The Ferry Boat is about 5 minutes drive from me. Is it the oldest? Probably the oldest building still used as a pub, but was it continuous? For example, if I stuck a bar in the middle of Avebury, would that make it the oldest? Also, I know the Fighting Cocks well, and just a few hundred yards from there is the Six Bells. Now that was built on the site of a Roman Inn, some of which is incorporated in the current building, does that make it the oldest? I suppose it depends on how careful you read the wording of the claim?

A little disingenuous, as there's a Inn in Japan than dates to the 6th century, and has been continuous operation that whole time, almost 1500 years, which makes it by far the worlds oldest bar, as well being a contender for being the oldest registered business of any kind in the world as they still have their official ascent documents from the time of founding.... the other being a Bathhouse in Japan that dates to around the same time... though so far seemingly slightly older of the two. Additionally, there's a small Kro... or Pub.... just outside of Jyderup, Sjaelland, Denmark that dates to the...... 1130s...iirc..., in terms of it's current operation... now why does this make it also a contender... well Sean's is built on the remains of a 10th century Pub, and part of the old building still exists, but the physical pub itself is NOT that old.... likewise... the Danish contender, is also OLDER, it is just the current building, mostly, well parts of it, save for parts of the cellar which are older, which date to that time... the Pub itself has been there since the late 600s... at the least. Thus there's at LEAST two public drinking houses... or Pubs.. that are at least 200+ years older than Sean's and 400 than the English offerings. What you have here, is the oldest Pubs in the Ireland and Uk... which is still pretty good.... but this is a bit misleading a title.

The Danish Inn I spoke of is predominantly a food and drinks service provider, the bar and restaurant are bigger parts of the business than the rooms. Thus, both are public bars, which means they're the same as Sean's, just calling it a pub as opposed to a kro, is irrelevant. Are there other businesses which might use another name, but do the same thing? Yes. Are there older ones than Sean's? Yes. Would we consider these operations pubs? Actually, legally, in many jurisdictions YES, they'd be considered such for licensing and regulatory purposes. If this video was about the oldest public drinking bar called a Pub, then yeah, Sean's would be the oldest..... ....but it's not. It's supposedly about the world's oldest Pub, so it should be about the Kro in Jydderup, Denmark, or that wayfarer hostel in Japan, which both operate public houses, aka a pub, bars as part of their operation, and both date back to at least the 8th Century.
