In India, where we eat the actual curry most of the time, we don't add flour to thicken the curry. It's just plain water infused with spices and vegetables. It's like a ramen broth to us. It's only in restaurants where they add flour to thicken the curry, mostly in Japanese curry.
@honeybeemoo16 күн бұрын
Exactly what I wanted to say. The soup is typically thickened by boiling it for a long time. Some curry broths, like chicken or mutton, thicken naturally after cooling down, especially in winter

Exactly, when he said it wasn't like curry but also not soup, I was just thinking that to me this is the most curry-like thing I've seen in Japan (according to my standard of curry) That being said I've tried Japanese curry and it was good but it honestly reminds me of a stew my mum would make.

I see you don't know italians or Japanese. I live in Italy and Italians are plenty experimental with their food, but in a way that doesn't bastardize it. I also have had lunch with a Japanese friend at a "Japanese" restaurant outside of Japan where she looked at a sushi roll with friend shrimp, cream cheese, and a strawberry on top and said "It makes me kind of sad that people will come here and think this is authentic Japanese food." with a hint of sadness in her voice. The only real difference is you don't have a bunch of people online uploading recipes for that sushi abomination and claimin it's authentic Japanese food, whereas you have a TON of people online claiming to upload "authentic" Italian recipes when they are anything but. Sorry this got a little long.

I don’t think anyone from the mentioned countries has problems with experimentation as long it’s not labelled “authentic/traditional/original” when it’s not. And curry was not created in Japan so this isn’t really food experimentation, if anything this recipe is closer to “authentic curry” than thickened Japanese curry.

Wait are curry places known to be hateful to solo women? Is this like a social shaming thing? Is this like a harassment or assault thing? What is the root cause of needing a place where you hire all women aside from that working environment likely being really nice for those women I would imagine? Like I’m just confused as I see women dining alone in Tokyo.

I'm not sure it would even count as curry but... I didn't use flour either. I refer to it as curry because the majority of the flavor stems from curry paste and curry powder and I know that's probably inaccurate but ffs it's a self invented dish for a broke college student to store in the deep freezer to live off for weeks. So anyhow, curypaste added large amounts of kokonut milk (like the one they sell in those bean containers) and cooked sweet potato in that instead of water. Added the white flowery not-brokkoli, and the yellow thing that makes popcorn (forgive me, I can't be bothered to look up english right now, not my native language) and maybe some carrots, don't remember. Seasoned with curry pulver and some broth cubes and salt or smth. The sweet potatoes half mushed in the freezer and it was very filling and ez and fit with anything basically so 1000/10 recommend if you're the type of person like me who always forgets they have to plan meals ahead and has trouble with making good veggies. This is perfect for just... frie smth or not and eat rice with it.
