I somehow missed White Innocence from Catfish Rising...so, slot that into #14.

This was a great idea. I suggest doing the ranking for their best singles and/or unreleased tracks that appear on various compilations or reissues. Cheers

Tull is one of those bands I got into late in life and man am I loving it. Thank you to that DJ who used to play Thick as a Brick in its entirety on the radio when I was driving overnights.

Great episode and ranking Pete! Excluding TAAB I have to confess Baker St. Muse is my absolute favorite in the Tull catalog. What is impressive is that their catalog is so freaking amazing that a song like Budapest has 9 other songs above it… cheers!!!

My favorite epic length song by Jethro Tull is Thick as a Brick. It was parodied on The Simpsons when Martin Prince played the flute.

Roots to Branches (the album) is an all time Tull classic, but my personal favourite Tull epic is Budapest, absolutely stunning. Big shout out to for Pibroch (Cap In Hand) from SFTW and of course Minstrel In The Gallery

I have absolutely loved Jethro Tull since 1970 from this was all the way through heavy horses, and then after that, I digested a lot of jazz fusion and other Prague and later became a professional songwriter and lost track of Tull and Ian for a long time about 12 years ago, I got a 2CD anthology of all the great tall hits and I realize that there were many wonderful songs that I missed out on that came from those later albums that you’re talking about so yeah Ian and Jethro Tull remain one of my favorite British rock bands and probably will be till the day I die excellent and John Evan was quite brilliant on acoustic piano as well. I seen them in concert twice with him and he was just fabulous. Stay all OK Pete great great review of a great great freaking bands.

Thick as a Brick was my first Tull Concert in 1973 it was Amazing i saw them 9 times in total sadly the last one was Thick as a Brick 2 but it was only Ian Anderson, Martin Bar had left and he had new Band Members so in efect it was Ian Anderson's Jethro Tull it was still a good Gig but it was not the same without Martin

Great episode, Pete. NO BAND has a greater 12-album run than Jethro Tull... Stand Up (1969) Benefit (1970) Aqualung (1971) Thick as a Brick (1972) A Passion Play (1973) War Child (1974) Minstrel in the Gallery (1975) Too Old to Rock 'n' Roll: Too Young to Die! (1976) Songs from the Wood (1977) Heavy Horses (1978) Stormwatch (1979) A (1980) Ridiculous...
@rightchordleadership16 сағат бұрын
If you're going to include A, you need to include TBATB which is a superior album. So that's a 13-album run.

@ i'm 59. lifelong musician. my brother is 67. 'aqualung' was one of my bro's first albums when he was 14, and i was 6. he played it constantly. by the time i started playing gtr at 12, that was already an important record in our lives. 'songs from the wood' and 'heavy horses' became my faves in middle & high school. 'this was' is great, only not included because its missing barre. and 'broadsword' really is great, but i really dislike the production and keyboard sounds. makes it a difficult listen because of that, despite the great steven wilson remix. thats why i stopped there. (oddly, i absolutely love under wraps). agree with you, though. posted my tull reply, then thought about zappa, who i love, who has an insane personal favorite 23-album run from '72 'grand wazoo' thru '83 'man from utopia' :)))
@John-fc7wc4 сағат бұрын
I agree but I would remove A from your list and replace it with Living in the Past. I know it is a compilation album but it did have a bunch of good songs not found elsewhere.

Just letting you know from your reviews on Jethro Tull and their albums i took your advice as a newbie and thought i gotta check these guys out and listened to Aqualung amazing album! I remember seeing this album back in the day and always wanting to hear the whole album but for some reason never checked it out I'm definitely gonna check out the rest of their catalog! Thanks for recommending this band! Your show is awesome! Thanks again

I remember the fuss in the UK about Passion Play when it came out. The management concocted a story about JT giving up and of course the publicity did sales no harm. Yes had also just received a critical kicking for TFTO. The crtics are all forgotten but we still listen to the music.

Great list Pete. Tull is my favorite band and get a kick out of every episode you feature them. I would add the following to your list is Old Aces Die Hard (from 40th anniversary edition of Songs from the Wood, Critique Oblique (from Nightcap) and The Chateau D'Isaster Tapes: Scenario/Audition/No Rehearsal (from 20 years of Jethro Tull). My top 10 Tull epics are: 1 The Passion Play 2 Thick as a Brick 3. Baker St. Muse 4 Old Aces Die Hard 5. My God 6. Chateau D'Isaster Tapes: Scenario/Audition/No Rehearsal 7. Heavy Horses 8. Pibroch 9 Minstrel in the Gallery 10 Budapest

Can't argue with any of your choices or order. I might have let Passion Play slide lower, it never caught me at all. Back in 1972, I remember being a 17 year old kid running home with Thick as a Brick being astonished by it and going through that newspaper cover to cover wondering what it was all about.

Yeah Crystal and Dave one for Hard Rock. the category was Heavy Metal/ Hard Rock. The truth is Metallica is not a hard rock band they're heavy metal band they should not even have been in the category Tull is a hard rock band and deserved to win. The bottom line since it's covered two categories it was whichever was the best and tolls crest of a knave was better than Metallica's whatever, I forgot what their album was. Speaking of Baker Street Muse that's probably my favorite long track but do you know of any reason why they never played any of it live or if they ever did ?
@seaoftranquilityprog4 сағат бұрын
Metallica's And Justice for All should have one...plus, the Grammy win was in 1989, and Crest came out in 1987. Epic fail. Crest is a great album, but it should not have even been in the picture.
