This song...is Hope: this is the characters each experiencing their own trials and tribulations and eventually coming to a resolution: Terra learning what love is by having the strength to fight for the orphans of Mobliz; Locke finally being set free of his guilt over losing Rachel and owning his feelings for Celes, who in turn comes to realize she isn't truly alone in the world; Cyan overcoming the loss of his family and liege and becoming a stronger person while still retaining the memory of their love and respect; Setzer taking the chance to allow himself to figuratively and literally find himself a pair of wings to fly bestowed upon him from a dearly departed friend; Strago and Relm, who each lose hope or struggle to find new hope respectively, being reunited; Mog, the last Moogle of Narshe, choosing to help take on the maniac responsible. I could go on and on, but we'd be here all day if I did... The point being: This song is rekindling the flame within to help brighten a now darkened world in desperate need, this is you picking up the pieces and fixing what Kefka destroyed. I love this song so much, it IS Final Fantasy 6 encapsulated in song form.

The world has been scorched into a barren landscape, you've lost everyone, not knowing if they're alive or dead, Cid, your closest thing to a father, might have also just died if you're bad at catching fish, you brave the harsh sea on a raft to get to mainland, only to find Kefka's tower looming above the horizon. The monument to your failures. Then you find Sabin and save a boy from a burning house, as the flames die out a small spark of hope finds it way into your heart. You find Terra, but she doesn't join you, her fight is for a group of children now with no one else to protect them. She feels powerless, having been unable to prevent the world's ruin. But maybe here she has some control. Then you see Edgar, except he pretends to not know you or his brother. You follow him as he breaks into his own castle. You fend off a monster with him and stop anyone else from getting hurt. The brothers reunite, and that spark of hope grows to a flame. Then in a pub you find Setzer. The four of you enter into a tomb, the tomb dedicated to his lover. As it progresses you learn of Setzer's loss, his pain, the same trauma that each of your fellow adventurers share. Pain and loss, no control, fighting to retain a piece of their former selves in the present. This is a harsh world, where people hurt each other and evil has won. Then Setzer recounts the determination of his lost love, her spirit, and you are filled with a solemn inspiration. The flame becomes a fire, and as the minor scale notes begin to ascend, you feel the pain in each note, you feel the hope in each interval. And the airship ascends with those notes. The visual of hope and freedom, without discounting the pain and loss. It's time to find your friends. It's time to make the world right. It's time for good to prevail.

Last year I streamed my entire playthrough of this amazing remaster on Kick and just being able to share this experience all over again, hearing the new music was just a joy. Sharing my heart about how much this game had such an impact on my life, including how much the SNES really helped me share these experiences with friends growing up. This game along with Chrono Trigger really left such a mark on my life and reminded me of some of the happiest moments in my childhood. Even as an adult you really begin to empathize in some context, with what each character goes through in these games. Sure a work of fiction can tell a great story but the narrative that you can compare as a mature adult, can make you even connect deeper with it's story. You never think about it as a kid until you grow up and even then, replaying it can really be rewarding. 😃

When I played the Pixel Remaster I made sure not to listen to a SECOND of any of the soundtrack because, as this is my favorite game of all time, I wanted everything to come to me naturally. This is and will always be my favorite song in this game. So when I got to the cutscene where you first hear it I just let it play. I didn’t do anything other than follow the bird. I sat there and listened to it as it went on, and all the instruments joined in. I was in awe. I cried for the second and final time in my play through, the first being the opera scene. Happy 30th anniversary FFVI. I’ll be replaying you next month on my Original Cart when you officially turn 30. Even though I’ve only been alive for 20 of the years this game has existed, I’m eagerly awaiting 30 more years, and every time I go searching for friends.

Oh no, the soul of this song is the bass, give it back!
I have a bit of a love/dislike relationship with this piece. It's an absolutely beautiful piece of music and did an amazing job of taking the original (which was incredible in its own right, despite being 16 bit) and turning it into something really special. I was awe inspired the first time I heard it. However, it fails at one of the key components of video game music. It has to be able to be listened to on repeat. Nobuo Uematsu was a genius with this, as he could create beautiful pieces of music that could be heard on repeat without getting old or grating. This fails that by having that big bombastic crescendo at the end. It's absolutely wonderful on the first listen or two, but gets really really old after grinding on the world map for hours when you're actually playing the game. None of the other themes had this problem in this or any of the other remaster games, but this one has got me to the point that I either want to put the game on mute, or switch it back to the original 16 bit version.

this is one of those songs that i adore the first couple of times hearing it, but quickly grow sick of how often i have to hear the intro play between every transition while flying around the map. it's one of those songs that makes me wish more songs didn't constantly start over from the top every time they change to a different song like for battles. in fact i kinda wish all the battle themes in all these games did likewise. you have to have a REALLY good intro to not make it get tiring to hear over and over and over and over and over and over
@benjaminpenaguin29963 ай бұрын
This version is beautiful, superbly done. I still prefer the snes version, as it's more simple and minimalist in terms of orchestration, and it conveys a more intimate feeling of hope. There's hope but no grandeur, still, in this world of ruin. There is so much to do, starting with comforting each other and moving forth despite the struggles. Also the 'mechanical' drums make it so cool, I imagine it to be the falcon engine's noises that, in a way, is the conductor/vehicle of this new-found hope/theme (which it is). So the original fits extremely well. It's just wonderful.

This is one of the few songs where I actually prefer the older version to the Pixel Remaster orchestration. @@mcihay246 Normally I would agree with that, but in this case it actually isn't nostalgia for me! I didn't play FF6 until like last year, shortly before the Pixel Remasters came out. I feel no nostalgia for any Final Fantasy game, as I'm a relatively new fan and still in those days where I'm experiencing many of the games for the first time.
