Lyrics from Uncle Ted is ridiculously hilarious, but the guitar work is smoking awesome. Let us face it, it is the latter rather than the former that we groove to. Every video of Ted at home, shows him how much he opens his home with love and craziness. Any inhibitions you have, you'll loose them around Uncle Ted and you will become a better person. Uncle Ted is hated because we really would like to be like him, but can't. Sending a big heart out to Uncle Ted. Keep rocking it forever!!
@wolf19776 күн бұрын
..."because we really would like to be like him" - Uh NO! But the guitars are smokin', no question. That's not enough for me personally to elevate him to humanitarian of the century but enough to get me to listen to his 70's albums. Nothing after State Of Shock though. For me kinda like Elton John - after the 70's the magic was gone...

Martin I grew up in CT. and Ted Nugent was played several times a day on each of the 3 big FM rock stations from the mid 70s into the late 80s. By the time Double Live Gonzo was released in 78 every muscle car in the high school parking lots and every keg party on the weekend Nugent was being cranked up on the radio and 8 track tape decks. He was huge from 77 to 79. Everybody bought, Ted Nugent, Free for All, Cat scratch, Double Live Gonzo and Weekend Warriors albums, 8 tracks and cassettes. He always sold out the 10,000 seat New Haven Colosseum. If I recall, State of Shock went Gold and that was it for Ted until Damn Yankees. I also remember the rock stations playing Double Live Gonzo in its entirety late on Friday and Saturday nights. He and Kiss were massively popular in 77 and 78. In the summer of 78 Ted was the biggest grossing live act in the country. All these songs were played regularly on the radio, Stanglehold, Storm troopers, Hey Baby, Free for All, Dog eat Dog, Cat Scratch Fever, Great White Buffalo, Weekend Warriors, Smoke Screen, Wango Tango, Flying lip Lock, Bound and Gagged, Tied up in Love and Little Miss Dangerous. Recently, I heard Strangle Hold and Cat Scratch Fever on a couple stations.

I would say “Dog Eat Dog” is one of his best songs, not goofy at all. I will also admit, the “Land of 1000 Dances” cover is a guilty pleasure of mine, especially the music video. His band looks so cool in it. “Jailbait” definitely is one of his worst songs though, so creepy and cringy, and this is a man with daughters. Kinda funny that the same album had “I Am A Predator”, yea Ted we know haha. In fact, all “jailbait” songs are cringe, can’t deal with “Christine Sixteen” or Winger “Seventeen”, and as much as UFO is one of my fav bands, I’m rather disappointed in the lyrics to “Hot N Ready” for that reason. As for a goofy song I’d add “Kiss My Ass” from 1995’s Spirit of the Wild. Really goofy lyrics. It has a bit of a 90’s punk feel to it which is funny cuz punk isn’t supposed to be right wing. Also kinda ironic he says “Howard Stern, kiss my ass” but then 2 years later, he made a cameo in Private Parts and allowed “Cat Scratch Fever” on the soundtrack.

Are you saying most Americans are Anti-American? The polling proves that most Americans lean left on both social and economic issues. Mostly because we want to be able to have a well paying job that puts food on the table and clean air to breathe. We want to have the freedom to live as we wish(with no harm to others). The days of radio playlists still being controlled by the radio show's host instead of automated/computerized services (starting in the early 80's). I think today there are algorithm-controlled playlists being disseminated throughout the country by these automated services that can dictate what gets played most frequently (kinda like a national Spotify). Sure there are exceptions - especially at smaller stations (I think that's how you can get wild variations by location as to what gets played & becomes 'popular') - but radio airplay I think is now largely out of the hands of DJ's/program managers...Then again I haven't listened to commercial music radio in a long time. You know - only eating meat that he personally hunted/killed/gutted/cooked, total self-reliance, disdain for goverment/authority, amassing as many weapons as you can, etc. That kind of thing. A little window into Uncle Ted's psyche: He's given numerous interviews where he claimed to deliberately fail his (Vietnam) draft physical by deliberately soiling himself, but then later also claimed he made that up. Actual records do seem to show him getting a 4-F rating after running out of student deferments. 4-F is "reserved for those with significant medical or mental issues" - insert your own joke. He's also claimed to stand by everything he ever said, which clearly can't be true since he contradicted himself about his draft status. So what does he actually think/believe...?🤷♂ Seems to have 'lost something off his fastball' since the 2000's when he really started in with the politics & took his extreme views to new heights...Excellent guitar player, OK song writer (sometimes better), mediocre (or worse) singer. His handle “The Motor City Madman” seems to fit...

14:06 Don't feel bad about not liking that Gary Glitter song Martib, he's been extremely unlikable since the 90s in the UK and no one plays his music anymore. PC World were the unsung heroes of that decade. Ted Nugent isn't really a thing in the UK, he's had a few hits chart the top 100, catch scratch fever hit the bottom end of the top 20. From the looks of it he's toured the UK in the late 70s and early 80s but after that I think he's stuck with the American audience.

Lots of Nugent 'goofiness' to choose from...But more 'goofy' than many of the Zappa/Warrant ("Cherry Pie")/Whitesnake lyrics? Even some Zep tunes? Are we distinguishing 'goofy' from 'embarrassing'? I wouldn't feel comfortable playing just about any Zappa tune (with lyrics) to an elderly (or even younger) family member for instance...What about 'uncomfortable' lyrics made so because the singer actually believes them, instead of just singing the words? Nuge probably qualifies here - Black Sabbath/similar 'dark' bands not so much... Interesting that a self-proclaimed 'not a lyrics guy' (Pete - I'm not either TBH) is reading Nugent song lyrics...🤷♂General observation: If you're into The Nuge for the wonderful song prose then you've got problems. You're probably better off reading the words to Aerosmith's "Big Ten Inch Record" (but just a cover - to their credit they didn't actually write it) or The Who's "Squeeze Box"

All Ted Nugent songs are goofy. I think "hard rock" which started in the 70s didn't give a shit about lyrics because most of them were bad but for good lyrics you had to look to progressive rock bands like Rush and Pink Floyd. You werent gonna find it with Nugent, Kiss, Aerosmith, Boston, etc.

@@ericrobertson2024 This seem like a "relative" argument - comparing one band's lyrics with another for 'quality'. I think we're arguing over 'degrees of goofiness' here. If someone really wants some deep/meaningful song lyrics they're not gonna go to ANY of these bands for that. That's why we've got artists like Bob Dylan, The Kinks (for the British take on things), John Hyatt, Neil Young, The Who, Hendrix etc. And even they laid some eggs occasionally ("Squeeze Box")
