I loved this and I have so many questions. What makes one worth $3,000 and another $1,600. What are you looking for? Are there certain farms that can demand more for their sheep and rams? Why were you looking for that particular breed you brought home? Was the sheepman who raised the rams in the ring with them or was that an auction worker. What were they trying to show off when they poked their sticks at the animals. I could have watched them in the field for a couple of minutes longer after seeing them in the ring. I came for the running dogs but this is absolutely just as interesting.

Here's a couple more "silly" questions: Why do they dye the sheep's wool while it's still on the sheep? I liked those animated auctioneers, but I couldn't spot when someone in the audience was making a bid. Were they out of the camera shot waving their arms, or were they leaning on the fence and being very subtle about it? Thanks for including us in this aspect of being a shepherd.
@seanthesheepman5845 Жыл бұрын
We bid very hidden, a tip of the head or A tap on the bars normally
@lindaj5492 Жыл бұрын
I think it’s common across the UK that bidders at livestock auctions keep their bids very subtle, so other farmers who are competitors don’t know who they’re bidding against. If a competitor knew a wealthy farmer was bidding, he could push up the price then drop out.
