Hey Shok, appreciate the consistently great content. Would you say that at lower elos, champ mastery is ultimately more important than matchups, team comps, or even the strength of the champ? For example, Vex is one of the two champs that I have the most mastery with, and I've found that I'm much more able to consistently snowball and carry games with her than I am with champs like Viktor, Aurora, Galio who I have a bit of experience with and are 'better' picks. With those champs, I tend to do quite well in lane phase, but I find that in skirmishes and especially later teamfights, I just have to spend too much time thinking about what I should do and I often end up losing the game. Whereas with Vex, I have much more muscle memory and rarely will throw a game with bad teamfight execution. I'm sure you've talked about this before but I'm curious what your thoughts are.

Not shok but i agree on your take. It makes sense to stick to what you are comfortable playing if you want to gain lp in the short term but in my opinion learning to play meta picks like viktor makes your life so much easier in the long run to gain lp because some champs like viktor are straight up busted :D. I was in a similar situation like you. 1 year ago i was only playing vlad even when matchups were dogshit and was stuck in high diamond. I learned to play more meta champs and rn i have 75+ wr in diamond this season.

Yes definitely, champion mastery trumps pretty much anything else and on top of that in lower elos (or honestly just elos below master) you'll probably find that champions with easier to execute mechanics or gameplans will give you a lot more success

You recommended Malz as a low elo pick to me about a month ago, since then I’ve spammed it and this new season I’m like 56%wr, it is very weak before first item blackfire. While spamming swiftplay for mastery going seraph + roa on assasins. The way to not make them a shit build is to go: Doran > tear > 2 amp > staff > boots > roa > seraph. This way you get to 120 ap very early.

I would say Diana feels very strong if you go celerity + waterwalking + early boots. Very strong map influence and can snowball her team the boots upgrade

In my opinion malignance, cuz u definately getting more out if cuz of the ult CDR but you should also consoder balckfire its deals more damage in teamfights than luden and also malignance is not always a most buy it really depends on the team comp. I think luden rarely the best choice for her maybe if you hard wining the lane and get a lot of kills early and you start snowballing insanely hard and roaming it can be good to increase your solo dps and end early. Luden is only for thoose who cant realy buy else like lb vex etc. But the master @shok should know better 😅

Shok mentioned this on stream: Ludens seems like a bait item to him. It was the best AP mana choice in early 2024 but fell off after nerfs and made Blackfire and Malignance way better alternatives for certain mages. This is why you see those 2 items more often than Ludens on most AP mids these days.

Seems so strange that Yone is rated so high when he has such a bad winrate. I know winrate doesn't say the whole story but a 48% winrate in emerald+ and a sub 47% in diamond+ is just brutal. I don't see how the new changes have done anything but giga nerf him. Early skirmishing before he hits his power spikes is even more prevalent and out of all of the tier 3 boots beserkers are some of the worst. Ad junglers are better now than they have been for a while and overall most of the top tier midlaners either completely destroy him or have completely winnable odds. Aurora, lb, akali, ori absolutely dookie on you and while yes you can beat and outscale galio ahri akshan sylas but those champs completely outroam you early and have a lot of gank/ 2v2 set up. Idk I guess I wish there was a bit of a better explanation as to why the changes in season 15 make yone as strong as you suggest. Most of what I heard was that he has mixed damage and decent gank set up. I feel like you could remove 200 hp from the champ lvl 1 and those would still be true statements but obviously the champ would have a sub 40% winrate D tier. Also top 3 winrates in soloq for emerald+ are cassio top, cassio mid, and cassio bot lol.

Yone is basically always strong because he can neutralize just about any lane if played correctly between high movespeed and crazy sustain. His gank threat makes him difficult to punish as well, especially post 6. He scales insanely well and is extremely strong on the sidelane. Probably his biggest weakness is teamfighting before 2 items, which admittedly is a pretty big weakness, but he can just spend this time splitpushing since his 1v1 on bork is unmatched.

I think Naafiri could be higher. If Naafiri can never W onto someone with well-timed cc, then just run Comet and poke. If you can't kill your lane opponent, you can at least poke them down enough they have to concede priority unless they want to be ganked. They can either walk up and risk dying to a gank, or recall and give Naafiri a timer to roam.

Eh from my experience laning against Naafiri it's pretty hard to hit both parts of Q and I think you need to hit a few of those to really force someone out of lane. It possibly is underrated and could sneak a bit higher but she still has some pretty clear weaknesses, I do want to try her more tho

As a Sylas main I don't understand these conquerer runes everyone plays apparently. In my experience without electrocute you just make the lane too hard for yourself. If they have 3 tanks I can understand but even with 2 tanks I'd prefer electrocute to have pressure in lane.

Hmm I've tried morgana mid, I'd say she's a low B, if she had just a bit more damage on her W I think she could maybe be A. She just barely doesn't kill waves quickly enough which is annoying. Cho'gath is probably B most of the time, maybe A if you use him as a counterpick

Hi Shok, I am actually suprised that you put akshan int to hi-mid A tier, I actually think like its low A maybe last at the A tier. I feel like he is preatty easily counterable with most of the A tier mages and if he can be neutralized with like 99% of A tier champs, maybe I under rate that you can easily grab a few random kills and become really strong but i am not sure. I strongly disagree with ambessa A tier she is strong but i feel like picking her is too situational to be A tier and also she can be punished really hard, and she is also a popular top pick so for me ambessa is a high B tier. Akshan is more of a high-elo-skewed champ and MOST of those matchups in A-tier are skill matchups that're slightly favoured towards him. He's also one of those champs that can choose not to lane against hard counters (by constantly roaming and making impact somewhere else on the map) and still have a good chance at winning the game. Just watch how Phantasm, Davemon, Yamatodeath, etc, play him

@@star-lord2256 Constantly reseting E on minions or Champions using your Q is really important cause it makes it that you don´t have to waste more mana on E making you recover mana by killing stuff. Spacing is really important on malza after level 6 cause if you are able to reset 1 single E with Q and R you basicly use 3 E and can 100 to 0 people by spacing well and making them take W damage. Using abilities on certain order to always summons 3 Monsters with your W instead of 2 or 1 cause you get more value for the used mana. He´s not a difficult champion to play but he does have a lot of these small things that you can abuse but Shok is clearly not good enough to do so which is normal he doesn´t play him, but i´m playing on 500 LP EUW and have a 62% WR on him in 200+ games Also people are simply clueless on his correct runes, taking aery and inspiration when you sohuld be taking comet and precision makes a big difference too

Sorry but hard disagree with the Cassiopeia rating, one look at her stat's this patch have shown that she has clearly benefited in the new season, despite not being able to buy tier 3 boots.

I suspect her winrate is higher from a few things, 1. there are probably more cassio players taking ghost since TP was nerfed, I don't think this should really be viable in higher elo and into harder matchups but if you can get away with this in lower elos then she's gonna really benefit from that, 2. her winrate is always sitting around the 53% range anyway because of her being a onetrick/counterpick champ. It's still really difficult to play her mid because of the meta matchups, but as a counterpick can be good and she's much much better in top or bot (as a 1 trick)

Hey shok I have been feeding every game forever now because I allways lose my lane matchup no matter what I do I can't beat Zed or Syndrs especialy. It is mainly becausr I can't dodge skillshots and get harassed under tower or if I have priority I csn't harass the oponnent because I am scared of jungle so oponnent solo diffs me or gets kills from my jungle or gangs I will quit league as I don't improve

The problem with Lux is that anyone with mobility or hard engage just destroys her, and look at how many there are lol. Another thing I’ve found is that in solo Q, my enemy mid laner roams bot and gets kills but I can’t follow an Akali, Yone, Ekko, Liss, etc, if I do I’ll just get jumped EASILYYY when walking. Lux also sucks at skirmishing pre lvl 6 unless your jg has high early dmg

You're not entirely wrong but take it from a high elo Lux player, you need to play her like she's Darius early game. Once I learned that it changed the way I see her and I began to climb. She is a bully and you have to squeeze as much as you can out of her early game power. This will basically give you lane control for the whole early game so they won't really get as many chances to roam on you or jump on you because you should almost always be ahead early game.

Ok but you put over half of the classic mid roster in mediocre tier? Like I understand how important jungle just keeps becoming for some heinous reason. But I think there is some generosity with playing your classic mages. Stuff like Ryze, Cassiopeia maybe even Vladimir. These mages can thrive of early skirmishes and scale up well. Yeah they require an item to get going, but what midlaner doesn’t? Also I genuinely do not understand why everyone calls Aurora broken when she’s outranged and the most dependent on a lead. Yeah her AP ratios are high, but you only have 2 damage abilities aside from your ultimate, both of which you need to hit to proc your passive. It doesn’t make sense that anyone would let Aurora hit them for free, on top of her having as bad range as vlad.

Half of the classic mid roster is mediocre because the top tier champions are so overloaded and do so many things well that even champions that have specific niches are often overshadowed by the strongest champions that are good at almost everything. Most meta mages do not require an item to really get going, the laning phase is extremely important so if you start the game weak in 1v1 AND weak in skirmishes that's a big problem. Ryze, Cass and Vlad can all be good counterpicks, but to say they are on the same tier as the broken picks would just be incorrect. Aurora is broken because she autos wins 1v1 against just about any melee champ, and the ranged champs that beat her in lane have to be extremely careful of her gank setup which is some of the best in the entire game. A champ like Orianna annihilates Aurora in lane, but Orianna vs Aurora + Jarvan + Leona is absolutely miserable if the jungle support know what they are doing.
