One because if a firearm is confiscated during a crime, or an investigation that has to be taken to evidence and locked up. If its not then the officer who took the firearm will get in trouble. Now for the second thing, it can become a liability issue to the department who auctioned off the car if the weapon is used in a crime or an accident. So long story short, no you will never find a firearm in a decommissioned police vehicle that has been sold at auction
