I had a professor who asked me to think about why a "crime of passion" could be used as a legal defense but an "honor killing" could not. Most killings between domestic partners are premeditated but we generally accept jealousy and wounded pride/honor as mitigating factors in murder. Nathan's murders we premeditated and were fuelled by fantasies of restoring his honor. However, rewarding explosively (impulsively) violent people with reduced sentences also sits wrong with me.
@maggielong70703 жыл бұрын
I agree. Hair triggered tempers seem potentially just as dangerous as meticulous plans.
@MusicLeeSarah3 жыл бұрын
@@maggielong7070 okay on a follow-up to that though, what about the killer that is in a domestic partnership and has plotted their partner's death like they've thought about it. they've repeatedly got extremely livid with them for whatever reason, and have just sat there and stewed and thought about how they would go about killing their partner.. but they don't do it. Until they do. And when they do it's done impulsively and with unbridled emotion. But yet the manner of the murder is the same as they had thought it out in their head previously? So I post a question to I guess who's ever reading this; would that kind of murderer be considered impulsive with a hair trigger temper or premeditated? Or both?... if that's possible. And then throwing that kind of murderer into the mix, who is more dangerous? Or are they all equally dangerous

There's a thing that can happen during messy divorces where one or both parents will pit the kids against the other spouse. Nathan has a documented history of physical abuse, I would _not_ put it past him to have manipulated the boy into saying that by claiming "you'll never get to see me else-wise." I would agree with you about Taylor Jr. although continuing to support such dangerous and erratic behavior even after numerous murderous comments gives me some pause. To say that the only person to blame is Nathan is a bit disingenuous. There is always more to the story. The fact that the son called the police and lied about his grandfather threatening him with a gun shows severe mental and emotional issues coupled with an intense impulsive control problem well above what would be considered average for his age. It seems more likely that the choice to consistently participate in irresponsible, immature, and irrational actions beginning with willfully staying in an openly unhealthy relationship and then pushing that relationship far beyond its breaking point in continuing to bring more children into an already bad situation. Then continuing to make those horrible decisions for well over a decade is what brought them to all to have to deal with the repercussions of such a lifestyle.

Yep. Like dude she left you and took the kids. A lot of men (I didn’t say all men before I get a ton a responses from men angry with me as though my comment did in fact say all men. I probably will still get some angry responses even though I put this disclaimer) want to be fathers when it’s convenient for them and she was allowing him to live that life and have the kids every other weekend and be single again so that he could find a partner that he clicked with instead of a one that he didn’t want to come home to. I’ll never understand it. Like, dude what are you so upset about? Wife doesn’t mean possession and I really believe he thought she belonged to him and how dare she be unhappy and decide to leave. In every divorce that I have ever seen personally from friends and family it’s always been the husband who took the divorce the hardest…even when he cheated multiple times and pushed the wife past her breaking point for what she will accept, the husband is the one who feels wronged and also behaves like he’s the one being treated unfairly and like he just cannot live life anymore without being married. I always find that funny because this has usually happened to my friends after she’s spent several years basically begging the guy to get married and he never seemed like he really was ready but he knew that if he didn’t go through with it she’d break up with him and move on. Then after they get married he cheats multiple times because…he really wasn’t ready to get married as evidenced by it taking him several years to propose as I said earlier and only did it because he knew she’d dump him. Then as I said after giving him several opportunities to stop cheating she decides that it’s time to get a divorce and he totally comes unglued because in his mind she is supposed to endure whatever he threw at her. Just something I will never understand. And again before any men get upset at what I’m saying I am only talking about what I have witnessed from my friends and acquaintances from college and the men were not the only ones cheating. One of my guy friends went on a business trip and came home early and didn’t tell his wife because he truly thought he was going to surprise her but when he walked in the door he found her I bed with his best friend. He is a demon. That is why it is so important for people to study the words of Jesus and OBEY. He said by their fruits (actions/behavior) you shall know them and out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks. Folks start saying all manners of foolishness out of their mouth and then start doing little malicious nasty things: that is the beginning. Love is patient and kind and even when you are angered, LOVE allows you to forgive and walk away. He NEVER loved her. He always hated her and the children and was jealous that she had parents that loved her. He didn't grow up with that, so that is the first ones he went for. He knew he had to kill her Daddy in order to get back there in that room with her. He is a demon. God Bless you dear.

I don't know what your laws are, but here in Australia 15 is a minor - so legally, at minimum, that's statutory rape!? Sadly, she was a baby, having babies, but she seems like a pretty good mum, and in NO way brought this on herself. She left when he started on the kids, and thought she was doing the right thing by leaving, but still allowing him to be a parent - that's not stupid, that's trying to be a fair parent, and put her children, and their father, before her own feelings. Sadly for her, this backfired, and then he took it upon himself to play god, because his little ego was bruised. I don't know of many 15 year Olds that make great decisions consistently, especially when they think they are "in love" with someone. She unfortunately, fell "in love" with the wrong someone. It would help if you understood how nuanced childhood development is, but I feel your overall point. Not all children who experience trauma will overcome and become level headed people. It does not excuse grown adults committing atrocities, I will never condone violence of this kind. But I’ve done too much research in to childhood psychology to not have an appreciation for how ones mind can be absolutely warped to the point that where they legitimately never learn right from wrong. At what point is it Understandable? Have you see the Trials Of Gabriel Hernandez on Netflix? If that poor young soul had grown up and become a murderous criminal, would you have had absolutely zero compassion or would you have no clue why he became what he became? Individual circumstances matter, we cannot all be lumped in to one view of what’s ok because no two people have the same psychological backgrounds. Just because you overcame trauma does not mean others can, so hold people responsible for actions while acknowledging life is much more nuanced than you’ve made it seem.

@Hurricaneintheroom3 жыл бұрын
It's not the court system failing another family. People are unpredictable. You can't do much with people out making bad decisions. It's sad that this man destroyed this family. That's his fault. Not the court systems.

I was a DV legal advocate/counselor for 12 years. During that time I was pretty hardened to terrible things. But this one got to me. Most of the worst victims of family violence are the bravest and strongest women and men. Yes men are victimized by their partners, too. I can’t believe that this woman survived. I’m so sorry her parents were caught in the middle. But, you know, as parents if their deaths somehow slowed him down & kept the kids alive, I think they would feel it was worth it. But still it is so sad.

Joint custody he beat the son with a broom. He should have never been able to be considered joint custody or see any of his children after that!
@NikkiC7773 жыл бұрын
If he had been jailed (for a little while/a couple months) after that beating, or after making all the threats against them and stalking her at the courthouse and her kids school (which is what he was doing) then none of this would have happened. That whole final incident of violence could have been avoided. Police and prosecutors never take things like that seriously enough and then lives are lost.
@catdooley46163 жыл бұрын
@@NikkiC777 Even if they had arrested him and convicted him, a couple of months in jail rarely if ever changes their mind and usually pisses them off. I believe the only way this would not have happened would have been if he was locked up for life or died.
