Searching for the 100 Foot Wave | NAZARÉ PORTUGAL

We loved Nazaré and were blown away by its natural beauty! Another video will be coming soon to show what else there is to see there! The power and energy of the surf there is immense. We really recommend watching the HBO documentary THE 100 FOOT WAVE to see what these Big Waves surfers face when the storm swells roll in. We didn't see anything of those proportions this time but we are excited to be going back to Nazaré to house sit in January for 2 months, so hopefully we'll have a great opportunity to see some epic waves then. I heard that in January and February you’re most likely to see higher waves. You’re right it’s so powerful !

@@Nadelina_kb It's possible but it can happen anytime between now and March. We'll be house sitting there from end January to March so hopefully can catch some big wave action around then. 😊

Great video! We were just there during the 30ft waves. It just doesn't translate on video until you see how small the surfers are.

We've watched The 100 Foot Wave twice now, and couldn't believe how busy Praia da Nazaré was in summer! So many less people in winter, but you get those amazing waves on Praia do Norte, so it's well worth a winter visit! ~ Mandy

Awe, loved it!! I thoroughly enjoyed Nazaré... walking around the beach and town and then up to Sitio. I was fortunate to see some massive waves up at Praia Norté. I have some terrific footage and photos (hmmmm, maybe I should upload it to YT). The sunset on those big waves, was amazing!! Nazaré is a must see for many reasons!!

Totally agree with you, Jen that Nazaré is a must see in Portugal. Yet another incredible place this country has to offer. Glad you got to see some big waves and got some good shots there. Thank you for this amazing video about Nazaré: I was a teacher there some years ago and I lived in the village for almost a year. Nazaré is a very well known place in Portugal with very interessing places to explore, like the beach and some monuments, like Nossa Senhora da Nazaré shrine. Nossa Senhora da Nazaré (Our Lady of Nazaré) was the most important religious place in Portugal from XII until Fatima aparitions in XX century. I wish you a nice stay in Nazaré. Cheers!

It seems a nice, traditional fishing town that has grown big and we loved the fact that many women still ear traditional clothing. Watched "100 Foot Wave" and the surfers' death-defying feats. Fantastic views from O Sitio! Nazare is mesmerizing! We were there but seems we didn't use our time wisely that day. TY for showing us what we missed!

You are most welcome. Mesmerising is a great way to describe the surf there. I could sit all day and watch it pounding the cliffs. Add some world class surfing action and you have a very entertaining show. Then there is the magical setting with the fort and the lighthouse! Love it all! 😍

The surf photo exhibition in the fort museum is really incredible. It gives you a great perspective on how big those waves can really get. It was hard to capture them with the light. Such an amazing place! 👍 ~ Lee

Cheers Steve. Not in a million years would I get out there. That's purely for the pros. They've called the WSL tow challenge this Sunday/Monday as up to 60ft swells are forecast. We'll miss it as are house sitting on a farm miles away. I'm pretty gutted we'll miss seeing the world stars in action but we are coming back to house sit here in January so hope to see some XXL surf action then. 🤞🤞

The waves from the video in that surf museum looked INSANE! My heart was racing just looking at it! Good tip about the loos - we hate getting caught out😅 Having big time remorse about not coming to Portugal right now - we were in Lisbon airport last week, but only on layover. The flights to Spain from the US were cheaper, so we skipped Portugal this time around. Definitely keen to get there one day though!

Amazing stuff! Thanks for uploading all the shots inside the museum. Did you notice if the center of Koxa and McNamara's boards were inlaid with strips of cork? That wouldn't have occurred to me until I noticed the Amorim decals on McNamara's board. Amorim is big cork. and at first glance I assumed they were simply a sponsor. Fitting, if the cork is the talisman for champion surfers in Nazare. Magical stuff, cork, and also fitting that Koxa holds the record as a Brazilian in the motherland.

Glad you enjoyed the museum as much as we did. It's a great insight into the world of these crazy and brave wave riders. I didn't notice cork in the boards but I would see the logic in it. I've heard from local surfers that you need to be able to hold your breath underwater for over 2 minutes when those waves hold you down. Such is their power. I'm in awe of these legends and I'm hoping to see some of them in action on some XXXL waves as we'll be back in Nazaré for February and March. 🤞 We can catch some on camera.
