a nice option for me and for the price, which here in England was around £60, you can't really complain. I don't collect sneakers and don't ever really spend much more than that on shoes, so I'm happy with them. Would like to see either a navy with white trim colourway, or a beige with turquoise or green colourway in the future.

These are a steel for the price, i have just had a pair, took of my asics nimbus 21 shoes off, and was in no rush to put the asics back on, the nimbus are abit softer under the foot, but these nikes feel good lots of protection, nice wide fit, my air max are not as comfy as these, i tried lots of different shoes out in the shop but i always come back to these nikes, these remind me of the old basket ball shoes in the 80/90s

I have owned two of these Nike monarchs. Contrary to public opinion there is no real leather on the shoes. The main problem with the shoes is they squeak. you can look on KZbin for many videos with people addressing the squeak problem with all kinds of different fixes. I don’t understand how you can be criticizing the look of the shoes what could possibly be wrong with them? A big plus of these shoes is they come in wide and extra wide sizes.
