Just did the project today. Cut out bar pieces, went to ACE HARDWARE and bought four 5 1/2" bolts. Reused the nuts, washers, and spacers. Total cost was $18 & change! Oh, used grade 8 bolts all they had. Thanks for the GREAT VIDEO!👍

Kudos, saved a bundle with Jack mod. For me, had to use 6" bolts and 1/2" spacers for total of 20" across in order to fit. Also slipped 1/4" hard rubber pads under each side of front frame otherwise the jack pad would pinch the clutch cable that is routed under the engine. Wasn't sure if this would have been a problem but plenty of space for the pads when the jack was bottomed out.

I wish I would have seen this video before I bought the aluminum yellow jack I actually bought it change the clutch and remove the transmission on my wrangler but then I ended up buy in a Yamaha Raptor and the yellow jack was great for that now that I own a 2001 Wide Glide I ended up rolling the bikes rear tire up on a 2x4 to even fit the jack underneath and then once it was up it was not sturdy at all a friend told me I need to buy adapters but was looking into other solutions and came across your video now I might look into finding a used one of these on craigslist or sell mine and buy a new red one anyway I really apreciate this video was extremely helpful.

Did you see the first video. It's a little more in depth on how I modified the jack. If you have the extra coin, the J&S jack is top notch, made in the USA. That's how I came up with this mod because I couldn't afford the J&S. :)

Can't say as I've never had a reason to lift a bike to change the oil. Usually do it while the bike is on the kickstand. As for your other comment about the yellow jack, I don't think it will work just based on the design of the yellow jack.

My advice would be to strap it down. If it were me, I would determine whether or not I'm strapping it down based on what I was doing. Such as if I was removing a large amount of weight from one end or the other. Hope that helps.

Hey Vic, I agree with you wholeheartedly, it's not rocket science. Everyone is aware that you are not either a scientist, nor an astronaut! Maybe you are, who knows, you very well could be. Anyhow... Only one thing I had a concern about with the mod, was the horizontal sway stability since you removed that, what appeared to be a brace. It seemed stable though while I watched the video. I am sure that if you'd have found it to be unsteady, you would have posted another video stating as such. Thanks for sharing the knowledge with the video posting. It unquestionably can save others hundreds from being wasted on a different jack. Great job. Ride safe.
@scvic200610 жыл бұрын
No, I'm not a scientist. lol Hopefully you watched the first video. This was just a frustrated response to a lot of forum responses where I had originally posted the video. To be honest, I haven't noticed any issue with horizontal sway. The only thing I make sure to do is tighten the safety stabilizers. That's when the whole thing really gets rigid. If I were to remove any major weight off the front or the rear, I make sure to secure the bike to the lift with a ratchet strap or two. I also only lift the bike as high I need. A friend of mine had his bike fully lifted on a similarly modded sears jack during the quake that hit D.C. several years ago. I recall it was in the high 5's on the richter scale. The bike never moved.

Vic, I modified my Red craftsman jack just like you did but I noticed that the pump does not go down at all. However if I stand on the rails it goes down but I have to force her. Sorry to ask but if I have my bike on the jack it should it go down as it suppose to go without me forcing it??? I know prior to modifying the jack the hydraulic pump when its release from the top comes down hard and fast. It makes me nervous..

Did my neck bearings and tires on my dresser with this jack ($79 on sale) the best bang for the buck. had the Torin lift (from Sam's club) what a piece of Shit lifted the bike 6 inches of the floor and just put my finger on the seat and wanted to come off the lift .. but yes you are very right you can't jack from kickstand side they are not meant for that. if you watch J&S jacks vid they always do it from opposite side just makes sense so you don't have to hold the bike while jacking it up and letting it down

@scvic20069 жыл бұрын
No Jim, my bike is a wideglide. The mod does not alter the clearance needed. You may need to roll either front or rear tire onto a 2x4/6/or whatever to raise the bike a bit. I'm not sure what the ground clearance is on a fxdl. You could also try turning the shocks to their stiffest setting. It'll raise the bike slightly.
@tbublz9 жыл бұрын
Why yes I do have a question thanks for asking! When this jack is in the jacked up position with bike on are there locks to hold that position should the piston fail half way through winter. I'm storing out doors in a shed condition that's why I need to know. Incidently if you go to Harbour freight they have this in 2 models 1 lower to the ground no 2x4 needed for HD cruisers. Their model runs 69 dollars and you can add on an extended 2 year warranty If anything breaks they'll replace it for an extra $20.

I got a 2016 street bob and that jack won't work on that bike. You need a jack where the front bar is recessed from the wheels otherwise the lifting pads won't make contact with the frame on the left side of the bike.

Donald Joseph Wood what’s different about the ‘16 vs the other dynas? It hits the kickstand?
@sluggomagoo6 жыл бұрын
Sorry VIC. If I had another bike I could tell you but I don't. All I know is the stand gets in the way. My only option is to put up the stand or park it in a wheel chock. Take a look at the S & J and you will see how the bar is recessed from the front wheels of the stand.

I'm not sure I agree with your last statement at this time. I'd have to see them side by side. I've had people message me saying the modded jack wouldn't work on a 2012 dyna fat bob. I happened to have access to one at the time and as I suspected the person who said they couldn't get it to work on that model and year was full of something. Now, that only really matters with regards to the craftsman jack. I can't vouch for "similiar" brands.
