For me,I sometimes don't connect to a vpn to connect to tor because your connection literally go to three servers changing your ip to the ip you connected to the three servers and if a hacker/government knows what vpn you use they can just ask,(hack or know your info) the vpn provider you connected for your real location,but it depends for the searches or what websites you use Fun fact I use tor as my daily browser:)
