I picked the forest farm which has an abundance of hardwood so I had a worm bin and crab pots setup on my farm right near my crops. That makes it easy to spend 10 minutes to get a bunch of junk fish to make sashimi. Most of the town has it as a liked gift so I can just hand out stacks of sashimi while passing through town. Here, Pierre, you like this week old snail sashimi, don't you?

@@tobb7006 TL;DR: you'll have plenty of time to mine and stuff. You just need to plan ahead your first spring since money has a snowballing effect early on. Fishing can bring you a decent amount of money your first weeks. Tipically you fish until you pass out. Be broke and be sure you level up a skill so you don't lose any money and you're rested for the following day (you don't get energy penalty if that night you leveled up a skill). Day 5 you mine to floor 15-25 depending on luck. Get 45 copper ore so you can craft a furnace and smelt 5 copper bars on day 6. upgrade pickaxe that same day. Day 6-7 keep fishing. Days 8-9 try to reach floor 40 and get 25 iron ore. Day 9-10 upgrade pickaxe. Fund the upgrades with profits from fishing. Keep Chubs for energy (I plant 215 potatoes on day 6 to reach level 6 farming Spring 12, I really need that energy). If you need wood, just cut enough to meet your needs, normally it's a chest, but don't cut the stump unless you need the spot it's occupying. Stumps are not worth the energy this early on and they spawn tree seeds around them. Rainy days fish at Cindersap Forest for those Catfish, they can be hard to catch, but they are worth a lot. Always go for bubbles and treasure chests and try to get perfect catches (double xp), you'll be leveling up your fishing skill without even noticing.

Bait is 5G per from Willy. When I play I literally just buy 200 bait from Willy, don't care about it for like 2 seasons, and then repeat. Or even if you didn't want to buy it, just go to level 15 in the mines and kill bugs. Using the burglar ring gets you 2 bug meat, or 10 bait, almost every kill.

The copper pan should be upgradeable, like the other tools. Also, each tool should have a special unique item "upgrade", like the Golden Scythe. The pick and the axe could have a single pickaxe unique item that lets you replace both in your inventory, for example. Each is the reward at the end of a special event, be that a dungeon, or some other method.

On my current very casual playthrough I have a bunch of them standing around where I just put all my Geodes from my day of mining in, I dont really wait for them to finish, I just put them in in the evening, take them out in the morning, and if I have more geodes left than I have crushers I just put them in in the morning as well before going on my daily grind. Crab pots are good item while they are pricey remember that they give u items for almost free (and is free if u take perk in fishing) and makes worm bin useful. Also you forget that one of the best sources of coal is combo of crab pot + recycling bin. Spring onions are good source of gold for first spring as you get your first gold for seeds from them. Oh I will add that crab pots are great source of fishing xp as You don t have to waste stamina on them and can collect them at the start of each day when shops and homes are closed.

I use worm bins and crab pots every playthrough.. I have 10 crab pots on the farm to produce 10 fish that I "cook" into sashimi (Linus friendship recipe) and 5 worm bins to produce more than enough bait to "feed" the crab pots.. Just be sure to get the crab pot related perks including the one that prevents catching trash items (Mariner?).. The reason for going for "always catch fish" perk instead of "crab pots never need bait" is 2-fold.. 1) Every crab pot filled is guaranteed fish, which means sashimi.. 2) While holding bait, your only interaction with crab pots is to fill them, which prevents loss of time and inconvenience of picking up crab pots accidentally.. Sashimi is a very easy to craft food recipe (literally ANY fish).. You only need a kitchen and about 2-4 hearts with Linus to get the recipe.. Since sashimi does not provide any buffs, it will never override any food buffs that are harder to craft.. While it is only marginally better than iridium quality Salmonberry and Blackberry, you can mass produce it all year round instead of waiting for the small window in each year to run around the entire map to find them.. Which, by the way, is another boon in itself since you don't need to hunt down numerous locations across the entire map (that may or may not even have a berry to harvest) to get the most each year..

Yeah, Crab pots can actually be quite useful due to the existence of Recycling Machines as a fairly consistent source of Refined Quartz, since two of the 5 trash items (Broken CDs and Broken Glasses) recycle into it, and two other trash items (Trash and Driftwood) can potentially give you coal, and Soggy Newspaper has a 10% to give you cloth. Though I 100% agree that panning is near pointless, especially since it's possible to get Lucky Rings in Skill Cavern (in my current playthrough I'd gotten two Lucky Rings before I was able to use the Copper Pan once) and the panning spots are so rare and don't even last that long.

Crab pots are not that bad! The thing is the fish can be cooked into sashimi, which sells for 75g. With the no trash profession, that guarantees 75g per pot per day, for the price of 1 bait. 100 pots = 7500g. And it takes way, way less time and effort than normal fishing.

I always have so many crab pots everywhere! I take the fishing perks so that I don't need to use bait with them, and then I have (with the help of a recycling machine) more refined quartz than I know what to do with and all the sashimi I could ever want (which makes for a lot of my income before I really start hitting late game optimization). I also always have at least a space reserved on my farm for 1 flower surrounded by the max number of beehives you can have there and still reach everything. It makes for a great zero maintenance source of regular income, and it's a pretty decent amount for when I get it built. While the "beehives act as automatic fertilizer" would be cool and I wouldn't say no to it, it would mean completely changing up my standard farm set-up. I will admit to only ever building one worm bin per farm, just to go for completion of having built everything. But once I have it I do go ahead and grab the bait from it every day. Not amazing, but pretty nice. And the geode crusher for me is worth it because I always end up with plenty of coal, and Clint's hours such, so I much prefer to have something to open them myself, even if it's just one as I run past the crusher on my way to somewhere else. But I usually have a couple set up. No argument about how useless the Spring Onion Mastery and Panning currently are. Even when I see panning spots in the water, I find there's often no way to actually reach them anyway.

As a new player here are my thoughts: First of all walking around is a major aspect into what makes an item good or bad. Crab pots, this item is actually pretty good when combined with a recycling machine. Getting refined quartz at an often rate without needing to fish up an item and then getting it is a major help towards the items that require it without needing to constantly fish up trash. A proposed rework/change: I'd say maybe make it able to pick up items depending on its bait status, no bait: High chance of trash and low chance of getting fish parts i.e. pufferish parts. With bait, high chance of fish parts and low chance of the crab pot pieces. The reason for this change is because you have NO idea where any of the fish needed for the Community center spawn unless you fish every day of the year which is a major pain unless you want to wiki. Geode Crusher, I use it. It is good if you don't want to walk all the way and wait until Clint opens. Also the hour passes by through the night making it useful in that aspect. Making it one coal to crush five geodes is a fine suggestion. The coal requirement isn't that bad if you are playing with purchasing minimal items. Spring Onion mastery, oh yeah that item sounds absolutely terrible. Yeah that deserves a rework. Bee House / Worm bin, I think those two are fine once you get into the mid-game.

Worm Bin: I think that's the wrong fix to the bin tbh. It should produce bug meat instead of bait and like 5 of them per day. At that point its worth the cost, even with the hardwood. Plus it enables the player to craft either bait or wild bait. Pan: I fully agree, it hurt me when I went to clint and he couldn't upgrade my pan. But also it needs good rewards, cause I honestly can't justify carrying it around with me right now. an empty inv slot is worth more to me than the pan is tbh. Hoppers: I think the hopper should actually be a thing that moves items from input to output whenever possible, with input and output labeled, probably just back to front tho. So that you could use it to automate things. For example, chest full of trash -> hopper -> recycle machine -> hopper -> chest. Yes that takes up 5 tiles. but the fact that it now keeps going all the time without you needing to be there is huge. Heck you could also automate things like hardwood into wood and wood into coal. Then at least for forrest farm users, you'd have 1 decent coal solution

I'm gonna need to counter that crab pot argument, and provide a different balance idea. The cost itself is somewhat high if you craft them, but the fish shop sells them for 1500g each. Accounting for the ores, coal, and time to make them, Willie's price is better over all. As you mentioned, you get low price fish and trash. This is needs a piece of bait, again bought from Willie's store for 5g without luremaster perk(yes the worm bin is bad). However if you have a kitchen, and got Linus up to 7 hearts for the sashimi recipe, the minimum price for any of those fish will be 75g each. The sashimi is also a very reliable easy to get food item. My early game crab pots fish didn't get sold, they got eaten. And it doesn't override any other food effects I have. I usually am able to have both in by the end of my first summer. The crab pot's strength is that you get fish from it every day as long as you can have access to the area you put them in. You can have hundreds of these along the river and beach, and get a lot of fish everyday. Quantity over quality. The trash is also something I want to get for recycling machines. The changes I would want to make would be make the copper bars the base recipe for crafting, no more iron. Then change the Trapper perk that used to make it cheaper to craft make it so there is a chance at double of what the crab pot catches. The fish are not so high value where this would even break it. Then this would fit better with the lvl 10 perks for the profession.

On the forest farm worm bins are definitely viable early, but everywhere else they are a bit expensive until late game. I also wish that we could learn crafting or cooking recipes from lost books. This might just be a me thing because I like cooking, but all the good fish buff foods are super cheap if you have crab pots and cows (plus sashimi is amazing). I normally swap my fish sell price buff for crab pots don't need bait after I get a couple hundred thousand gold because you don't fish for money after that and the food is better

Additionally, the copper pan can also be worn as a hat, as mentioned in the video, so it literally takes up no inventory space. There is no reason not to bring this item, and would be completely broken if buffed in my opinion.

another option for spring onion mastery could be making it 'forage mastery' instead, maybe not increasing the prices by 5x but increasing the sell prices of *all* forage

Crab Pots are already cheap, they only cost 1500g to buy. They also make around 75g per day, so only 3 weeks to break even. The real issue is that they are annoying to handle, because there aren't that many straight coast lines where you could line them up like kegs. Also, the level 5 perk should be that you don't need bait anymore and the level 10 perk should be either the one where you don't get trash or one where it can hold 2 items before needing emptying. Let's not forget that Sashimi is universally liked (apart from 6 people that are usually even easier to please) so if you got 12 crab pots (3 for free, 1 crafted for perfection, 8 bought for a total of 12k), you produce enough liked gifts to satisfy 28 villagers twice a week.

If you have the tracker profession you notice there's quite a lot of panning to do, unfortunately the spots tend to spawn where you can't see them and it's especially tricky if you're in a large area with more than one body of water, so without the tracker you just miss them. I do agree that you should unlock this ability much earlier in the game tho.

Okay I respect and cherish you but I have to defend the crab pots. I love my crab pots in mid and late game so much because they allow me to make SO. MUCH quality fertilizer and farm extra resources -- also, crabcakes galore! (I tend to run out of spicy eel quick unfortunately) I do agree with you on the cost to craft though, its more bars than a single keg. I honestly think crab pots would be more interesting if we just... took the copper pan out and made it possible for crab pots to get ore or minerals (tho that would probably make both the pan and the fish pond more obsolete). Anyways I have a pond full of crab pots that saves my ass the last day of every season and ill love them forever

4/5 items in the crab pot bundle can be foraged on the beach and the crab can be obtained from killing those rock crabs in the mines so the crab pot is pretty obsolete

Panning spots make a splashing sound when they spawn. I'm on the forest farm so they spawn fairly often with those 3 bodies of water. The extra coal, iron, and copper adds up and is a nice little boost for keg making. I agree tho that for a bundle reward like the fish tank, it needs to be beefed up.

Of course the hopper would be better if it unloaded machines automatically as well as loaded them, but I kinda disagree that not having this feature makes them totally useless. But that might just be because of how I play the game-- I tend to keep stacks of whatever thing I'm processing in my inventory so that when my machines are done processing I could just chuck more into them right away instead of having to root through my chests first. Like for example when I have eggs waiting to be processed into mayo I'll grab as much as I can from the auto grabber and have it in my inventory until I can put it in to be processed. Of course the issue with that is that it takes up valuable inventory space, so having a hopper to put the stuff I want to process in and it loading those things into the machines as soon as I unload them... well, like I said it'd be better if it unloaded automatically too but I still find it pretty useful

The one reason I think beehouses arent that underpowered is they have on op niche in the end game which is ginger island. Since the season is universal and the crops dont wilt, you can set up a lot of beehouses to make free profit every 4 days with no work needed after set up

1.6 made crab pots much better! Yes, it takes a season for a crab pot to repay its own purchase value (1500). After that it's passive income. But as of 1.6 the trash you catch is pretty darn good. A map full of crab pots generates the materials for several dressed spinners per day, for free. Go fish, smoke the good ones with the coal you also got from the crab pots, get rich. Or you spend the iron on kegs, sell the cloth. Whatever you like

Beehives can be placed on non-tillable spots. So there are quite a few areas on both normal farms and especially on ginger island where you can place a fairy rose on a single tillable spot and then put a ton of beehives on non-tillable spots.

On the topic of crab pots, there should definitely be more incentive to get recycling machines. I'm no game designer so don't ask me _how,_ I just know less people would complain about crab pots getting filled with trash if you could then *do* something with the trash. Not to mention that alongside crab pot and worm bin buffs, it would make both paths of the Trapper profession viable instead of "trash farm vs. bait sink"

I use the Worm Bin. I have a section of my farm near the water near my house where I keep a few crab pots and a worm bin right near by. Every day the worm bin produces enough bait for me to refill the traps. Then I take the items from the crab pot and put them into an adjacent chest. I use the items from the crab pot to make refined quartz or recipes like fertilizer that just require any fish.

The only time i really make a lot of crab pots is when playing modded and I have automate installed. bait is ultra cheap so just put a chest next to a line of pots, put in a bunch of bait and it results in quite a lot of passive income.

I agree with everything, including the aggressive indignation. I only use crab pots with the Automate mod, it levels my fishing passively, trash is useful, and cheap fish makes for yummy sashimi for the skull cavern. This is the only scenario where 3 iron bars or 2 copper cost is worth it, for me. If the worm bin produced bug meat instead, it would have been useful(bait, wild bait, steak, magic bait...etc). The geode crusher... must be a joke, it has to be, right? Same as the spring onions. Instead of buffing spring onions when you don't need them anymore, how about buff them for 1st of Spring year one, when you need them THE MOST(or only)? In most games I ever played that had bees in them, the apiary would improve the flowers(or crops) somehow, either make them grow faster, stronger, cross-pollination, mutate into something better...etc. So that would be nice.

Hey, Seanie! Really enjoyed your vid 🙂. Maybe a fun crab pot mod will come out! In my experience, bee houses can be helpful for making gold, particularly on ginger island. Even without the artisan perk and flower buffs, a bee house generates 25g/day. Not bad for early game! On ginger island, with the artisan perk, a fairy rose bee house can bring in 238g/day all year long. Thanks for reading!

I don't necessarily think the crab pots being as expensive as they are is the problem. 3 iron for infinite usage isn't terrible. It's the loot and the profession. Since when you make enough of them, to fill everywhere they can be, your profession is as good as useless. Make the profession give a higher chance to get more expensive catches, or increase the value of crabpot catches (that isn't junk) 200%. Hell, even decreasing the ratio from 40% trash to 20% trash is an improvement. Better catches that make it worth it would be where I would start, then fix the profession.

What abt oil makers? They turn truffles into truffle oil and corn, sunflowers and sunflower seeds into oil. I have the Artisan and Botanist Perk and also a Barn with 4 pigs. I have 1 oil maker bc of a quest which lewis wanted a bottle of truffle oil. After which I realised that truffles at iridium quality bc of botanist perk sold for 1250g each while truffle oil goes for 1491g or smthing like and oil is kinda useless since you buy them from pierre for 200g. THE MAIN POINT is that to craft one,you need 50 slime, 20 HARDWOOD and a gold bar. Hence i think their useless at any point of the game whether its mid or late game bc their useless and 20 HARDWOOD (PS: If there are any error pls tell me in the replies or if there are any good reasons for these stupid oil makers)
