How would the Queen and Royal family fit in with the concept of status function? She has her status and position based solely upon DNA and heredity.

+jeff gumz Not solely upon DNA and heredity. If that were the case, then the closest living descendant of the last king of France would be the current king of France. But he's not, because that status function no longer exists. The Queen of England was chosen by heredity, but heredity doesn't give her sovereign powers. It's the collective intentionality of the rest of society that does that. If we all change our minds and create an English republic, she'll stop being queen regardless of her DNA.

Being an alpha-dog is a function, assigned to a particular dog. This function exists in minds of other dogs. The way the dog gets to be an alpha-dog is different from election of president of USA. However, in all other human societies a leader comes to become a leader in some other, not American way. So, ether he has to admit that dogs have these assigned functions too, or only Americans have, and other human societies do not.

alpha also doesn't equate to violence with humans, you can be peacefully elected alpha
