When I first saw the movie a few weeks ago I thought it was lesser Wes Anderson, but since then I’ve found myself thinking about it quite a bit. I think the episodic structure really works and every part offers something pretty interesting. If anything, I’d like every segment to have been their own movie. I think this movie is going to age well.

Fox Searchlight Pictures should do more animated films in general. We got Waking Life, Fantastic Mr. Fox and Isle of Dogs but other than them, we only have some early Miyazaki films (dubbed by Fox Searchlight Pictures before Disney did redubs and the films are now with GKIDS with the Disney redubs), AKIRA (dubbed by Fox Searchlight Pictures before Pioneer/Geneon redubbed the film and now FUNimation has the film with both Fox and Pioneer dubs), and everything Dragon Ball (partnered with FUNimation, Toei Animation and Fuji Television Network). I would also love Fox Searchlight making the jump to television, because the only TV series they have are again, everything Dragon Ball (again, partnered with FUNimation, Toei Animation and Fuji Television Network), and series by Elizabeth Meriwether like New Girl and Bless this Mess.

And as I said, I also wanna see them jump to television and they will soon. Previously, the only TV series they had were Elizabeth Meriwether’s creations and Dragon Ball. If Fox Searchlight needs a mascot that encompasses their quirky, indie image, it would be Summer from (500) Days of Summer, but their most popular and long-lasting character would be Goku.
