Thank you for picking Renaissance, Pete. I saw them play live for that album, at Convocation Hall at the University of Toronto, and then I saw them at Massey Hall, also in Toronto, for the Scheherazade tour. Really great band live. Big favourites of mine. You guys have picked a bunch of albums I'm going to check out, some by bands I don't even know, and some that I just never really got around to listening to. Thanks so much for this show!

Agreed, extra points for including Renaissance. Saw them during a 4-night run in March 1978 @ New York’s City Center on the “A Song For All Seasons” tour. Some of the best live singing I’ve ever heard. Annie Haslam downstage right, barefoot in a floor-length light blue gown, charmingly giggling between songs. Unforgettable.

@@MartyMurray Somehow that doesn't surprise me! A dear friend and occasional bandmate of mine who sadly passed a few years ago, David Keyes, played bass in Renaissance through the 2000s. He couldn't say enough great things about her. Having survived breast cancer herself, Annie was a huge help to him in his long battle with leiomyosarcoma. Two great souls that got to play music together!

Muse aren’t just playing arenas, they’re playing stadiums! They did two nights at Wembley Stadium in 2007. Pretty amazing considering the style of music they play. I’m not a fan personally, but they must be doing something right as they are HUGE. Just one thing - no ‘Love Beach’?! Surely some mistake...

Some absolutely great selections from both you gents. So thrilled to see Camel’s Mirage on the list, one of my all-time favourites. Great to see Atomic Rooster’s Death Walks Behind You, another of my favourites but have it categorised as ‘Rock’. So many many great albums.

Pallas cd The Sentinel is indeed a masterpiece from 1984. The artwork is actually by Patrick Woodroffe and not by Rodney Matthews. Woodroffe also did the Greenslade cd Time and Tide which is also great. Rodney Matthews is known for the artwork on the Asia cd Aqua.
@mvunit33 жыл бұрын
And Magnum ;) One of my fave Album Illustrators along with Roger Dean (who Rodney, gets mistaken for as well). I bought the debut Pallas album as a blind purchase, it was Patrick's art that had me buy it, I was NOT disappointed, one of my fave Prog Rock albums (was able to get the limited edition "Mini-Album CD" as well with the entire "Atlantis Suite"). I also own Greenslade's "Pentateuch of the Cosmogony" on Lp/Book that took decades to find at a long gone record store, and by _accident_ found the CD version about 12 years ago :). Sad note: Patrick died a "week" before H.R. Giger . . . rest in peace :(.

@@mvunit3 I have also in my lp collection David Greenslade his first album and the second one Pentateuch of the Cosmogony. Sad news about the passing away of Patrick Woodroffe and H.R. Giger. He is famous of the Emerson, Lake & Palmer album Brain Salad Surgery from 1973.

Origin of Symmetry getting some love! Wow, I'm impressed. I consider OoS their best album and top to bottom, their most 'prog', though they hit prog elements and some tracks in other releases, this is the album if you want a more prog-Muse.

What a show!!! Steven is my kind of guy. Anyone who has the guts of picking a Hogarth era album as his No. 1 pick is potential BFF material. Today FEAR is my no. 1 Marillion album. No worries, Clutching is my No. 2. Got the Royal Albert Hall Blu-ray and the studio vinyl. Looking forward to the post 90's show. I submit that the second golden era of prog began in the nineties and is still going strong today (The Absolute Universe anyone?).

Good video. Steven gave me things to check out I missed along the way with Fantasy and Pallas and Steven Wilson. Need to listen and get in music collection then. It was only a few years ago when I discovered Eloy which I missed and probably past in the 90's like Pete was pointing out could have been where I thought Genesis Yes King Crimson ELP etc and bands heard I grew up with still were going forward with material that didn't notice the other prog music I must hear and have. Cheers.

A great selection of essential albums from whichto expand and inspired choice having Steven Reid as co-captain. I dont have the Comus or Fantasy but both are on Spotify and Deezer so have streamed them. Fantasy sounds like the kind of really good prog album from a band in the last ten to twenty years referencing bands of the 70's - its a real shame I havent heard of them until now and that they never took off back in the 70's. Comus sounds like the bastard son of King Crimson and Jethro Tull with a hint of Bernard Lanzetti on vocals and while some of the music sounds quite lovely and very relaxing the lyrics are something else indeed - I mean where do you get the inspiration to write something like Drip Drip from! I doubt I'll add them to my collection but will definitely stream them both again. As for the are they arent they or is it or isnt it prog - if its great music does it matter? I think Tull are prog in the same way Rush are in that they didnt stick to one type of music for more than maybe a couple of albums. Muse are definitely prog to me. Nice to see the Alan Parsons Project album in there as well, as its a great album and also features as did a number of Alan Parson's output, one of my favourite British artists, John Miles on guitar and vocals. And if they and Supertramp are in there I do think that , even as an honourable mention, Barclay James Harvest should be there too - I'd pick Octoberon though you could also go to their first live album or Once Again - they lost a lot, if not all their proggyness after Wooly Wolstenholme left although they still produced some great music, as does John Lees' version of BJH today. As for Rick Wakeman - I agree that his output was patchy from 1984 up to the recent Red Planet - Return to the Centre of the Earth and Out There were pretty good though.

Great to see Discipline included. It's never sounded like progressive rock to me but I could care less. It's stunning.

Wishbone Ash - Argus 17. Marillion - Script For A Jester's Tear 18. Manfred Mann's Earth Band - Solar Fire 19. Hawkwind - Warrior On The Edge of Time (somehow less and less people consider Hawkwind as prog, such a shame) 20. Gryphon - Red Queen To Gryphon Three (now that's a progressive folk album!)
