I really love how they wrote Rayllum in this season. Their main weaknesses and strengths reflect each other, and I especially love how they support each other through… everything. In each moment between them, you can see the rift healing and how they are starting to trust and rely on each other. I definitely agree with your point about episode 4. It brings together the old and new characters, resolves some problems, creates others and helps us to understand to pressure and reality of the situation our characters are in. I loved the writing with Claudia’s group this season. There were moments where I thought Claudia was evil, but all in all, I sympathise with her and the rest of the group. There was so much pure pain and emotion.

I’m sorry but I really feel like it would be best if callum gets tortured by dark magic again like in season 2 as it will be fun watching him decide if it’s best to use dark magic to free rayla parents but with a cost of his own life. It will probably make rayllum a lot better as rayla will show her true feelings for callum when she tries to rescue him from dark magic. Also it will be nice if he and Aaravos have s nice little chat since he is the only magic that can kinds level with him.

Definitely an interesting season I was really surprised how it turned out which we all thought that aaravos would make his appearance, but also the twist of how viren dream world he was in made him relizes of what the dark magic lead to the consequences. I really even like how much of three story’s that went on in season 5 which zubeia being infected but eventually being cure in a way, the conflict with the sun fire elfs which we could see in S6 and team zym getting the pearl I didn’t expect that to happen though I’ll say I really like your talking points and with that interview you did definitely got many in the fandom hype and bringing in theory’s of what could happen in S6.

I agree with you, this season was amazing compared to the last one. I'd say it's my second favourite season (after season 3) I think your best point is the score; it's phenomenal and so fun to listen to. My personal favourite is Things are changing but the rest is also well done. Hopefully next season we get some more character development on Ezran and how it feels to be king so young. I just did a rewatch of S5 and I found myself enjoying it even more, I didn't skip any episodes at all. I definitely think the first time watching It I saw many flaws but I think that's only because I had worries after S4 so I guess I was searching for negatives instead of sitting down and trying to enjoy the show. There are definitely some moments that make me raise my eyebrow and cringe a little but overall the second time I really enjoyed it. Probably my 2nd or 3rd favourite season.

to be fair, I think the whole point of the 'poop joke' scene is like - these are all teens and young characters. Ezran is SUPPOSED to have moments of immaturity, being forced to grow up too fast is a tragedy (and a tragic aspect of war). As Soren spells, he should be and deserves to be a kid. Not JUST a mature king

I like Viren's dream sequence because I think it mirrors Callum's from the end of season 2. Callu while not in the same scale faced guilt because he used dark magic and was in a crossroad of a choice, choosing between dark magic aka the easy way or the way he dreams and wants, the primal magic aka the hard way. Callum in that moment chose the right path that led him to become the best version of himself and didn't have to face guilt like Viren. Meanwhile Viren who used dark magic for years now had to face his guilt which was a lot, and I mean a lot more than Callum's, before being able to reach that crossroad of a choice. And the best part is that like Callum he took the right choice this time, abandoning dark magic and the easy way that leads to more pain and accepted his final fate. Claudia right now is too far into the darkness to face that choice. Possibly one day, but not anytime soon.

You know, it's bizarre that the episode named after the character doesn't show the character all that much. Kinda like the character that the series is titled after is not given enough relevance and is only there as a pet. I think something much better would be that they put Zym back with Zubeia and let Domina Profundis help team out. Maybe they could ride her as ocean transport, but you know, she wasn't written in a way that would allow for that and that would require rewriting the entire season, which for me was rather boring, I only really cared about Zubeia and Viren and the others were like, "welp, let's see what happens." Season 4 was bad because it was badly written, while Season 5 was bad because it just didn't catch my attention very much.

Season 5 is by far my favourite season ( besides season 3 ofc ) !! I feel that the way the creators handled Rayllum’s relationship and with the transition between season 4 to season 5 , what I mean by this is that they didn’t rush it which I’m really happy with 😭👏 ! For me my favourite episode(s) is probably episode 4 ( i think they are at Lux Aurea ??? Correct me if I’m wrong but that’s my favourite part with Rayllum and the big showdown ! ) and I also loved episode 8 💀 cuz i love the fact that we got protective Callum !!! YES I'm glad you agree that this season was great! I was surprised to see that people didn't like this season and had negative reviews about it. While I agree with most of the flaws and negatives about this season I feel like those videos only focused on that and didn't take any of the positives into consideration, because to me the good things about this season FAR OUTWEIGHT the bad things about this season. Unlike season 4, season 5's flaws only felt minor and didn't take away from being able to enjoy the season; it was genuinely enjoyable. So I'm happy that you address the negatives but still consider this season as being great and enjoyed it just as much as I did :)

@@ReelJames expanding more on certain characters like Ezran, and taking Soren's character a bit more seriously, and making Zym feel like more of an important character - it is called *the dragon prince* after all and hes the dragon prince and at the moment he just feels like he's there and not much else. I know you said one thing, but also I was disappointed that the one bit in the first episode was all we got of Domina Profundus and we never saw her again. I wanted to see more of her, and possibly touch on some things that were mentioned in the short story about her and Zubeia. So I'd like to see more of her and just the archdragons in general because I feel like they should have a bit more importance. I have more I'd like, but that's the main ones I could think of rn :)

I hope that with this sense of solace and victory for the Dragang, what i really wanna see Ethari and Rayla reunite and reconcile. I hope that we get Ethari make massive, humongous apologies to Rayla, Callum confronting and condemning Ethari about what he did, expressing how angry and infuriated he is with himself every day for what he did, how enormously sorry he is to Rayla, some possible flashbacks with the moonfam due to Kim'dael pretty much coming back in S6. This is what I want more than anything I also want there to be some very gut-wrenching yet necessary conversations between Ethari and Rayla because it would give us an opportunity to discover what Ethari's been up to, how he's changed in the last two years, admitting to Rayla how he hasn't even forgiven himself since tgat day and how he's never stopped fighting to clear her name and effortlessly righting his wrong. Among other things. But more importantly, telling her how much he truly loves and misses her so dearly.

Everyday my opinion on season 5 changes, one day I think it’s alright. And the next day I think it’s really good. I’m still a bit conflicted on Rayllum, I don’t think it’s bad far from it but it felt like they are kinda just pretending season four didn’t happen. I feel like this season in general kinda tries to pretend season four never existed. Particularly with the sun fire elf plot. Don’t get me wrong, the sun fire elf plot here is a million times better then last seasons. But in the end, all the elves just join Karim which makes the sun fire elf plot from last season even worse then it already is. Also some plot lines never really end up anywhere such as the whole rallying up all the dragons. Of course, they will probably be useful later but for now they did nothing. There are some redeeming qualities such as Viren which is the most interesting character for me this season. I also love the more darker and more mature themes. Overall I’d say I liked it but I still think season 1-3 is better but that’s just my opinion.

I get the sense that Season 4 was and will continue to be the outlier season of The Dragon Prince, but I wouldn't say Season 5 ignored it, at least to me. They chose to allow Season 4 to be purely set-up for this saga, The Mystery of Aaravos. That's both good and bad, because now that we have Season 5, Season 4 does seem like an afterthought in comparison. I don't think *all* of the Sunfire elves joined Karim, I just think *a lot* of them joined Karim. Which, honestly, was bound to happen once Kim'dael exposed Janai. Where would Season 5 rank, for you?

Unless Zubeia getting infected and the effects of Callum using dark magic due to Finnegrin mean something in season 6, this season will go down. I like the sunfire elves plot more than last season. Viren’s dream sequences and the season 5 finale I loved with getting to know more about him. With Claudia and Terry, they put more fluffy moments of them together to hit hard that Claudia broke down crying with the loss of her leg in the last episode. I didn’t buy into it, since Terry was already her boyfriend when we first met him. Or there was some short story of them meeting and falling in love. But I love Terry and he deserves a nice girl, maybe not Claudia. Terry has been holding Claudia back from crossing the line. So if Terry leaves, there would be no one to tell Claudia to stop. Viren, who was catatonic and probably dead right now, unless Aaravos has a contingency plan? And the plot of Rayla with the coins dropped immediately as soon as she told Callum about it. The format of nine episodes with half an hour episodes is not enough. An hour is what it needs or more episodes. Season 5 feels like season 4 part 2. Soren’s story with his father and sister is just ripe with potential. And most of the time he uses his comedic side. So when he’s not being comedic, it’s a welcome addition and we get reminded that he’s not just a handsome goofball. Like him telling the heroes that they’re being digested and him telling Elmer not to do what Finnegrine says.

Time for some mini theories!!! The mushroom mage helps lux aurea become reclaimed and stops the corruption Aaravos will tell Claudia about the spell and Claudia will temporarily control her dad to get him to kill sir sparklepuff Maybe Claudia didn't fail - they needed to get Aaravos out but that could be interpreted in different ways. I felt that the dragang succeeding was what Aaravos wanted all along because it'll involve removing Aaravos from where he was, maybe being free in that sense. Claudia is very powerful and is a very useful pawn. Kim'Dael might be dealt with using the spell Callum casts to stop his blood from freezing Stella has something uo her sleeve - I'm watching her Callum is going to go through a tough time - he might try to not be involved in knowing the prison's location or anything that he thinks Aaravos can use but in the end he might have to use dark magic to get Rayla's family out of the coins and it allows Callum to get possessed even from a distance I believe king harrow is in pip The human kingdoms will be brought back into the food, especially the wise young queen aanya

A couple of suggestions: 1. If Callum gets the girl, why not Ezran or Zym? Maybe Soren? Who would be their love interests? 💘 2. Aaravos was a dragon 🐉 at the beginning, but was turned into an elf 🧝‍♂ in an attempt to weaken him. He regains his full dragon form, only to be defeated 😞 by Callum at the end. 3. Once Aaravos is released, he sends out a dark army and begins his conquest by taking over the Human Kingdoms. 🏰 4. Season 7, the series ends Lion King-esque 🦁 👑 with a now adult Zym married to his own queen and high mage 🧙‍♂ Callum holding out the newborn Dragon Prince 🐉 👑

Season 5 is probably my favorite season to date. Even more than season 3. But I also believe that season 4 is now better, because of season 5. The creators told us that it was a setup season, and now that we have what they were setting up for, I’m starting to actually like season 4! But, back to season 5… I never thought there was a dull moment in any of the episodes, and I don’t think I ever though “wow, this episode feels like filler..” Wonderstorm and everyone working on TDP absolutely outdid themselves. The storyline, the darker aspects of this season, the animation and lighting, the voice acting.. I could go on! It was all amazingly well done. Another thing I was very happy about was the sunfire plot this time. It was actually pretty interesting! I won’t lie, in season 4 I really, really hated it. But this season, how they brought in Sol Regim, Kim’dael, and even just the small amount of wedding planning for Janai and Amaya. But the thing I think was the best this season, has to be Rayllum. Callum was definitely the highlight of this season for me. Back in season 4, I understand why he reacted how he did. But I am glad that he noticed what he was doing was wrong. That yes, he was angry. He still is! She left him, but she’s back. They don’t flat out ignore each other, but they aren’t back to how they were yet either. You could say.. it’s an old wound, and it’s healing. ❤️‍🩹 And lastly, I just want to talk about how outstanding episode 4 and 8 were. Definitely my top two this season. Episode 4 was throwing my emotions around like a football- especially the flashback, Callums determination to free Raylas parents from the coins, the quotes “I would do anything for you.” and “I waited too long.. I hope you know-“ “I know.”… THEY HAD ME IN TEARS THIS EPISODE- then they fooled us into thinking they killed Amaya and Corvus.. god that was evil. Then episode 8. Phew, what an episode! Probably my favorite after the finale of season 3 and episode 4 of season 3. Finnegrin was such a awful, psychotic, evil bastard. But that makes him an amazing villain. The way he tortured Callum and Rayla were so heartbreaking.. Callum getting absolutely beat up, evidenced by his face.. and Raylas blood being frozen, followed by Finnegrin figuring out how much Rayla means to Callum, and using that against him by feeding her to the sea serpent. It’s both heartbreaking and heartwarming that Callum used dark magic, yet again, to save Rayla. Yes, it’s going to come back to haunt him later. By haunt I mean Aaravos messing Callum up, especially now that the dragang has both Aaravos’s prison and they Key of Aaravos.. but Callum using dark magic, for the second time? The last time he did it was to save Rayla as well. He flat out refuses to use dark magic ever. He would rather get tortured! But, he cares so deeply about his friends that he would, quite literally, in Raylas case, do ANYTHING for her. And then, also in episode 8, Soren and Elmer were outstanding. I love how Soren stood up him, knowing how it felt.. Anyways- I think I have to cut myself off there LOL. Going to finish watching what you have to say now, James!

My theory is that after Terry informs Viren about Claudia’s situation, Viren will kill Sir Sparklepuff and turn to dark magic for revenge. Since Pharos - the Sun mage is already Aravos’s pawn (kind of), the both teams (Viren, Claudia, Terry & Karim , Miyana, Pharos) will join forces against Janai and Callum ‘ team Still don’t know what will happen to Zubeia or whether Sol Regem will approve of Karim’s plan and help him free Aravos I also guess it won’t be easy to kill off Aravos when he comes out of his prison so the good team will try to obtain the magical sword ( forgot its name) and probably try to free Aditi, since Aravos said she was “swallowed” not “killed”

I'm hovering between season 3 and season 5, I can't choose which one is better! There are definitely more cons for season t, but it also has such high highs that it kind of balances out with season 3. Silk gear, can't wait for season 6! (Also the other glow toad is jellybug)

I agree that it is a very great season and I was more emotional in it than any season but I still think season 3 is done a little better especially since Ezran was more important and Claudia was still redeemable-since it’s now mystery of Aaravos I think that means Zym is no longer important for the story and I get why and the season 3 finale is still my favorite episode. Season 5 reminds me of season 2 and is the second best rayllum season and was just great

Season five is just an amazing experience. We get to dive deeper into the lour of Aaravos' imprisonment and we got captivating new characters (e.g Kim'dael, Finnegrin and Akiyu). I was on the edge of my seat the entire time! I think Rayla and Callum's relationship was handled very well with the stargazing and the great bookery and Callum even doing dark magic again to save her. In season six I would love to see Rayla revisit Ethari in the Silvergrove so she can tell him that Runnan and her parents are alive. I'm very interested about how season six will go because we always knew season five was going to be a race to the prison but I have no idea what might happen next season. Maybe Claudia goes even further into madness upon realizing she failed to save Viren, maybe Team Zym decide that to keep Xadia safe they need to neutrilize Claudia permanently by killing her. I really have no idea but I am so excited for season six. Sorry for the long comment and loved the video James! P.s Is anyone else wondering what book seven will be called or is it just me because after season six there aren't any other primal magics (Not including Dark Magic)

23:30 I was disappointed at the lack of Domina Profundis, the archdragon of the ocean, too. In fact, it's one of the only things about season 5 I was disappointed about. So, a few days ago, I came out with an idea of how I made I have her appear again in the season. When she saw Callum's lightning bolt, she rushed over to the sea legs, saw the dragang in danger and in the clutches of her old enemy, scolds him for his defiance and behaviour, had a fight with him while giving a reason you suck speech before killing him off. Then, she accompanies the heroes with other ocean dragons and tidebound elves to the sea of the castout, and she, and the ocean dragons and tibebound elves help against Claudia with their ocean abilities, with some wounds from the dark mage. Shortly after they get Aaravos' prison, Domina held it in one of her paws and remarked that the arch mage will not be escaping anytime soon. A remark that might be proven wrong in season 6. What do you think?

Season 5 is one of my absolute favorite seasons tied with season 3. Amazing storylines, phenomenal fighting scenes, beautiful and meaningful dialouge, and heartwarming emotional development, specifically Callum, Rayla, Janai and Viren, even with Zubeia. Rayllum really shined this season. Seeing them rebuilding their trust, foundation, hope, and understanding shows the maturity and growth in their relationship. The psychological traumas were off the chain this season such as with Janai. Betrayal by her brother Karim, her general Mayana, and still grieving the aftermath of her sister's death. Some of my negatives were the lack of Domina Profundis who i felt should've been more present with the Dragang. Not having more of Aaravos. Not having any wholesome moments with Rayla and her family such as flashbacks/ backstory with the moonfam, which has been something I've been waiting for since S1. But i believe they will on this on S6 because the writers mentioned that the coins will be a major plotline in future seasons, which will be in S6 and S7. But overall, I adored and loved this season so much. Can't wait for what's coming next. Keep up the amazing work James. ❤🎉

oh crap, maybe callum won't be the one to free aaravos but zym if aaravos is supposed to be prometheus that created the humans in greek mythology and stole ephestus' fire to see in the dark, cook the food and warm the cold, but also made weapons to hunt all animals and do war avizandum is supposed to be zeus who punished prometheus for disrupting the natural balance by giving humans forbidden knowledge to unnaturally change the world zym is hercules who released him to get knowledge of the location of the garden of golden apples of discord since zubeia is becoming a zombie and if mukho can't save her, maybe zym will reluctantly release aaravos if he bargains his freedom to cure her

As much as I want more Soren, I always want more Soren, he's not relegated to the side that much. His moments are things that are more subtle, like him trying to remind Ezran to be a kid sometimes (it was in the form of a poop joke, but yeah that was the underlying tone there) or being the first to act to jump into the water to save one of the baitlings. Or moments that you have to be tuned into Soren particularly as a character to understand on more than just the surface level. I feel like you miss that because you're more tuned into other character's wavelengths, which isn't a bad thing. It's just different tastes and things. Soren's moment with Elmer was one of the most impactful moments of the season. Its Soren voicing what we've all seen from Viren towards his son, but showing it from his own angle finally. It's showing a little bit of what Soren grappled with in his thoughts, because we don't see that much. Soren may be the butt of the joke sometimes and he is the go to for lightening up the show in my opinion, but he had plenty of moments where they treated him like the reliable character he is for the gang and mainly King Ezran. I do agree that the new side characters weren't used as much as I'd like, but at the least there was reasons within the story that they fizzled, like Finnegrin and Leviathan or Domina literally not wanting to deal with anyone at all, because of her issues with Zubeia and others. I also wish we spent more time in Scumport. It was so cool in the short story and I wish we met up with Redfeather again because I want to see her see that Rayla has a place to belong. That was really my only minor complaint with the season.

I am so sick of seeing videos saying that this season sucked or was ok at best. Somebody even said that this season was less coherent than Season 4. Somebody else said that this season marked the end of hope for this show. These statements couldn’t be any less accurate. Glad to finally see a review that is far more sensual than those others. Season 5 had its problems, but it was a vast improvement over season 4 and has set up some big stakes for season 6. That is the season where all this build-up should finally begin to pay off. We also can’t ignore that there were some big plot conveniences in the first 3 seasons as well.

Just for contrast I watched this video and then watched another of my favorite KZbinrs THORIAS UNLIMITED. From what I can gather Thor has been a fan of Dragon Prince for some time who is losing his interest at the direction that the show is going in. He's almost at 50k subs and given his obvious talent I wish him the best of luck as well as James here. It takes guts to put your opinions down on camera, me I just do game play videos for now but I may start doing reviews too we will see. One step at a time.
