This was the first ps1 game I ever played. Imagine upgrading from you megadrive to your first 3d console. It's the future!!! Then you get stuck in a corridor for an hour, get killed a hundred times by a bomb and finally get stuck in a bin.... ...thank god my 2nd ps1 game was Crash Bandicoot

The absolute horror I felt when I went to visit a friend, he showed me various old PC games he had, and one of them turned out to be the PC port of this Men in Black game... PS1 version might not have come out in America where I live, but the PC version sure did...😱

4:44 this "hold a button and press up to shoot" thing was a standard for PC back then. Hell, I still use it with some tank control games out of habit. Also, I played this "masterpiece" on PC, however, I don't remember it having that introductory bomb level. But it's probably another brain fart on my part.

Back when we used to play on potato PCs in early 2000s (when India was still way behind in gaming), the demo of the PC version of MIB game looked mindblowingly good (because pre rendered backgrounds).
@SeanSeanson3 жыл бұрын
I still think pre redendered backgrounds really good even. They were definately some of the most eye catching games, even well into the early 2000s. Some parts of this game still look great, but the PC version is definately shines above PS1 port.

Growing up I was a console kid and my friend had the PC version of it, I remember being very excited to play it as I loved Men in Black, I don't think we ever figured out how to get out of that "tutorial" level. Never knew it had a PS1 port, kinda wish I had this one despite how bad it is.

When I was a kid, my dad bought a WHOLE CRATE full of ps1 games from a video store (on a manic high) at a trade show, and this bastard was one of the games. At the time, I couldn't save because a friend filled my memory card with Cool Boarders data and I didn't understand that I could just delete that data, so every game I played from the crate HAD to be played from start to finish without saving. Checkpoint-less games like this one were my white whale. Seeing you die repeatedly from that bomb unearthed some buried trauma - it's quite an adult game because it throws you blindly into every situation and you basically need to use your intuition to complete the level. It took me weeks to get out of that hallway because I didn't know you needed to press a button on the right door, because it DOESN'T TELL YOU JACK. ...That crate was full of crap games XD

Oh no I didn't even consider folks who didn't have access to a memory card... That sounds genuinely nightmarish. Crate of crap games seems like my kinda thing though XD

@@SeanSeanson Some of those games seem to be lost to time as well - there's one I can't find ANYWHERE which was a wacky street racing game with the most ghoulish gameover screens. They had a sketch of your distraught character post-match being upset, but the drawing style was this exaggerated sketch-artist style where their skin looked more like melted rubber. I can't find it anywhere. I'll never find it. Maybe the wheel will land on it idk XD

I remember thinking why there wasn't a MIB movie game for 90s consoles before later finding about it and being excited to play it. Got a emulator to play it.. aaaaannd was greatly disappointed the controls were similar to Resident Evil but even worse with the barely responding controls, low health bar and trying really hard to move into the direction I want to shoot before I die. Couldn't pass the New York level and just decided to quit since it really seemed like a frustrating chore than the MIB world I wanted to experience. Looking forward to the MIB animated series game since I also got the emulator for it but didn't continue pass the 1st level.
@SeanSeanson3 жыл бұрын
That opening level really is one of the harshest I've played in a game, it must have turned off so many people.
@JinxSanity3 жыл бұрын
@@SeanSeanson I read on some KZbin comments on other videos about how one person as a kid rented it from a video store but ended up returning it that day cause the 1st level was so difficult it greatly disappointed him as a kid. I seriously wonder if the game was even tested or if it worked better on PC cause the shooting sections with the turning around to shoot people instantly was just impossible for me to do, I must had died about 10 times before quitting. Even playing on my phone with the emulator putting the controls all close together was hard to do, can't imagine the pain it must had been on a actual psx controller.

It’s a shame because there is stuff here to work with. Brighten things up, balance the combat around shooting, remove platforming, and double the levels and your have an underrated gem. This feels like aloha of a game. Something that’d you’d show to your boss as early progress. The fact that they released it in this state is nothing short of shameful.

I've never seen anybody make much of a mention of this, probably because it's trash, but the pc version which I owned. In the Arctic level, instead of picking up the cd to turn on the security system on the computer you had to manually enter the password to accesa it. Which I found out years later from a walkthrough was 'daisy' after the dog. I never got passed that, I was a child but there's no prompts or anything to give you any idea 🤣🤣 on the ps1 port they seemingly switched that little puzzle out. I cant imagine I was the only one who never got passed it
