In partnership with the National Marine Sanctuary Foundation, Seasons and the Sea virtual ceremony celebrates the sunset cultural observance that occurs only once a year. The Hawaiian celebration symbolizes the transition from Ho‘oilo (wet season) to Kauwela (hot or warm-dry season) as the sun sets into the crown of Pu‘u o Kapolei. Seasons and the Sea was held privately on the Aquarium grounds, led by cultural advisor Sam ‘Ohukani‘ohia Gon III.The ceremony explains the observance of the seasonal change, the links between our lives, and our responsibility and respect for the ocean world.
