Paul, thank you for this review. Just got the Pro version and set up a custom search similar to yours. Now with the Elementor plugin, the setup is even simler than what you had to do (no need for that extra shortcode above the posts). However, I see a couple of little problems with the plugin. First, let me mention that I am not a coder, just a marketing guy who knows enough HTML/ CSS to cause trouble. ) So, whatever filter you select, it modifies the page URL by adding a corresponding string value to it. If you hit page reload, it does not take you to the original search page, but obviously reloads the URL with all those added strings. In other words, it does not "forget" the filter selections on page reload. Also, there does not seem to be an option within the Search & Filter plugin to add "Clear filters" or "Reset Filters" commands. This makes using the form a bit awkward. I took a quick look at their Documentation page, but could not find a solution. Currently, my only idea to get around this issue is to add a simple "Reset Form" link that points back to the original search page URL, thus manually removing the strings added by the selected options. But I wish there was a sleeker way to handle this with AJAX. Ideally, the search page URL does not change when selections are made and there is a form reset command included in the widget. Do you think this is doable?

I have a love/hate relationship with Search & Filter Pro. I've been using it for almost a year and, at first, I really didn't get it at all - it seemed way too complex and clunky to use with Elementor. However, having tried Jet Smart Filters and other solutions, I always end up back with Search & Filter Pro. Why? Because once you understand how it works, it is so incredibly flexible. For example, I use it on a couple of events listing sites and, one of the things that sets this apart is that it can work on the default sort order of the archive, in this case, an Ele Custom Skin Loop and so it's simple to set up rules like display only events with a date later than today, default sort on an ACF field event_start_date and a secondary sort order of event_title. All this it does on page load - something which Jet Smart Filters cannot seem to do - and that maybe a good reason for using the shortcode approach? My message is don't be put off by the complexity, the documentation is extensive and the answers are there somewhere, just take the time to use it. Talking of documentation, if using Elementor (and why wouldn't you?) do read the page on that specific topic, it could have you a lot of time and frustration.

Well said. Hopefully, I conveyed a similar message in the video. It's pretty daunting when you look at it and there are a LOT of options and settings, but if you take your time to work through things and use the docs when necessary (especially the Elementor part) then you can get pretty good results with it. It would be great to see them invest into the UI/UX as I feel that adds a lot of unnecessary confusion to the whole setup. So many options and many are not even required (see the last filter in the video - 3 tabs and only 1 required for the specific filter type being used). Thanks for the input Nigel. Always good to get real-world feedback from users.

I have it working but it looks like it should be possible to create a filter to say "show only events starting today" but I just cannot get that to work. If you're up to the challenge and have the time, I think we'd both appreciate your input!

THX Nigel, good info! - Same for me I tried Jet (not really working with ACF) - FacetWP support takes days and do want to go for S&F Pro - right now only thing thats giving me hard times is loading images after filtering. Same for FacetWP an S&F Pro. It is working with standard elementor loops but not with ele custom loops - images just dont load. So it is either ACF or ELE thats is causing sort of lazy loading or some script I cant figure out. Any suggestions or did you face the same issue and got an idea to solve it? Would be really helpful. - p.s. using ajax of course - without it is working fine!

This video still works mostly - the only thing I had to do differently was to put the [searchandfilter id="246" action="filter_next_query"] code into a short code widget rather than a text box. Even though there has been an update since this video, I found this method worked better than the new custom filter widget.

Hello, i'm using search & filter pro plugin and it's working great, but i have a question. I think it's a simple thing to do, but I'm not getting it. I live in Brazil and I'm using the ACF for a state and one for a city, we have 27 states (Brazil) with several cities. The page that I am using the filter has the state field and the city field related to a doctor, that are coming from the [Post Meta] configuration, everything is working, but I want the possibility of having a condition to display the city. Example: I just want the city selector appears in the UI when the user selects the state. When he selects: state -> (São Paulo [SP]) it loads and displays all cities from state of São Paulo. I hope you can help me.

The key benefit of using a theme like GeneratePress is you get more functions inside the theme customiser and additional widgets, functions, etc., throughout the theme. Things like Hooks, etc. However, if you don't intend to use those, using a theme like Hello for Elementor removes all that extra code and unwanted 'stuff' and gives you a basic platform for you to build your own design from scratch with Elementor Pro and the Theme Building functions it offers. I would say it depends on the project, the requirements and if a commercial project, the budget. I hope that helps?

I am definitely tempted to switch. I’m guessing from the in depth documentation that their support will probably be better than FacetWP, which is the lowest bar possible. There are several things about FacetWP that bug me and it seems like at least a couple aren’t present in S&F Pro. I’m planning a major redesign of my site soon and may at least give it a try. One question I have is can you have multiple filter groups on the same page? One of the only advantages I see right away for FacetWP is that by using individual short codes you can move them around more easily. You aren’t limited to just the standard filer on the side setup. Unless there’s a relatively simple way to adjust that with S&F Pro it would my redesign even more major.

I think you can have multiple filters on a page but I don't know if they would interact with each other or if the potential for multiple query strings would cause an issue.

I published some posts under newly created custom (post)-taxonomies and my website displays them on "most recent posts" which is great. However when i search for the taxonomie in my search bar: my website cant find anything. They will not show up on my search result page. Do you know how to solve this? Back end: CSV file Front end: Single field search box I want to create a searchable database with a single field search box. Database is a CSV which has a list of products with unique ID codes. User types in the ID code and the result displays ONLY that item. * The database must not be viewable or scrollable. * Results only shown after ID code is inserted.

Hi, When I filter my taxonomies, the results vanish.. if i refresh the page, the filtered results appear but if im using ajax, the filters just vanish. In Search & Filter's documentation for Elementor/Anywhere Elementor extension they don't state that along with configuring the Elementor/Anywhere Elementor Post widget you still need to add the [searchandfilter id=""] Shortcode to the page. I hope this helps others.

Another really good tutorial, but even with its help I can’t get this to work. Probably because I am using an ele custom skin loop, which is not supported by s&f, but also because it just seems to speak a different language to me. Think I’d rather pay more for a friendlier experience and some handholding.

Styling the filter, css, itself is horror. Also only one form possible in the sidebar or widget of the page. I need to have the filter on the right and one small on top. example. on the right filter by category, on top right of page filter by popularity. Tons of websites are doing it this way. Anyone any idea which filter they are using? I also heard some people are waiting for years on a promised upgrade to v3.

Just taking a second look and the Elementor plugin is simply to replace the original way of adding it into the page with the shortcode (not the search shortcode, but the activation code used in this video). Apart from that and a slight change of settings, there's no difference. I will be updating this tutorial though to reflect the updated method.

There is a new plugin to download called Search & Filter Elementor. Please log into your Pro account on Search & Filter Pro, click on Documentation, From the right hand side click on Elementor Pro and Download link will be on top of Elementor Pro Documentation page. Hope this helps.

Great video. I wonder if anyone can help. I have been designing websites for several years and currently thinking of moving my site to a DIVI and rebuilding them. I would like to add more functionality and a drop-down menu (form) linked to tags and categories which directs the search to a specific page or post. The following site has the exact functionality I am looking for @t The form is found over a cover image at the top of the page under Find your perfect entertainment. I know this site is build using @t but i was sure this would be possible on WordPress. I've been searching for days but found no plugins or even topics of how this might be achieved. From my point of view, this is a great alternative if you are looking for something cheaper and effective at the same time. If you have the money, get search wp and facet wp, each of them $99, so basically $200 for both. But with search and filter pro, $20 dollars. So which one would you choose?

The lack of custom styling is simply said the worst thing i have ever experienced. This lacks so much for the fact they offer a Elementor Addon, which just adds a Widget instead of a shortcode to paste. This is unbelievable
